the brand names are ajinomoto and trader joe's. the ajinomoto fried rice was also exported to 🇨🇦canada🇨🇦, although as of when I (rune) started typing this, a canadian recall has not been announced. they probably will though. it has glass in it.

this is a class 1 recall, the highest severity with the most relative danger. eating this recalled frozen chicken fried rice is considered to have a reasonable probability of serious adverse health consequences or death. because of the glass

four people choose to protect others by reporting glass in their rice, which led to the recall. "no confirmed reports of injury due to the consumption of this product" which might mean there are reports of people who ate glass or got injured in another way, but may not have actually sought medical attention for it, or any possible medical attention was not categorized and reported correctly. who knows.

only some lots and some specific packages of these products are being recalled. best by dates extend into november 2026.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The Trader Joe’s item was shipped to Trader Joe’s retail locations nationwide. The Ajinomoto item was exported only to Canada.

The problem was discovered after the establishment notified FSIS that it received four consumer complaints regarding glass found in product. There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.

four people reported glass. there may have been injury reports that were not from eating the glass or were inadequate to include for some reason. the glass may have pierced through the bag that injured someone during handling, for example.

FSIS is concerned that some product may be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

the good news is, since this is a glass issue, you probably do not have to worry about sanitizing your freezer.

but uh, you might want to to worry about the rice itself, because getting sepsis from eating glass is a really nasty way to die. anything that can slice up your insides on the way down or on the way out is a bad time. and nothing in this recall actually says what the glass is specifically from, so it might also be dirty.

Republicans and their influencers keep calling the SAVE Act a "voter ID law". They use polls exclusively on "voter ID" to claim it's popular. Voter ID is a popular common sense voting policy that requires a state ID to vote. It's already a thing. No one has a problem with that.

The SAVE Act, however, is NOT a "voter ID" requirement. They know if they spelled it out no one would support it.

During Kamala's campaign when she was seemingly doing well with women due to the reproductive rights platform issue, men on the right were going all in on "we need to repeal the 19th amendment"

And here's one of the earliest bills proposed. As usual, they're throwing immigrants under the bus to get it done. They're claiming millions of undocumented immigrants vote in national elections when it's illegal and a lie (when challenged on the matter, a pundit once claimed 77 undocumented immigrants voted in the last ten years. This is the best they can do). They're using that lie to justify disenfranchising 70 million women and anyone who can't afford a passport, pretty much.

It costs money to replace an ID, get a copy of your birth certificate and obviously to buy a passport.

This is a poll tax.

I know I haven't posted regularly on this blog in years but I'm not seeing a whole lot of posts on this site about what's happening in Minneapolis right now. And the posts I am seeing are not covering the scope of it. I'm genuinely surprised because tumblr is usually where I find out about things organically through my feed. So I'm making a post about it.

A brief summary of events, from someone who pays attention and also lives here, best taken with a grain of salt and some fact checking:

2020: George Floyd is murdered by Minneapolis police. There are weeks of protests about it. It makes national news. Protests happen in DC. The infamous Trump and his bible photo shoot happens.

2024: Gov. Tim Walz is Kamala Harris' running mate in the presidential election. He starts the "they're just weird" thing. Is folksy, Trump personally hates him.

November 2025: ICE starts showing up to "crack down" on "illegal immigrants" in our Somali community. I may remember the numbers wrong, but something like 90% of our Somali neighbors are either naturalized or were born here. People distribute ICE whistles and are on high alert. Localized to the twin cities.

