Writeblr Intro

It's about damn time I made one of these, so here goes.

I'm Ryn, but I also use about a few dozen other names (and will steal yours if I like it). I'm trying to actually post more writing on here (seriously, I promise), but I also use this blog for rambling and the occasional art.

My stuff's mostly sci-fi fantasy with a lot of horror, even more trauma, and lots of poorly (or not at all) disguised trans and nd themes. All my characters are freaks, queer, and traumatized and I will ramble about them if you ask.

Also I love gore and body horror, so be warned.

Current WIPs

Nameless:

Yue is a former child soldier and living weapon who's been shunted a few centuries down the timeline and dragged along into overthrowing an extremely racist colonial empire.

This one's pretty standard fantasy and I have put so much worldbuilding into it. I've had this WIP in some form since I was like, 11, but I am continuously unsatisfied with it, so it has been rebooted so many times and is currently in stasis.

Atomic Number 51 (placeholder title):

I don't even know how to describe this in a comprehensible way. Basically it's a kinda urban fantasy horror setting, mostly gothic horror, with witches and werefolk and the like. All the magic in this world—referred to as the Other—is super fucked up and actively corrupts its users.

The main characters are Violet, a trans witch, and her girlfriend Antimony, a werewolf (and also the placeholder name cause I couldn't think of anything better to use). Neither knows that the other is not just a regular human at the beginning of the story, leading to drama and trauma. The story also features, Sadie, another trans witch who is Violet's best friend from childhood and also a kinda psychopathic magic crime boss who exists to makes things worse for everyone involved.

This WIP is basically my excuse to write super self-indulgent body horror and queers doing crimes.

Those are the two WIPs that I'm really actively working on; all my other stuff is either pretty small, or abandoned.

imagine if you will, a fairly dry survival crafting game in which you live in a bunker and must periodically venture out to scavenge food, set up turrets for attacking monsters, etc

now, your computer inside the bunker has a game-inside-a-game on it which is a charming farming sim of undeniably greater quality and scope than the survival game you're playing. therefore, the object of the game becomes to keep your bunker secure so you can play the farming game more.

now, once you achieve the highest rating in the farming game, a secret shop inside it unlocks, and one of the novelty items you can purchase is a game console, giving you access to games-inside-a-game-inside-a-game. most of the games for it are typical mobile shovelware, but one of them is a highly polished, extremely brutal precision platformer with amazing level design and production values exceeding that of the survival game and farming sim combined.

it is only at this point that the purpose of this entire contrivance becomes clear: to create the most deranged speedrun community the world has ever seen.

I have made a substack account. I do not know what I am doing, but I am highly considering creating an author substack to go out monthly or something.

I am trying to get better at marketing my books without burning myself out and I feel like this is the real world equivalent of banging my pots and pans on here. 😂

So I've got this friend whose nervous because she's trans and dating this guy who she hasn't told yet because they've only been on a two dates. For this story let's call the friend Jane and the guy she was dating Jason. Happy ending don't worry.

So I tell Jane to bring her boy over to a bbq I'm having and she can tell him she's trans at my place surrounded by queer and trans people who love her and will support her if he ends up being awful.

She waits till the end of the bbq to tell him the news, by which point the rest of us have learned that Jason is a kind, friendly, empathetic, hard working, dummy. So we sit down, all of us a little worried about this gym bro's reaction when she tells him she's trans, and that she understands if he doesn't want to keep dating her it's no big deal.

He's baffled, so we explain what trans is, and after the disclosure that she hasn't had bottom surgery yet...

"Oh you have a dick?"

"... yeah."

He look's around at the room full of people with baited breath, his clearly a little afraid girl friend says

"Oooohhhh! I get it! You think- don't worry Babe! Watch this!"

And ya'll this man jumps up, runs into the kitchen and returns with one of the bratwurst we had for grilling and proceeds to tilt his head back, put it down his throat, hold it in his mouth for a moment, and spit it up without even a whisper of a gag and then looks around at the group absolutely beaming with pride.

My mans saw his worried girlfriend and her support network and thought to him self "Oh they don't think I can't please my girl, but I'll show them!"

Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?

My favorite quirk of American English is that since we're constantly exaggerating, sometimes it's more intense to say something slightly less intense. Because like, it means you actually thought about it.

"you look great!" - normal. Anyone could say this. Could be true or could just be lying to be nice. Very normal expected thing to say to someone

"you look good." - gay as hell thing to say to someone.
