Byler nation, I am officially logging off of tumblr and Ao3 until I finish vol 1 for the sake of spoilers. It’s been a pleasure to theorize with yall, and I can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen this season. Godspeed to us all, and I’ll see you on the other side 🫡.
my current hyperfixations btw
Love my little gay boys. Also, if Byler turns out as tragic as newtmas, I’m gonna crash out. Let my little boys live!!
(also, I really want to try writing a newtmas fic because I’ve written a lot of stuff, but never for them. Soooo, if you have some suggestions lmk)
(or Byler. That works too 😂)

I believe that they are real, but I’m just so confused. Someone please tell me where we got this.
Zomtober Day 7&8, October 30th and 31st: Haunted House and Halloween
well, here I am five days after Halloween, finally getting this out 😂. Promise I wasn’t just being a slacker, I had some crazy stuff going on. But I finally got this done, and I hope you like it. This event was super fun, and if you love zombies half as much as I do, then I hope you have liked these.
happy halloween! 🎃
Ray wasn’t sure what a “Haunted House” was. I mean, he could imagine what it was. A house that was haunted. But according to Zed and Addison, it was something different.
It started with their October visit to Seabrook, when Victor asked why there were pumpkins and spooky decorations on homes.
“Oh, it's for Halloween.” Addison said simply with a smile. When they all gave her a confused look, her jaw dropped in surprise.
“You guys don’t have Halloween?” she asked, sounding appalled. Vargas slowly answered.
“Do you mean, Hallows Eve?” he asked slowly. When everyone but VIctor and Vera gave him weird looks, he continued.
“It’s like, the holiday for the fall. It's a big festival with treats, and dancing, and all that. Lasts like a week. The last night of it we call Hallow's eve, because it is considered the eve before winter begins.” he said simply. Victor and Vera nodded, like this was perfectly normal.
“Weird. We have the harvest festival, at the beginning of November to celebrate the fruit of the season, before we go into winter. But what's halloween?” she asked in confusion.
Ray nodded equally confused. Harvest time held memories of childhood, and eating candied bloodfruit with Nova while spices and golden sunsets glowed around them.
What was Halloween?
This discovery led Addison into a very long tangent about what halloween was. Its history, its connotations. Everything from costumes, to trick or treating, to ghosts and horror movies. It was a holiday for the harvest, and the supernatural.
Great. Just great for someone who perpetually hated being scared.
It was only when they got back to the house, that Addison suggested the idea of a haunted house.
“Addison.” Vargas said slowly.
“What exactly is a haunted house?” he asked with amusement. She lit up, and began to explain enthusiastically.
“It’s basically a really creepy looking house, where you go and walk through, and a bunch of things happen to make you scared. Like actors in creepy outfits, or things falling on you. Stuff like that.” she said with a smile. Ray gave her a look.
“So you’re telling me… that you pay money to go to a house… and get scared… on purpose?” he said slowly. Nova snorted, and Victor laughed slightly while Vargas gave him an amused smile and Vera rolled her eyes.
“Getting scared is part of the fun of Halloween.” Addison said cheerfully. Ray grumbled and Vargas laughed again, walking over and slinging his arm around him.
“Come on, nothing bad will happen to you. Not while I’m here.” he said with a wink. Ray’s cheeks went pink, and he reluctantly agreed.
Terrible Idea.
This made Addison super excited. In fact, probably too excited. She had decided that she was in charge of dressing everyone. Which turned out about how you might expect.
Nova and Victor, ended up in formal wear, with Nova in a blue dress and victor in a suit looking outfit. Addison said that they were characters from a show called “The Vampire Diaries” and that the characters “matched their vibe perfectly.”
Whatever that meant.
Ray ended up in what appeared to be a sailor outfit, because his hair apparently gave “Conan Gray Vibes.”
She pulled these costumes out of her basement, swearing to god.
Vargas was dressed in some bloody outfit she said was “From a horror movie.” and Vera was in a white corset and blue skirt that Addison said was a character called “The corpse bride.”
He had missed that movie night. But Vera seemed very pleased with it, despite the fact she was painted blue, and he wasn’t one to argue with a woman in a veil.
All in all, they didn’t look half bad. Not a single one of them. They were all silly, but Addison said that was the whole point.
She herself, who had forced Zed to do Harley Quinn and the Joker, (Suicide squad was in fact another movie they had seen together.) gathered them together as they headed to a haunted house.