December 2025: Nick Shirley is paid by a bunch of MN Republicans to do an exposé on daycare fraud. I didn't hear much about this. All I really know is this was an ongoing investigation that MN officials were already taking care of and some of the guilty parties have already gone to court from a COVID era food assistance program. Mostly, if not all, legal US citizens. He did a really bad job at doing journalism and just showed up to day cares with a camera crew and went "YUP nobody's here" as if they weren't in lock-down procedure because some fuck ass white men showed up with camera equipment that could easily be mistaken for guns. I believe. I will fact check all of this and will correct myself in a reblog if necessary. (source but not all the details that I remember hearing about but they said there was no recorded evidence of fraud)

Conservative internet explodes. Kristi Noem sends a mess of agents. I know it's more than a thousand more. They call it Operation Metro Surge. They are going everywhere. There are protests. People try to interrupt the arrests. It's a lot.

1/7/2026: Renee Nicole Good is shot by an ICE agent in the middle of a protest. A few blocks away from where George Floyd was killed. Broad daylight. In front of a crowd. While she was following instructions to turn her vehicle around. Jonathan Ross, the piece of shit Nazi who did it, was recording on his phone the whole time, switched his phone to his non dominant hand so he could more effectively shoot her in the face from 2 feet away. Claims self defense, several angles immediately disprove him. He releases his video, he calls her a "fucking bitch" as her corpse drives away. Does not help him at all. (source) He has not been seen since. Some photos/reports exist of a bunch of agents showing up to his house and taking some tubs and art away. His wife is an immigrant. (source but it's the daily mail so grain of salt.)

Not hours later they go raid a school and tear gas a bunch of kids. (source). Minneapolis has switched to distance learning. I'm not sure about St. Paul.

The last week: There are up to 3,000 ICE agents here. Keep in mind Minneapolis and St. Paul only have 600 or fewer police officers each. So these dudes are roaming in packs. It's 2-4 dudes to a car and 2-5 cars per pack. People are "commuting with" ICE agents to honk and alert people that they're there. People are going on patrols with their neighbors.

ICE is no longer asking "are you a citizen." They are simply walking up to you and taking you into custody. They are going door to door. They have started just breaking the door down if you don't comply. They are driving recklessly to just grab pedestrians and drivers alike (source). People are afraid to go get groceries. It's all over the state. I am learning names of cities in places I thought were just factory farm land and I've lived here my whole life because they're doing raids there. I had to text my family in the suburbs because I saw reports of my small little hometown an hour away getting door knocks today.

It's insane and I am not doing it justice. There are thousands of masked federal agents roaming around all of Minnesota with no warrant or specific goal. They are just trolling around looking for people. They are detaining anyone and everyone. They are beating people. They are pepper spraying people. They are kidnapping people. They are acting unconstitutionally, aggressively, and unpredictably. They are creating situations that are dangerous so that they can try to justify beating or shooting their way out. I will run an errand and then get fed a tiktok that was shot from the Cub Foods that I just left and there's 20+ ICE vehicles parked there now. They're taking people from work, from day care, from schools, from shopping centers.

And from today.

They have cut off SNAP and WIC benefits. Just for us. Not any other state, just Minnesota. They're saying it's because of fraud but I think it's because they hate that we use federal funds to give free breakfast and lunch to every public school student.

And this is breaking just now, 1/13/2026: the DOJ is trying to investigate Renee Good's widow. 4 people have resigned about it. (source). I don't even want to read the article to see what they're saying.

So that's a brief history.

Unicorn Riot is doing a lot of good reporting and they don't seem to have the spin that a lot of local news stations will have where they downplay everything. This article specifically goes into a lot of the specific instances of brutality.

It's also a rumor on TikTok that all of the videos of ICE and protests and the such and the like are being geo locked. So my feed is all footage of people being detained and talking about the "commuting" they're doing and what they're seeing but people outside of the state are not seeing it. So if you're also on that infernal app, try searching for Minneapolis or Minnesota and see what you see. I'm kind of curious if this is true. Because I've been living and breathing ICE and doomsday prepping content for a week. I'm sure those two topics aren't connected.

I don't really know what my goal with this post is. I'm tired. I'm in the first ring of suburbs, so it's been pretty quiet. But I have friends in south Minneapolis. And I'm worried for them. And I know it's a matter of time before my quiet pocket is affected. Because they're coming door to door.

