What I learned not to do in art school
B'Elanna sketch
I wanna talk briefly about Leeron, Gurren Lagann, and manlines.
It’s easy for people to write off Leeron as an offensive stereotype of gay men, and they wouldn’t be wrong. He’s a walking stereotype and one of his purposes in the show is to serve as comic relief. I definitely wouldn’t argue that he’s great gay representation or anything. However I think there’s more to it than that.
Manliness is obviously a major theme in Gurren Lagann, and it values it very highly. However the manliness of Gurren Lagann isn’t strictly tied to traditional ideas of masculinity. Manliness in Gurren Lagann is defined by the determination to achieve your goals and putting in the work to achieve those goals no matter what, or how they simply refer to it in the show, fighting spirit. And fighting spirit isn’t something that’s only exemplified only in the masculine men of the show.
Yoko, one of the main characters of the show, and a woman, also displays plenty of fighting spirit throughout the show. Her fitting into the show’s definition of manliness is treated as an unquestionably good thing. Similarly, even though Leeron’s flamboyant nature is often used by the show for comedy, he’s still displayed as having plenty of fighting spirit. Even if he’s in a support role as the team’s engineer and scientist, not fighting on the front lines himself, he’s still constantly risking his life by being on the battlefield. He’s one of the most important members of Team Dai Gurren, and everyone on the team respects and trusts him completely.
In Gurren Lagann, what matters is determination and hard work, and Leeron exemplifies that just as much as anyone else in the show.
HOW AM I JUST NOW LEARNING that there's a 90s cartoon about a crossdressing vigilante hunting down zombies who looks like THIS:
with the goons in question being led by a little kid who uses 'YOU FOOLS' in every other sentence named JOSE VON REICHTER.
JOSE
VON
GODDAMN
REICHTER
who looks like THIS:
AND the animation of FLIPPIN' Trigger!?
Was ANYONE going to tell me??
dont put the name of the show in the post or anything helpeful tho
Doing some digging and it's called Cybersix, based on an Argentinian comic book but created in English, never fully aired in the US and I think was censored there, but all 13 eps were shown in Canada. It's apparently on Hulu atm but I have no idea in what form
HTH :D
the entire show is up for free on TMS' youtube channel
CYBERSIX (EP01 - 13) Von Reichter is a professor who works on experiments in South America, creating the Cyber Series, artificial humanoids
Also it was not animated by Trigger. Trigger didn't exist yet. It was animated by TMS who famously did the animation for several early 90s cartoons like Animaniacs and Batman the Animated Series. As well as local anime like Lupin the third, Dr. Stone, and Fruits Basket. They also work in Collaboration shows like Cybersix and the 1990s Moomin show.
Studio Trigger was formed in 2011 by former Gainax studio members.
Also yes, this show WILL give you Gender envy
Loved watching this as a kid, but I rarely was allowed to stay up late enough when it was on XD
This is my favourite part!
Gotta add this to my never ending list of animated stuff i need to watch

Who's in charge?

I used to see this image all the time in December but now literally nobody cares. We as a society have forgotten him. All he wanted was to offer us a nice treat and what did we do? We abandoned him. Hell has taken refuge in our hearts and its fires have burned to ash all warmth and love. We should be ashamed.
Everyone look at the cat blanket I made like .. 3 years ago
Btw don't believe any Etsy ad or things trying to sell this pattern to you. It's been free since the 90s. It's very simple, just double crochet and color changes. Be sure to weave in ends as you go unlike me
MY MOM JUST MADE THIS PATTERN EVERYONE LOOK
YOU CAN DO IT IN SO MANY COLORS

"historically people had servants" incorrect. historically people WERE servants, and many of us still are.
this might sound like a ridiculous, tone-deaf, and even grotesque and disgusting request from the US government following their attack on Beirut, but please bear in mind the broader geopolitical ramifications of this. If this kind of technology were to fall into the hands of russia, china, or iran, they could reverse-engineer it and learn how to build bombs that cost as much as a bachelors degree while failing to go off.

Note how as the zombie continually chases the villager, both the villager and the zombie are in pain - the zombie, like Tantalus, eternally hungers for that which he cannot possess, while the villager in turn must flee forever lest the zombie consume her. Either figure could grant the other solace and end their own eternal torment, but both believe that the other's will shall fail earlier, and so they continue the torment forever. This is the nature of hell, and you know it already