“It’s perfect, and it's the only reason we were ever allowed in zombietown.” she explained. Zed smiled and nodded.
“Yep. If there is one thing Zombies do right, it's Halloween.” he said. Ray smiled, the notion of their town having a specific thing just for them made him happy.
Even if he was fairly certain he was about to make the biggest mistake of his life.
Ray sighed, as all his friends enthusiastically entered the tall ominous building in front of them. It appeared to be some sort of abandoned mansion, with tall frontings and windows boarded shut. There were cheap lights hanging from the house, and lights and ominous noises blared from the inside.
Just how he wanted to spend his afternoon.
Vargas paused on the threshold, seeming to notice the hesitancy from ray, who stood a few paces behind.
He walked back down the steps, and stopped next to him bumping his shoulder lightly with his own.
“Come on, stick with me.” he said with that same stupid smile that made his heart race.
“It’ll be fun.”
Ray sighed, and looked back up at the tall looming building. Then, he took a step up the wooden boards, smiling clown friend in tow.
“Let’s get this over with then,”
Vargas smiled, and then grabbed his arm, practically dragging him inside.
Oh great. This should be good.
—--//—--
It was not in fact, good.
Easily, top ten things he wishes he never did. Just top ten though.
He spent virtually the whole time running around the place, while various things popped out at them, or various people with axes or knives. The place was built more like a maze, intentionally hard to escape.
He and Vargas ended up in a room, hands on their knees as they panted from the running. After a few minutes, Vargas started laughing, like he had just seen the funniest thing ever.
“Oh, now you’re laughing? What’s so funny?” he said, straightening while slightly out of breath, and running a hand through his curls. Vargas tracked the movement, swallowing thickly.
“I don’t even know, probably just adrenaline. Or that look on your face.” Vargas said, pointing a finger at him with a slight huff for a laugh.
Ray brought a hand to his chest and gave a small laugh.
“Oh my face? You should have seen your face. And heard your scream. Seriously I thought Nova was there with how high pitched that was.” he said with a small laugh. Vargas rolled his eyes, straightening and swatting his arm.
“Okay, we get it funny guy.” he said, sounding slightly annoyed, but a smile was creeping onto his face.
Ray laughed more, and the atmosphere for a haunted house got significantly… warmer.
He suddenly felt the proximity of him very acutely, and it made his throat feel dry. He cleared it, and glanced around.
“We should uh, probably look for a way out yeah?” he asked, fidgeting with the edge of the shirt he was wearing. Vargas smiled, and nodded slowly.
“Yeah. yeah a way out.” he said, as if reiterating it would get him out of a daze. Then he smiled again, and grabbed his hand with a wink as he led him out.
“I like being here with you.” Vargas said, the flirty tone unmistakable. And although that made ray nearly choke on his own tongue, some advice nova had given to him earlier popped into his head.
“The best way to deal with flirty vampires is to flirt back in a way that they don’t expect.”
And so, he lifted the hand that was intertwined with his own and kissed the back of it softly.
“I like being here with you too.” he said with a smile.
And even though they were in the dark, with actors waiting to jump out and scare them at any turn, was it worth it to see vargas face flush and his mouth open like a fish?
Yeah. yeah it was.
—---//—---
Nova laughed, as she and VIctor perched themselves on an abandoned roof.
“How much longer until they find out we payed the actors to keep them in there longer?” Nova said with a giggle. Victor smiled, and laughed with her.
“I give them maybe another 15 minutes. 20, if Ray does that thing with his eyes that distracts Vargas from the world.” Victor said with a laugh. She shook her head fondly, gazing at the streets below.
“Gosh, they are so oblivious. Its almost painful to watch.” she said with a sigh. Victor raised an eyebrow, and nudged her shoulder.
“Reminds me of someone else.” he said with a laugh. She looked offended.
“We were not THAT bad.” she said defensively. He snorted.
“Love, it got so bad between us that Vera threatened to lock me in a closet with you. Multiple times. And Ray threatened to throw himself off a roof. We were definitely that bad.” he said with a fond look and a laugh, as he brushed her hair off her shoulder. She sighed, and looked at him with that twinkly look.
“Maybe. But at least we figured it out.” she said with a soft smile. He gave her one in return, kissing her forehead.
“Yeah. We did.”
She sighed, looking down at the streets full of costume clad children.
“You know,” she said, looking back at him.
“It’s no Hallow’s eve, or harvest festival. But I'm glad we spent halloween with Zed and Addison. Its nice to see different kinds of cultures. I know that's what you always wanted to do.” she said with a smile. He smiled back, slinging an arm around her shoulders, which were covered by his suit jacket.
