Well and truly absurd humans are space orcs proposal - human and earth life in general are some of the only beings in the universe that can't perceive math. Every other race doesn't have math or numbers because that would be like if we had to invent an unbelievable complicated system to describe the state of experiencing visible light or sound. Everyone everywhere except humans has got a "math organ" and numbers are tangible physical things that can be measured, except measurements are completely foreign to everyone because those are described by numbers which are simply a sense we lack and had to create for ourselves.

Im imagining that if aliens have a math organ, surely there are some aliens who’s math organ had had an issue. Perhaps they learned that when the math organ is sick, it can be removed to save the individual, but then that individual is considered severely disabled by their kind.

Then they meet humans and we are all disabled this way, but we learned ways to still sense the math. To still measure it and find it. Like learning sign language or something.

Suddenly, math teachers become one of the most sought after disability educators in the universe. Planets open math schools for the children born unable to sense the math like we have for the blind and deaf.

Aliens start to view our education system that fails kids who struggle with math as a subject to be grossly negligent because “what do you mean you gave up because your teacher let you fall behind when you didn’t understand something? That would be like refusing you a wheelchair when it became obvious you struggled to walk.”

Then we would get to explain the American Healthcare System

Made this post about 15 minutes after the repair guy who fixed the pump on my dishwasher packed up his tools and left, as the dishwasher was whirring along doing my dishes from that morning.

I think people forget that Stratt amnesticized Grace with the goal that Ilyukina and Yao would be there to help him, y’know NOT DIE, and then THEY DIED before he woke up.

So like she gets the recordings and realizes Yao and Ilyukina are dead before he wakes up so he’s got no pilot, no engineer, and no memories.

And then you also have to remember that the EXISTENCE of these recordings and the fact they were accompanied by the Taumoeba means that an amnesticized Grace somehow managed to save earth without a pilot or engineer and shoddy memory that only vaguely gives him enough to work with as he works.
