“What the hell happened to you...?”

A pang of pity pierced him. He would hate to be in her position right now. Haiji had difficulty believing she was genuinely calm about this. He was being anxious for her, if that were the case.

Her jaw locked "would panicking do anything? Either I'm permently blind or its temperary either way panicking won't do anything personally I'm worried about your sister"

Haiji didn’t want Monaca to see her like this. It would scare her...would it? She had always been a brave girl, but he still tried to protect her.

He perked out of the room, forcing a smile for Monaca. “Hey, Monaca.”

Monaca stopped in front of him. “Is Big Sister okay?? Can Monaca see her?”

“She’s resting, but just...” His voice trailed off. The smile he had tried to keep intact crumbled in seconds. She was going to find out anyway. Why hide the cold hard truth? He couldn’t keep her from facing the harsh reality of some situations, no matter how much he had the need to do so.

He gently patted her back as he guided her into the room. “Cella’s okay, I promise you that, but...just don’t freak out about what you’ll see,” he said. “Please...”

Monaca didn’t understand why her big brother was acting tense, so she glanced at Cella for answers. Haiji hoped Monaca could handle the sight of her “sister’s” empty eyes. And the cause of it.

“Big Sister?”
