Remember when fusion was introduced in Steven Universe and its fandom, desperate to prove that a cartoon for children was ACTUALLY secretly for adults, decided it was explicitly a 1:1 metaphor for sex, despite the show being clear that it was loosely symbolic of relationships in general and couldn't be directly equivalent to any one human relationship dynamic on its own?
And because the fandom decided fusion = sex, a lot of later plot developments looked a lot more creepy and deranged, like Steven fusing with his dad or Pearl tricking Garnet into fusing with her. But rather than realize this interpretation was wrong, the fandom dug in their heels and insisted the creators of the show were monsters, because to do otherwise might force them to admit they couldn't understand a show written for children.
Anyway, it's good that only happened once with that show's fandom, and not multiple times because the fandom really didn't want to accept they were watching a children's show.
I think a lot of kids media discourse would be solved if people remember that the lessons they try to teach are meant to be applicable to children.
#where’s that post that’s like
#‘kids shows have anti-violence morals because kids need to be taught not to kick their sister’

We're at a point where there are no cheap options to retreat to and no price points that guarantee quality. Every run-down studio is $1400, every fast food meal is $17, every luxury condo has peel-n-stick tiles, every $300 pair of boots falls apart. Endless expensive mediocrity.
end]
Yeah I remember when the brands with a decades-long reputation for quality still sold good quality products. Most of them are cutting corners left and right now, their prices have only gone up, and their remaining reputation is being destroyed.
If I knew where to spend $300 on a pair of boots that would last I might actually do it. As it is I just buy used on the theory that even though I'll get less wear out of them overall, the average price per month is much lower.
The cheap options have all gotten more expensive relative to the working class's earning power -- the federal minimum wage is still $7.25! It should've been $15 ten years ago! Should probably be $30-40 nowadays given the cost of everything and the general increase of productivity in all types of job that do actual work.

I’ve been meaning to assemble this panorama and correct the very difficult lighting (especially for a very retro iPhone 5 camera) for ten years and this post reminded me to get around to it.
On June 26th, 2015, a completely foreign world to now, I was driving home with NPR on, and pulled into a grocery store parking lot.
I had just heard via the radio the Obergefell v. Hodges decision which legalized gay marriage.
Texas was celebrating with a double rainbow.
All love is beautiful.
It’s really crazy to see how hard people flounder if you are even remotely confrontational like we have a generation of people who think they can communicate through passive aggressive games of telephone and insta stories and get scared if you tell them no. This sounds like something someone’s boomer grandpa would say but it’s true though

The wing pattern reminds me a lot of brahmin moths, which are also sometimes called owl moths :)

Apart from everything else you can say about this performance and the movie itself, I'm really into these tags:
[image description: a series of tags reading “putting this on a stage instead of in a movie lays bare the mediation of performance#and its making me think Thoughts about the spectrum of like
#dance as performance (viewed by audience) vs dance as expression (for self) vs dance as connection (with fellow participants)
#and how it IS a spectrum and not a clean one either
#much to chew on here when the idea being conveyed
#is best done by creating an artifice of an intimate space unwatched by outsiders
#buts its on a stage (or movie set) watched by millions
#its a painting of a very specific picture where the brush strokes are your own body and heart
#and when it starts to incorporate the time blur it breaks the concept of the closed room
#which idk if it makes me as an audience member feel less voyeristic
#bc on the one hand it feels less like im peeping on a scene im not invited to
#and more like this is a scene created specifically for viewing #which IT IS - but it kinda confronts the notion of scenes like this created for viewing in the first place
The US is detransitioning prisoners and just announced that ICE can detain trans people on suspicion of visa fraud. The UK just banned all care for trans kids and is now conducting an "evidence review" into HRT for trans adults and now the biggest DIY HRT web resource just went down.
Trans people need to learn solidarity yesterday, we need to be ready to organise together and set aside anything that we need to in order to get our shit sorted out. Cis people need to take it seriously that the fascists are trying to completely extinguish transess from existence
