On August 15, 1977, astronomers using the Big Ear Radio Telescope at Ohio State University detected an anomalous radio signal which lasted 72 seconds. They ruled out any man-made or natural sources that could explain it. The signal, which became known as the Wow Signal has still not been explained. Was it an astronomical event or a message from an alien source?
These hieroglyphs are from the temple of Seti I in Abydos, Egypt and appear to show modern flying aircraft. One looks like a helicopter and another looks like a modern jet. What are these symbols? Is this evidence of ancient technology or something else?
The temple complex of Karnak, just north of Luxor, is the second largest religious complex in the ancient world, after Angkor Wat in Cambodia. It was started in the Middle Kingdom and was maintained until the Ptolemaic period. Most of it is dedicated to Amun-Ra, the sun god. All of Notre Dame Cathedral would fit easily within the walls of the main temple.

What is this script?
The ancient Incan city of Pumapunku or Puma Punku is a site in Bolivia which features astoundingly modern stonework. According to the Inca, Pumapunku (The Door of the Puma) was the spot where the world was created. The stones, some weighing more than 130 metric tons, were transported from 6 miles away without wheels. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the site, is the way that the stonework was cut for metal fittings, allowing them to be clamped together. How on earth did a civilization with no form of writing and lacking the invention of the wheel build something so modern?
In the ancient sanskrit epics, there are descriptions of “mechanical birds” and flying chariots which were flown by the gods. They were described as “golden-colored” and consisting of wheels and gears. In some cases, they were depicted as flying cities. The texts describing these flying machines are from 1500BC. Is this evidence of a lost ancient technology, alien visitors or something else?
While not as well known as the Voynich Manuscript, the Rohonc Codex is similar in that it was written by an unknown author in an unknown language. The illustrations range from battles to religious scenes from both Christian and Muslim traditions. Some of the symbols are used very rarely, indicating that they may be logographic like Chinese. The manuscript surfaced in the early 1800s in Hungary. Since then, it has been the subject of speculation.
The tomb of Alexander the Great was at the very center of Alexandria, the city he founded in Egypt. It was the most visited site in the ancient world for centuries and a pilgrimage spot for the Roman elite. It was one of the most commonly described spots in the ancient world, yet in the 4th century, it completely disappeared. Nobody knows where the tomb is now or where the former location of this famous landmark even was in the city as it exists now.
Did you know that the Great Sphinx has been buried by sand for much of its history? It is also true that the most eroded and weathered part of the sphinx is the body, which is odd because, aside from being buried in sand most of the time, the Giza Plateau has not seen significant rain fall in 10,000 years. In fact, the only two structures surviving from ancient Egypt with significant erosion by water are the Sphinx and the Sphinx Temple which were both carved from the same stone. Some believe the head of the Sphinx was re-carved from the head of a lion to resemble a Pharaoh because the head is not in proportion with the body. Just how old is this thing?
New Evidence of an Old Migration
Madagascar, off the African coast and about 3,700 miles from Southeast Asia, is home to Malagasy, an Austronesian language. Because of the language connection, it was long theorized that the island was colonized by peoples from what is today Taiwan, Indonesia,and Malaysia perhaps 1,200 years ago. But there was no physical evidence. Well, that seems to have just changed. Recently excavated botanical remains on the Comoros Islands of Asian crops, including rice and cotton, are the first hard proof. Exciting!
The Dyatlov Pass incident refers to the unexplained deaths of a group of 9 highly experienced hikers from the Ural Polytechnic Institute. They died on an expedition in the Ural Mountains in 1959. The official report was that an “Unknown Compelling Force” caused the hikers to run from their tent in the middle of the night. Six of them died of hypothermia. Another had a fractured skull. One died of brain damage but without any trauma to the skull and a female hiker was missing her eyes and tongue. Four of them had high levels of radiation detected on their clothing. To this day, the true cause of their deaths remains unsolved.
The Tunguska Event is the name of a bizarre explosion, about 1,000 times stronger than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, which occurred in a remote region of Russia in 1908. Nobody knows for certain what caused the explosion which could be felt from miles away. Trees over 5 miles from the center of the explosion were knocked down and a larger ring of trees were burned. An eye witness from 40 miles away said the heat was so strong that he tried to rip his shirt off and when the concussion of sound hit him, he was thrown several meters. Scientists have speculated the explosion was an asteroid or a comet which disintegrated a few miles before hitting the ground. However, when the area was surveyed, there was no evidence of a crater or impact event from even smaller fragments.
The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut is aligned with the Winter Solstice. Around the solstice, a shaft of light from the doorway highlights scenes of the gods Amen-Ra, Hapi and the likeness of Thutmose III. It also hilights the statues of Osiris which are outside the the 2nd chamber. Of all the buildings in ancient Egypt, this came closest to the classical architecture that would emerge in Greece and the Aegean a thousand years later.

The Phaistos Disc is one of the most famous archaeological puzzles. Found in Phaistos, Crete, the disc contains 241 symbols which are repeats of 45 distinct characters. It has never been deciphered and similar discs have never been found.