“I did always want to. And it was even better, because I got to do it with you.” he said with a cheesy smile. She rolled her eyes, and kissed him, a smile playing between their lips.
When she pulled back, she lay against his shoulder as they came closer together, gazing at the stars. And yeah. Everything wasn't perfect, but it was pretty damn good.
“Happy Halloween Victor.”
“Happy Halloween Nova.”

Zomtober Day 5&6, October 28th and 29th: Campfire and The Witching Hour
same story as the last one, I know it’s not October but I still wanted to post it. And yes, I combined the last four days into two days to make it easier for myself. Enjoy!
If there was one thing that Vampires were good at telling, it was scary stories.
When Addison and Zed originally told them that scary stories were told at campfires, the trio of vampires had shared sneaky glances with one another.
That had started it. Soon, they were all taking turns telling stories of horror, murder, and mystery while daywalkers watched in horror or fascination. Vargas and Victor told them like a professional, complete with acting and suspenseful jumps that made several people shriek. Even other vampires.
Vera told them mystically, sitting on the bench with a sort of quiet creepiness that made everyone tense, and jump when a branch snapped. It was possibly, the most fun they had in a while.
Victor was in the middle of telling a story that he had read from an old book of his aunts, about a group of vampires that used to drink blood, sneaking through woods to pick off other vampires and daywalkers alike. (After a summer and year spent around each other, the blood drinking had become more of a playful inside joke than anything.
Nova and Ray sat beside each other, leaned forward tensly as Victor continued in a dark voice.
“You wouldn’t even know they were coming, until you felt the whisper of their breath on your neck…” he said quietly, glancing around. Everyone inhaled shakily.
“Boo.”
Nova and Ray both yelped, falling off the camp bench, as someone whispered between them.
Vargas, who had quietly came to stand behind them and whisper for dramatic effect, fell to the floor laughing, and was quickly joined by Victor. Everyone else paused for a moment, before joining the boys in laughter.
Victor chuckled, plopping down next to Nova and kissing her cheek as she scowled at him.
“That wasn’t very nice.” she said, but she was smiling. He shrugged and smiled, slinging an arm over shoulder.
“Yeah, but it was hilarious.” he said. Ray scoffed, as Vargas layed down in his lap smiling up at him smugly.
“Yeah sure, just don’t be surprised if there is a snake in your pillow tonight.” Ray grumbled. Vargas laughed, kissing Ray’s palm.
“Aw, you know you love me.” he said with a wink. Ray was still grumbling, but his cheeks were pink, and even Nova had started to laugh a little.
“Alright Alright, settle down.” Vera said with a roll of her eyes, gesturing for everyone to be quiet as she settled into her place. The campers quieted, waiting for her to began what was sure to be a terrifying and amazing story.
“I’m here to tell you, about the Witching hour.” she said ominously, glancing around the young faces of the campers. A young daywalker girl looked at her in confusion.
“But aren’t Daywalkers descended from Witches?” she asked, her eyes wide. Vera gave her a look, and she shrunk back into her seat.
“Technically yes, they are.” Vera said, looking back out at the rest of them.
“But I’m not talking about real witches. Im talking about the Witching hour.” Everyone looked on in wonder, as Vera continued.
“The Witching hour, is a supernatural time frame, as old as the night itself. Original legends say, that between the hours of three and four am, the spirits of everyone passed on linger in the night.”
Everyone was hooked, listening intently as the coals of the fire dimly illuminated her face.
“All the spirits that have died in these woods, or vengeful poltergeists that follow you, are awake and alive at this time. They can contact you, or latch themselves to you, or even harm you. Your only defence, is sleep. After all, you can’t fight a ghost.” she said quietly. One of the smaller vampire girls tugged on her sleeve, her eyes wide in fear.
“What happens if you don’t sleep?” she asked nervously. Vera smiled, running a hand over the young girls back.
“Possibly nothing. Maybe the ghosts will leave you alone. But legend says, that they might not, and the only way to be careful enough is to be asleep. And at a camp like this, you never know what spirits lurk in the shadows…” she trailed off ominously.
Then, all of a sudden, Zed appeared behind the younger kids, and yelled out
“AH!”
They all screamed, and scrambled to their feet. Upon seeing zed, they all collapsed in relief as the older kids and teens laughed.