Pay attention to Minnesota, I think an example is being made of us.

Update- Minnesota republicans are taking this opportunity to try to impeach Govt Waltz, who has already declared that he will not seek re-election in November because of Republican death threats against him and his family. Because of the "fraud". But actually because Waltz is speaking very plainly about what is happening here.

St Paul has gone to partial virtual learning for anyone who doesn't feel safe sending their kids to school.

Every school I know now has safety patrols.

The school districts are not mincing words about the clear and present threat. Everyone in the area is completely clear that we are under violent occupation.

Most of the white people ICE grab, are released within days, because ICE can't even keep track of who was grabbed by who over what. However, they are still subjected to beatings, gassing, having their home and car windows smashes, etc.

Local police are advising compliance with the blatant human rights violations and total lack of due process, because they are cowards.

Even conservative Minnesotans are balking at the total lack of due process and open violence against unresisting people for doing things like taking videos. I know a guy who was in his house recording ICE, and they smashed his home window, dragged him out over the broken glass, beat him while screaming slurs, smashed his phone, and detained for three days.

We need your help to spread the truth about what is going on. Find the videos and share them on any platform you have. Make noise about what's happening. Get your "don't tread on me" relatives whipped up about it if you can.

We need republicans to be afraid, otherwise ICE plans to be here for half a year attacking us.

If human rights can be revoked because Trump doesn't like your state, then they aren't rights anymore, they are favors dispensed by your king.

And the people who are detained (illegally, ICE does not have the authority to arrest citizens or legal residents), when they are released are being dropped in random places, usually without proper winter clothing and without means of contacting friends or family to pick them up. It is do bitterly cold in MN tight now that being left outside without help is a death sentence.

Fortunately, our communities are doing their part to pick people up and get them home. But it’s bad. It’s fascist fear-mongering, it’s oppression, it’s cruel.

I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

As some of you may have seen on the news, our city has been occupied by federal ICE agents for many weeks now; estimates hover around 3,000+ ICE agents. Agents have been waging a 24/7 campaign of terror against Minnesota communities, with a major emphasis on Minneapolis. They have committed mass abductions of our BIPOC and immigrant neighbors; they have subjected women and trans community members to gender-based violence; they have murdered two Minneapolis residents. They have detained children as young as 2 years old. Toddlers. They used a 5-year-old child as bait to lure his family from his home to be detained.

Whatever you think it's like in Minnesota right now from wherever you live, it's worse. It's far worse than you're imagining.

On January 7, ICE agents murdered Renee Nicole Good, 37, a queer woman, poet, mother, and wife. They shot her 4 times as she tried to drive away from them. They refused offers from observers to provide her medical care. As she lay dying, a male ICE agent called her a f-cking b-tch.

Today, on January 24, they murdered Alex Jeffrey Pretti, an intensive care unit nurse. Several agents - at least 7 - beat Alex repeatedly in the head, tear gassed him, restrained him, and repeatedly shot him at point blank range. Before they murdered him, Alex had stepped in to help a woman whom the agents pushed to the ground.

The Immigration Act of 1924 had an overall negative impact on the economy and foreign relations with Asia, but Hitler praised it.

ICE didn't exist until 2003

Illegal immigration is not actually classified as a crime. If it was, cases would be handled by the judicial branch, and defendants would receive the benefits of due process. But because it isn't, it is handled by the executive branch, and defendants do not get due process. That means no lawyers, no jury, and no real judge.

Immigration "court" processes about 30 people at a time, including children, and the "judges," who are not required to have any experience or education in law, face no consequences for wrongful deportation, they are only evaluated based on how many people they process.

Before 2025 there were an estimated 20,000 wrongful deportations, with many confirmed and several reported on in mainstream media. That number skyrocketed in 2025.

