everyone talks about how strong and great Aragorn was for refusing the ring when Frodo offered it to him as if this man has not spent his entire life dodging leadership and responsibilities like bullets in the matrix 🙄

Every so often I think of how the LOTR movies managed to cast a guy as Aragorn who is simultaneously yes, very masculine, very action-hero-y, and also someone who as a woman I would one hundred percent feel safe being alone with in any situation. Not one cynical, alpha male, smirky, appeal-to-the-jerkbros-in-the-audience fibre in his body. Just thinking about Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn makes me feel a little calmer. Absolutely outstanding.

I think for a lot of people “I am completely helpless and powerless” and “I am completely powerful and in control” are both basically comforting fantasies because most of us live our lives in an in between place where we have enough agency to be responsible for our actions but not enough agency to have true control over our lives and the tension between power and powerlessness in the day to day is psychologically wearing and exhausting

child whumpee who was consistently punished for crying. their tears and their sobs were punished, over and over.

now, they can't cry. physical blows hurt, but they prefer those to attending a funeral. to being yelled at. to being called emotionless, heartless, mean.

no matter how much they hurt on the inside, like a bruise with a weight pressed upon it— they can't cry. their tears were drained out of them as they were slapped for tearing up— and consequently causing tears to slip down their face. clamping their hands on their mouth to prevent the sobs from slipping out.

and it hurts. it hurts, but they can't even cry— so does it really? they think to themself. maybe it doesn't hurt. maybe they lied.

maybe all this time, they've just been lying. to themself and to others, as whumpee liked to say.

I have been picking away at these for 2 days and I'm still struggling with shapes/consistency

Also when being bred in captivity(this is done at my work and my job is to teach people about it) to get them to reproduce from the polyp stage of life, we have to intentionally cause them enough stress to reproduce but not enough to harm them. Lately we’ve done that by cleaning their habitat extra well, makes them think the word is ending

Someone at an old job asked why I wanted to write up the meeting minutes for our team and I said 'i wanna control the narrative' and they were like 'what' and I pointed out that no one was gonna remember what we said in six months and so my interpretation of the meeting would dictate the assumed reality of what happened
