I've been thinking how (hypothetically) the public would react to Cassandra Cain after Bruce adopted her, specifically in regards to her scars.
The only idea I've had so far is that the bats are super good at makeup and just cover all the scars before they appear in public. I'd be interested to see what other tumblrers think
okay! 4 days and a bunch of on-off work later, I'm finally done with one of my passion projects.
So as everyone who has ever visited the DC Wiki knows, it sucks for a wide variety of reasons (lack of sourcing, incomplete and/or wrong information, generally hard to navigate, etc etc). One of the wiki's many issues is that there have historically been no substantive reading recommendations on anyone's character pages.
Well...as of now, every single major Batfamily member's New Earth (post-Crisis) and Prime Earth (post-Flashpoint) DC wiki pages have a mostly complete reading recs list at the bottom!!! (except Bruce, because fuck trying to figure that one out lmao, I just linked to the Wiki's Batman Recommended Reading page and will deal with that issue later)
These lists should encompass most of the character's major appearances in that continuity. For anyone who's had more than one mantle in a given continuity, the recs are split up by mantle. Here's what Dick's post-Crisis page looks like now, for example:
Note: there are no specific exclusions due to quality, because I kept in mind the fact that this is a public-facing wiki and not a personal recs list. What I think about any given entry doesn't matter; the point is that the books are there for people to read for themselves. I will still be keeping my personal Batfam reading recs list up to date, because 'major appearances' and 'these comics are actually good/good depictions of the character' lists are two different things. But hopefully anyone navigating the Batfam's wiki pages will now have solid reading timelines for everyone.
I hope to do some more work on these lists at some point (filling out the lists a bit more, breaking up the long-running books by creative team, and eventually coding in some stories that don't fit neatly on a single line, at minimum), but I'm pretty satisfied with my work for now!

Ok I'm on break at work right now and I just want to announce that I'm a Harper row lover.
She's so underrated and I loved her dynamic with Cass in batman and Robin eternal. (Even though I've heard that run isn't exactly popular)
I especially really like the young justice interpretation of her even tho she's still underused and I don't think she becomes bluebird. I still love the design and voice acting and dynamics with violet.
I really hope she appears in cass' ongoing at some point. Poor girl is surviving off of cameos in Wayne family adventures.
But yeah consider this a Harper row appreciation post.
I think that sometimes, when Steph and Cass are out on patrol and it's just them. Steph will stop talking and just let Cass read her body language. Not for any real reason other then the fact she knows it's easier for Cass to just read body language then to take the effort to translate movement into words.
I bet this also comes in handy when the two need to make a plan in silence, Cass can read Steph to get the plan and nod or shake her head.
I can just imagine them playing 20 questions or some other "yes or no" game in the backseat of the batmobile, and Bruce looks into the back to just see the two sitting in silence staring at each other with Cass nodding or shaking her Head occasionally.
Steph doesn't know but Cass can also read the fact that Steph sometimes thinks about kissing her. It totally only happens rarely...right?
I was ranting to my girlfriend last night about the new power rangers looking batman comic DC announced, and how I was frustrated at them bringing Barbra back as that team's batgirl yet again. Don't get me wrong Barbra is great as a character, I just think she's better as oracle and has cooler storylines to take as Oracle then as batgirl. Not to mention like- share the spotlight queen?! She's reoccurring in so many comics since like forever and has been batgirl for decades. I just think it could open the door for some "rarer" dynamics and storylines if they used Cass or Steph as that team's batgirl instead. Specifically Steph (Cass already appears in two ongoing comics atm) I mean as far as I'm aware Steph is living off of crumbs of cameos and Wayne family adventures.
Not sure how to end this so yeah. Please Barbra Gordon share the spotlight a little 🙏

An AU where the justice league thinks all the batkids are secretly metahumans.
They know duke is one, they've all seen him glow.
And they know...well they're pretty sure Bruce *isn't* one, but dick? The way he moves through the air like it's second nature? He's got to have some kind of gravity or flying based meta ability. Surely no regular human has that much control in the air.
And Jason, they know he's come back to life, and they know he had the criminal underworld of Gotham scared out of its mind. They aren't sure what his meta ability could be but they're sure it's scary.
Tim has *got* to have some kind of technomancy-ish ability. They've all seen him hack entire buildings as easy as ticking a capcha. Cyborg is cynical but also thinks there must be something meta about him.
Damian has been seen with a whole extra dimensional circus worth of crazy animals and beasts, he must have some kind of animal communication, or even be able to create his own "monsters* or at least that's the conclusion that shazam comes to.
Cass has even black Canary impressed, the way she appears and disappears into shadows without a word, the way she never takes a hit? The rumour that she killed lady Shiva, THE lady Shiva. The reports of her dodging bullets. The bridge she and batman blew up while fighting? The conclusion they come to is that she *must* have some kind of pre-cognitive abilities, or even limited time travel to go back and dodge unexpected hits.
Meanwhile in the batcave Tim has hacked I to watch tower video feeds and is broadcasting the JL theorize about their powers on the biggest screen on the bat computer with all the batkids watching and teasing each other about the conclusions the JL comes to.
After the events of spirit world, xanthe taught Cass how to fold joss paper into all sorts of stuff. Now in her room in Wayne manor Cass has a drawer filled with blank joss paper and regularly folds her own little trinkets and offers them to various spirits. She's been trying to teach xanthe how to throw batarangs by folding them out of joss paper and giving them to xanthe.
Xanthe appreciates it but doesn't quite know how to break it to Cass that they simply just prefer the giant fuck off sword.
I feel like no one ever talks about the fact that Cass was shot in the head once, like people draw her with scars which is awesome but I didn't think I've ever seen a scar in her head from the bullet.
Could be really cool to write little scenes about too.
Cass sitting in front of Oracles chair as babs does her hair (motherly) before a bellet recital and feeling the scar.
Or Steph affectionately running her hands through cass' hair and gets worried about the scar when she feels it. It doesn't help that all Cass has to say about it is "got shot, I walked it off"

But it's filmed on Steph's phone so the quality is kinda crappy and Cass keeps flipping it to selfie mode while trying to film a cool dance Steph learnt on TikTok. Oracle watches on in disappointment and winces every time they have to do it again because Cass took a photo of her forehead by accident.
