Anyone else celebrating Pride after a conservative upbringing and religious trauma? For me, Pride is about overcoming so much shame and anxiety about being myself. I drew this last year as a reminder that queer love has had good fruit in my life, and in the lives of others!

It's interesting to see the contrast between Arnold taking care of Tua, which he does with no expectations of anything in return and Tua very much likes it vs. Jack trying to take care of Dean, which he does in such a condescending and controlling way and Dean very much asks him not to.

I also found it very telling that Jack finally decided to get back together with Dean when something came up in Dean's life that he could "rescue" him from.

I am dreading Jack's holier-than-thou reaction to Dean almost kissing Arnold while drugged against his will.

"Dean should have struggled more after saying "no" to the pill"

"Dean was more likely to do something like this because of his past as a host and his readiness to do fan service"

This kind of rhetoric is victim blaming and semi-abusive towards sex workers. While I know Dean never sold sex, the series makes it clear that much of society will judge regardless if they see your actions as unacceptable and/or too sensual in nature. Dean's hosting and his acceptance of fan-service content is close enough for many to judge more harshly.

If this situation had happened to Tua, would he be judged in the same way by his peers (and the audience)? No, because Tua is "pure" in comparison to Dean, and therefore his agency being taken away from him would be seen as an "assault" rather than a "consequence".

And what's super sad is that I'm sure Dean is already blaming himself. As many people do when they've been drugged and don't understand their actions. And I don't know if anyone will be on his side to help him when it all comes out.

I don’t usually post about acquisitions from the NYC Trans Archives, but this one is too cool not to share. We recently obtained 1 of the 2 known remaining copies of the censored 1933 German booklet “Wie erlange ich eine vollendete Büste?” (“How do I achieve a perfect bust?”). It advertises an early estrogen compound using a patient who was assigned male at birth.

The text shows that not only were hormones readily available to trans people in the 1930s, but actively advertised to them. Nazis targeted this specific book in the 1930s, leaving only a few copies left in existence. This text, along with hundreds of other rare trans books, zines, and ephemera, will be available for viewing next year when NYCTA opens to the public.
