Okay, of course it's ridiculous, but like, this is a great exercise for thinking critically about this. Why would someone want to create a drug like that? What's the profit motive there? It's ridiculous, right? It only makes sense if you think drug dealers exist to kill cops and "normal people." But like... the minute you ask "who would that even benefit" (which is honestly the first question you should ask with any headline) it all falls apart.

Why would someone want to create a drug like that? For sedating elephants.

A drug like that actually exists. It’s called Etorphine, and it’s only practical use is sedating animals like elephants and rhinoceros.

It is so unbelievably potent that it can only be sold packaged with its antidote. You are supposed to only use it if you have a human medical professional nearby (like, a few meters away) because if you accidentally splash yourself, you will die.

This drug doesn’t even get manufactured every year, it’s that rarely used and that dangerous to be around. It is legendarily dangerous.

You could absolutely, technically, manufacture etorphine. But it’s going to kill all your customers, several of your ‘street scientists’ and that cop. Practically, that is not profitable.

But gosh if it doesn’t just scare people that couldn’t know any better into handing over more funding…
