Guh ngl im a bit anxious sending this but i wanna talk to someone who i know has experience in topics like this

So I’ve been in fandom spaces for quite a while and have recently-ish been informed of proshipping. Personally I don’t identify with the label because there’s a lot of things that Proshippers support that makes me extremely uncomfortable, but I am 100% not antiship. I know that people can and will do whatever they want in fiction and I’m not going to try and make them stop just because I don’t like it. I have Proshippers on my personal dni though because as stated previously, I’m uncomfortable with a lot of things they support.

does this make me hypocritical? Or would it mean I fit into the label of proshipping? I’m just deeply confused and want to understand the actual meaning of Proship better.

by definition, you are proship. but whether or not you will use the label is entirely up to you.

while people who are proship can certainly enjoy taboo contents (within the realm of fiction where no person or animal in real life is harmed), proship does not mean "dark or problematic things".

the main core value of proship is: "harassment is bad. censorship is bad and a fascist tool. I may find the things you like disgusting, but instead of shaming/harassing you, instead of resorting to censorship, I will mind my own internet experience by blocking/muting or scrolling past what I don't want to see and let you do whatever you want to do, as long as you're not harming any person or animal in real life."

a lot of people who are proship have things they are uncomfortable with. a lot of people who are proship have things that disgust them. but they choose to mind their own business. they don't harass other people for enjoying the fictional things they think are disgusting. they understand censorship does not stop at "those things they personally find disgusting".

if you don't harass other people, especially over fiction, if you understand why censorship is bad and a fascist tool — then by definition, you're proship, because that is a proship stance. but whether or not you will use the label is entirely up to you.

I need more dumb hockey nicknames in hr fanfic obviously it’s easier if they all use their last names because it’s easier for readers to keep track of the npcs buuut the creativity these dumb men have with their nicknames is so fun! the teams are made up of 17 year old boys and 38 year old grumps. they’re men!! and they’re silly and dumb
