always doing something annoying
can I be honest? I was so pissed off by friends and family criticizing my soap choice that, for half a year, I did an experiment where I washed one hand with Palmolive and one with handsoap, to prove that it didn't make your skin any rougher. and do you know what the result is? it does make your skin rougher. and now I'm even more pissed off.
For the goth "clothes that could also double as pyjamas" thing; I recommend looking into slacks for suits—some are very stiff and uncomfortable, but usually if you go to those fancy men's stores that only sell suits, you can find ones that feel like silky pyjama pants.
I say this as someone who used to have a pair that I got for graduation, that ended up replacing my flannel pyjama pants as my everyday cosy pants. The key might be to get them in a size too large. Add a comfortable sweater on top and you can walk out looking like you're at the front of a fashion magazine. The only downside would be wrinkles but that's a matter of material.
I've decided that the most sensible course of action for me is to take my current pants (the zip-off goth jorts) apart and reconstructing them from scratch. They've only gotten difficult and uncomfortable due to becoming overcomplicated and full of temporary solutions. So I'm using this weekend to put them back together again as something that looks the way I like and isn't prohibitively uncomfortable.
On an unrelated note, I'm starting to feel like the divide between european vs. american ideas of how to dress is less about "is it acceptable to wear sweatpants" and more about "is there a mid-range between suit-and-tie formal and wearing sweatpants". Like in Europe there's a sliding scale range of medium-nice clothing, that you wear in public, but evidently this doesn't exist in the US, where you're either going out in the pyjamas that you were wearing when you rolled out of bed two minutes ago, or dressed like you're going to a black tie event.
Me, two glasses of wine in: "yeah so here's an in depth conversation about my identity as a nonbinary person, and my struggles with transphobia in 2023"
Median Center-Right American Dude at the party, also two drinks in: "Damn that's crazy, I never thought of it like that. Man, I'm sorry you gotta deal with this shit."
Me: "Ahh it's alright. I deal."
Random Guy: "People should just chill tf out."
Me: "Damn right"
Random Guy: "So if you're non binary, and, sorry if this is offensive but I don't know the right words here. Like, is it cross dressing for you if you wear a skirt?"
Me: "Its- hm. Huh. I have no idea."
Guy: "It must have been nice to go to school with other trans people. Like, you must've felt safe."
Me: "No actually it was the opposite. It just made me even more upset and confused. I didn't know what being non-binary was. I saw people that transitioned from one gender to the other and knew I wasn't that. It took me a long time to figure this shit out."
Guy: "man that sounds rough. No wonder you guys are upset all this time this sounds painful."
Me: "Well, it sucks until it suddenly doesn't. It sucks and then it rules hard."
Guy: "so It's like working out."
Me: [both of us are now nodding wisely] "it's like working out."
Guy who has only ever played undertale seeing a skeleton for the first time: "holy shit"

In an effort to attract first-time clientele and bring back old fans, Italian American restaurant chain Olive Garden unveiled its new “We Invented Spaghetti” slogan Friday during a call with investors. “We want Americans to know that when you’re at Olive Garden, you’re not just getting a delicious meal at an unbeatable price, you’re also stepping foot into a little bit of history and seeing where the most popular pasta type in the world originated,” company president John Wilkerson said of the slogan, which will reportedly be rolled out alongside a $35 million television ad campaign that features smiling patrons digging into steaming plates of the long cylindrical pasta while a voiceover intones: “Spaghetti—Olive Garden came up with it. You just get to enjoy it.”

Day 163/365 of listing something good I saw today:
I took apart my zip-off goth jorts to rebuild them better. Already noticing ways I could do things differently to make them better.
Reminder to self: A file folder of outlines and character notes and half-written scenes is the equivalent of an artist’s sketchbook and holds just as much value to the creative process.
If a framed canvas isn’t the only worthwhile expression of visual art, then a fully edited and polished piece of significant length is not the only worthwhile expression of writing.
Anti-city people are just plain fascinating to me
I've got to look up every possible way to sew hidden, concealed and non-obvious pockets and other such storage caches in all of my clothing, and then have as many of those as I can fit in every item in my wardrobe. Trying to get as much hidden storage space on my person as possible. Carrying around a backpack's worth of shit without carrying a bag of any sort.
Getting bored while waiting for the bus and just casually pulling a goddamn sewing kit out of my sleeve to start doing needlework on my jeans, like hey hold on where the fuck did you just pull that shit from. Equipping shit from my secret inventory.
Hammer space but it's a pocket specifically located on your left calf. Neat :D
isn't it crazy that a woman being gender nonconforming literally just requires her to exist in her own body without making any changes whatsoever. why does the fact that i don't wear makeup and i don't shave and i don't wear a bra have to be some political act. why can't i just fucking exist
time to make a post on tumblr. surely no one will interpret it to be as offensive and bad intentioned as possible.
by talos this cant be happening
sometimes I think the world is ending and then I remember people have thought the world is going to end within their lifetime for at least 1,500 years and they were all wrong and had to live through this bullshit anyway
Like. Look. Listen. I have taught introductory quantum physics at a university level, and I need you all to incorporate this into your trans advocacy: There are situations where you need to make a decision to prioritize being comprehensible to your target audience above being The Most Unassailably Correct.
