we have to write poems in my creative writing certificate program, so I pieced something together from Belphie's medical reports

my professor really liked this and said that it should be 'the nucleus of a chapbook' (so like 15-30 poems of the same theme that I would attempt to get published) but now I feel awkward because I think that she thinks HE DIED? but it turns out, everything will be alright! his heart recovered! the FIP meds are working!

Elf Society Idea

So elves are immortal or at least very long lived... but their aging wouldn't be unusual for a late-blooming human, if not for the fact that they've complicated what their society expects of an "adult".

Some ways this could manifest:

Humans expect an adult to apologize when they're in the wrong. Elves expect an adult to do the same, but to also correctly deduce (via social clues) which of the 12 ways of apologizing the one wronged will accept.

Humans tend to just two or three "milestones" in the process of becoming an adult -- such USA having 18 as the "can join army & vote" milestone and 21 as the "can drink" milestone. Elves have many, many more milestones --- we're talking like separate ones for different types of alcohol.

Human languages can have words be masculine/feminine, multiple forms of a word based on respect (like French's tu / vous). Elf languages dial this WAY THE FUCK UP. (Like a "you" which is only used for people you want to call a bitch.)

Humans have family trees, which some people are really into and other people are not. Elves also have this, of course, but they also have a similar thing for friend groups. We're talking titles like Aunt/Uncle but it designates a specific type of friend. it also plays into the language stuff previously mentioned.

Humans see elves as impossibly well educated, even a "uneducated" elf possessing more knowledge then a King's Half-Elf son could hope to be taught. Elves see humans as the like, level of education a poor learner should be able to acquire.

Humans sees elf/human couplings as the human being so desirable that a elf would endure the human's short lifespan. Elves see elf/human couplings as the elf being AT BEST that guy who exclusively dates people who are legal but don't look legal. The human is usually thought of as simply young and naive.
