that wave of peace you feel after you finally throw up when you're feeling sick is one of the few experiences you can really call transcendental, but you wouldn't know it from the get because of how tedious and painful the process of getting there is. a month ago I pulled my car over while driving home in the middle of a foggy night after an hour of enduring migraine-induced photosensitivity and just tumbled out of the driver's side to projectile vomit. it had rained not that long ago so the road was glittery and moist while that fresh earthy scent hung in the air. the relief from post-sickness release makes everything so bizarrely euphoric. the cool night breeze felt good against my face, and the fog smudged the street lights and dimly lit farmer's fields around me into what looked like a haze of pale colors suspended within a thick, infinite darkness. it was 2am on a thursday and there was nobody but me around-nobody but me for miles, even. i was covered in puke but all i could do was just sit on the gravel shoulder by where i parked my car and think 'this is what jesus felt like while being crucified'.