“Alright campers, I think thats enough nightmare fuel for one night.” Willa said, leading the kids up. Addison laughed, nodding and prodding the glowing coals of the campfire one last time.
“I agree, we need to make sure you guys are in bed. After all, you don’t want the ghosts to getcha!” she said playfully. All of the kids eyes widened, running to their cabins as addison and zed followed laughing.
Eliza chuckled, coming to stand next to Vera as they packed up the s’mores.
“The Witching hour. Clever.” she said with a smile. Vera shrugged, a small smile on her face.
“My mom used to tell me and the boys that story at sleepovers so we would actually go to sleep. Figured I’d condition these kids a bit.”
Victor laughed, and came over to stand by them with one arm slung around Nova’s shoulders.
“Nice on V. No more late night outings for them.” he said with a laugh. She raised an eyebrow.
“Yeah, that goes for the two of you as well. Please try to be inside at a reasonable hour. Don’t want you to get possessed!” Eliza called after them. Nova giggled as Victor led her away, calling a quick, “We will!”
Eliza sighed, seeing that Ray and Vargas had already disappeared, as Vera headed to their cabin.
“Ghosts.” she muttered with a laugh, walking away.
“Ridiculous.”
But that night, even as our favorite lovers flew under the stars, and the kids slept soundly in their beds, the spirits of many would start to linger as the clock hit three.
Heed the stories. They are all based in truth.
Zomtober Day 4, October 27th: Sun/Moon
yeah, October is over. I debate actually posting these, because probably no one is reading them in the first place… but whatever. It’s for me anyway! Enjoy!
Zed and Addison, had a very special relationship with the Sun and the moon.
I mean, didn't everyone? The Sun was where they spent their happy days, dancing and singing and going on dates. It was happy, and light, and contained memories. That’s what made it special.
Then, there was the Moon. It had a different kind of memory attached to it. It was for nights spent counting stars, it was where they had met for her first ever zombie block party.
They danced under the moonlight, and hugged after late football games. The night was for quiet intimate moments that only they knew. Nothing compared to that, not for them.
For Wyatt and Eliza, the sun and the moon were a very different thing.
In the day, they were all quiet affections . Shared glances at school, subtle inside jokes, and secret glances that nobody but them needed. The day was for subtlety, and the quiet assurance that they were THERE, even if it wasn’t loud enough for everyone to hear.
Nights were different. Nights were when they got to run wild, and be who they were without the judgement of the world around them. They got to live among the woods where Wyatt showed her the places he grew up, or for when Eliza snuck him around dark buildings where she played as a child
Night was time to be wild and crazy, and who they truly were. Nothing compared.
For Nova and Victor, the sun and moon were representations of who they were.
Being a Vampire and a Daywalker, they never had any encounter with the other. It was new territory for them both.
The daytime was spent, with Nova showing Victor the joys she had lived in her life. Days in sprinklers and sunny picnics, or festivals of fire and light. It was when she got to see Victor laugh while covered in gold glitter, eyes sparkling with the discovery of something new.
She knew he had spent his whole life wanting to explore new things, and he knew how happy showing him her life made her. He would do it a thousand more times for her smile.
The Nighttime and the moon were a different thing for them. It was for time spent sprinting through fields, and showing her constellations while she stared in awe. It was about flying for the first time, and seeing stars reflected in Nova's eyes.
It was a miraculous thing to show her something that was so integral to who he was, and to use it to show her a kind of people she had never known. The Nighttime was for them and only them.
For Ray and Vargas, the Sun and moon were a little different than one might expect. Because while they had a certain aesthetic, their personalities reflected the opposite.
For the first time, Vargas got to see an amount of sun and happy celebration that satisfied the adrenaline rush he had chased since he was little. It made him almost giddy to be among people who valued energy and lightness more than anything, and his boyfriend loved nothing more than to look on the scene fondly.
In the beginning, Ray had been skeptical of the nighttime. But he had since come to really appreciate the cool and relaxed beauty of the dark time. Vargas had been absolutely content to see Ray unwind in the safe cover of the night with him. They had been able to exist in a more relaxed way, that got Ray to stop feeling the overwhelming pressure of his normal life.
The Sun and Moon meant something different for everyone. They held different memories, and represented so much more than we can say. But at the end of the day, we are all connected by them. By the solar flares, that fuel old stories and light up the expanse of our sky.
Ao3 is down… GUYS, WHY IS AO3 DOWN? What’s going on. Oh no, I was going to post things, and I had plans to read things, and I-