There were more deaths in ICE concentration camps in 2025 than any year prior. If nothing is done about it, that number will increase in 2026.

hey if this storm ends up being as it looks, you need to take it seriously, particularly if you're in a southern state and not used to storms like this. i'm not a professional but my new england experience for losing power/etc is:

fill your bathtub with water before the power goes out. in an emergency where the pipes freeze, you'll have semi-clean water. you can use this water for your pets, to wash dishes, flush your toilet, and other small important stuff. if you have no bathtub, fill as large a bin/pot/etc as you can find.

air is the best insulator. if you can tape plastic over your windows and major drafts, it will genuinely help. (they have kits for it, but i've used trash bags and duct tape). blankets/tarps/etc also work. leave space between the covering and the window - the layer of air protects you. shove towels under your doors.

in a true emergency, you can ball up newspapers and shove them into your coats/pants/etc between your base layer and your coat. it won't be comfortable but it does insulate a little better.

have an emergency plan for your pets, particularly animals like reptiles that need constant heat to survive.

the weight of the snow and ice will be an issue. plan accordingly.

black ice is a bitch. if it looks "wet", assume it is frozen. actually just assume everything is frozen for a little while.

if you do not have a generator or other emergency power source, DO NOT bring outside-use heat sources (like propane stoves) inside. you can gas yourself and die.

instead, if you truly have no heat source: focus on insulating a small amount of space in your house - a few rooms - and bring as many bodies and supplies in there as possible. do not break insulation if you can avoid it. you are a ~100-degree object. make your safe space into a blanket fort. you may go stircrazy but it is better than freezing.

if you have a fireplace you never use, check the flue and the chimney before the storm holy shit. i am not kidding about this. do not just start a fire willy nilly. you will burn your house down.

relatedly, if you start a fire and notice smoke is billowing back into the house: stop the fire immediately. your flue is closed or your chimney is backed up. you will burn your house down.

keep the fridge closed as long as possible; it lets the air out. but honestly like, my family has used snow as a fridge a lot. stuff that needs to stay cool will be less of an issue than things that need to get warm. plan accordingly.

most canned things can be eaten cold, but check the label. if you have a little sterno fire, it can go a long way.

if you develop a headache and feel weirdly sleepy, you may be forced to open a window. you might have carbon monoxide poisoning.

every year people die while shoveling snow. it is actually not very safe as a chore tbh. you need to go slow and take lots of breaks. you should also 100% wait until the snow has actually passed, only because when it starts shifting and undoes all your work, it will piss you the hell off.

have drinking water somewhere easily accessible. a lot more of it than you think completely necessary tbh.

fill your gas tank. it will help prevent your lines from freezing.

if you have a battery-powered light that's not very strong, put it under a water jug, it'll throw more light. idk why it works but it works.

just because you know how to drive in the snow doesn't mean other people know how to drive in the snow. better to just not.

your device probably has a "low power mode". probably best to just keep it on asap rather than be taken by surprise tbh. the battery will last longer.

great news to fanfiction writers: it really is better if y'all take one bed and huddle together for warmth. do not strip out of your clothes, though, i have no idea who the hell decided that was the smart thing to do. you want to keep at least a layer of leggings and a tight shirt on. the goal is to find the fine line between "warm" and "sweating" - you want to stay as dry as possible for as long as possible.

your hair, eyelashes, and nosehairs can freeze. just from personal experience: try not to rub or touch them, it can snap your hair off and then you'll be very sad.

hypothermia is a lot faster and more evil than most people expect. watch for shivering, confusion, and unexplained exhaustion. if someone stops shivering, that is not always a good sign. if you think you/someone you love has hypothermia, warm them up slowly. often this is through rubbing/friction (or a heat source if available). keep them awake and try to feed them something.

same for frostbite: don't just shove your hands into a fire. warm any affected area slowly. fair warning, as the blood recirculates, it will hurt :(

those blue rubber examination gloves under other gloves can help even very-cold hands stay warm.

liquor is not a good idea to drink right now, sorry beloved. but vodka/rubbing alcohol does work as an excellent de-icer if you need something small done quickly (like a lock/door handle). it's just, like, expensive in comparison to other things lol

"i don't eat that much anyway i'll be fine" that's the devil talking. you will not be. you will also probably be burning way more calories than normal. let the soft animal of your body eat a bunch of delicious snacks.

