yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
anyway what’s the best book you’ve ever read and yes if you say some YA shit i will kill a hostage.
i do think what gets ignored about carrie as a character is that she’s an incredibly easy target to bully; she’s a chubby, sheltered acne ridden teenage girl who wears frumpy grandma clothes and regurgitates the jesus freak shit her violently abusive mother tells her. she has violent thoughts about her classmates and is uncomfortable to be around. she’s far more interesting being a victim that’s somewhat uncomfortable to be in the head of than a tragic waif. she’s not a martyr, she’s a child and a child who’s been victimised her whole life shouldn’t have to be kind and angelic to be recognised as a victim. suffering teenage girls shouldn’t just be presented on screen as toned down glamorous thin ophelias, suffering teenage girls can be fat and poor and think violently. i do think we need to examine why culturally we need teenage girls to be beautiful and kind to valorise their suffering and treat it as bad
im going to create and enjoy a new life by force
i have been listening to ennarias manifesto like crazy so im bouncing on the mental walls
I’m reading this book about the changing arctic and the author stayed with the Nunamiut people of inland alaska for a while and talked to this high school kid who was like “ugh I hate going to school in the spring I wish I was hunting caribou” and I thought that was charming. you often hear about people who are devoted to preserving their traditional culture and knowledge but it’s rare to hear about someone who’s invested in the old ways out of pure teenage selfishness. school is lame and hunting caribou is awesome
idk how to say this but i think the disgust around eccentric experimental art (especially in fashion) has directly contributed to the publics perception of "pretentious freak" artists and the rise of ai-art acceptance.
to be clear i like experimental/modern art so i always see comments hating on it. some of the critiques are valid. but a lot of the time its 'whats the point? *explanation* thats lame/unimportant' ie the Aids fan. so i do think that unwillingness to engage in non-traditional creative expression is part of y so many people dont care/encourage about ai. i think these people fundamentally hate humans and misunderstand all technology.
ik the "realism is a part of fascism" is popular on here but i dont think people have accepted modern art enough to truly understand the vastness of it.
i need to get some good quality kitchen shoes but they are all fuuuglly what mental illness is it where i genuinely will not wear clothes i think r ugly like at all
Please remember that almost everyone around you is traumatized. I didn’t understand this when I was younger. I wondered why people acted so strangely and irrationally. Maybe all children wonder this. The author Robert Anton Wilson said (paraphrasing), “We have never seen a completely sane adult human.” No one makes it out of this life alive. It’s not their fault. Mercy, kindness, forgiving — these are what makes one human. They are other names for love. People break in the strangest of ways.
“Under the present brutal and primitive conditions on this planet, every person you meet should be regarded as one of the walking wounded. we have never seen a man or woman not slightly deranged by either anxiety or grief. we have never seen a totally sane human being." — Robert Anton Wilson
and you know what? i am REALLY sick of these ads that are openly mocking people for being concerned about the products they’re selling.
Amazon’s super bowl ad where the Alexa mocks Chris Hemsworth for being worried about giving spy software control over his entire life. Waymo’s ad with the intro “the robots are coming!” mocking people who are rightfully extremely concerned about sharing the road with, or riding in, self-driving cars.
i don’t know, it’s just genuinely insane to me. “Oh, you have legitimate concerns about our shitty product? sounds like you’re just lame!!!” like what kind of “quiet part out loud” marketing is that?
idk y i only try to paint when i have so much fun doing lineart and hate coloring lmao
edit forgot i am literally trying to learn how to paint
Aang saying that it’s time to let go and forgive himself and then peacefully free falling thousands of feet through the air like he’s accepting the end, only for Katara to catch him in a tender loving embrace as a transition from what was his past and what is his future, because from the very moment they met there was meaning in their suffering because they met. And their love was, is and will forever be the revolution of the series. Because Katara offered Aang belonging in a world he wasn’t from when he had nothing, and with her he will never truly be alone
Apolitically killing bandits and savages in my video game with no messages
asked the skyrim bandits why they were living in a cave and they explained the war effort has buried the economy so they can't find work and lost their homes. I use my shout to blast them across the cave and find a preeeetty nice sword among their belongings
Hi this reminds me of the skyrim quest I always think about constantly.
It happens during the whole vampire questline. It's not related to vampires. I may misremember details so forgive me for that. But you have to go through old dwemer ruins and you meet the last living snow elf in Skyrim. You know, the snow elves. Who were enslaved by the dwemer and went blind and feral and still live in the ruins long after the dwemer are gone. The falmer is what they're called now. Here's the last one who's in their original form.
And oh hey, to get to where you need to go you have to take a path that's an old snow elf coming of age rite of passage. And he's going to take you through it and you're going to learn about this dead culture, this culture that was killed.
And now you've got what you came for and there's one way out. Now that you've learned what the falmer used to be, where they came from, what was lost because of the dwemer enslaving them, you have to go through a falmer village.
It's a narrow canyon lined with huts. There's no way to avoid it, in order to get through you have to kill them. They attack you because that's what they do to people invading their territory. You're invading their village. You have to kill them or they'll kill you. It's the only way out. You feel terrible.
If you stop to loot one of the huts on your way out you'll find a book full of unreadable text. Take it to the winterhold college and give it to the librarian and he'll tell you that it's a remarkable find because it's evidence that falmer have retained intelligence. They're not just mindless feral monsters. They have this book, they've kept this book even though they can't see. They have a culture. Maybe they still remember what happened to them. Maybe that's why they're so mad.
You just killed so many of them. You're going to have to kill many more.
Anyway.

On the opposite end of things, I once played World of Warcraft with an elderly lady who refused to complete quests if it required killing animals. I mean, mad respect, but it was also really funny.
Dear gods, whatever you do, don't go look at the Subnautica 2 Steam forums right now.
It's a game about a dying world with its ecosystem in active collapse, where your colony ship, initially bound for a desert planet, has ended up by mistake. Your task is to ensure that the 40k colonists, asleep in the quartz storage of the wreckage of the ship, will have a planet that is capable of sustaining human life, even if that life requires adaptation on the side of the humans.
The planet has a lot of lifeforms, some of them cute, some of them dangerous.
You know what some people are howling about? That they don't get to kill the predator species. The devs outright said that they are not planning on implementing the ability to kill hostile mobs in Subnautica 2. From an in-universe perspective, it would make all kinds of sense not to. To try to keep your impact on the ecosystem as small as possible.
But the entitled pissbabies are howling because they feel emasculated by not being allowed to play as the apex predator in a game that is about learning about and adapting to the world around you.