Also DRIP YOUR FAUCETS. This helps reduce the risk of your pipes freezing; frozen pipes won't give you any water when you need it but they also can expand and crack or even burst, leading to very very pricey repairs.

It doesn't need to be a lot, a thin steady stream, just enough to get water flow through your pipes. The most at-risk pipes are the ones on the exterior of the house so look for faucets on or near exterior walls. If you're dripping the faucet for your bathroom sink, also drip the shower and/or tub faucet because they can absolutely freeze separately and that sucks a lot.

That ice is much heavier than it looks and these are the trees whose branches are going to break under that weight, potentially falling on roads, homes, cars, and people. 1. Everyone donates Kraft Mac and Cheese in the box. They can rarely use it because it needs milk and butter which is hard to get from regular food banks.

Since the holiday toy drive post is circulating again, I figured this would also be helpful! Food insecurity is such a massive problem in America, in general, and if you have the means to help feed others, I think you should take that opportunity. Here are some other tips:

1. If you’re planning on donating items from your own pantry, please check the expiration dates on the packaging. Think of your donations as gifts to bestow, not castoffs to be rid of. It’s awful to think of people feeling like they got scraps someone else just didn’t want. Everyone deserves dignity with their meals.

2. If you’d rather give money to a food bank, that’s also great since they buy food in bulk and know what items are most wanted/needed!

3. Not everyone has access to appliances like stoves or microwaves or hot plates so if you can donate items that don’t need to be heated up, that would also be greatly appreciated!

Every food bank worker/ donations collector I’ve ever spoken to on this is unanimous. Watch any of the big names discussing food assistance in the US and the workers are out in droves in the comments begging for donations of funds so they can buy up the glut of produce harvest happening now instead of getting a bunch of cans or prepackaged foods that aren’t the best use of the cash and won’t result in nearly as much food for the people in need.

When you give stuff, the volunteers have to work significantly more to physically move it around, find storage for unpredictable objects, sort it. Money is virtual and easy for them to manage and HOLDS VALUE if they happen to run out of space. Money doesn’t make them turn away an offered corporate donation of fresh milk because they have no room left.

When you give money, they can buy TEN TO TWENTY TIMES AS MUCH FOOD and/or hygiene products and/or whatever their particular bank needs that wasn’t donated as a physical good, e.g. by a business by the palletload. They have access to pricing that makes Costco look like Erewhon.

If you just happen to have a ton of food you maybe found you had an allergy to, or you stocked up on pads before getting a ute yeet, or someone in your family had a ton of unopened packages of diapers before the kid spontaneously potty-trained overnight, great, that’s a wonderful donation. But do not go out and buy food for the food pantry - give them the money.

Trust the people who do this work to know what is most needed and how best to get it to as many people as possible with the best nutritional profile.

I've found a big hurdle to getting people to understand lily toxicity in cats is that people have NO clue what plants are true lilies and what are not. many plants are called lilies or resemble lilies but may not have the same toxicity as true lilies.

These are all true lilies, Lilium family members and can cause renal failure in cats. Easter lilies, asiatic lilies, oriental lilies, color lilies, etc. These are common as seasonal pot plants and in bouqets. They are often forced for Easter/spring and sold in large quanties around then. They tend to grow on a tall stalk with thin, blade-like leaves that go up the whole stalk.

Also toxic are daylilies (Hemerocalis) which are not a common pot plants and not as likely to be an issue for indoor cats. These resemble a grassy mound and bloom in summer.

Peace lilies are NOT a true lily. They do have calcium oxalates in the leaves which can cause vomiting but are not toxic
