You do know the reason abortion is carried out that late in a pregnancy is because of fetal abnormalities, right? There’s no woman that stays pregnant for 8 months and then decides “Meh, I’m just gonna have an abortion instead.”

These women are not nasty, they are not evil, they are women who were so excited to welcome their little one into this world. They are women who had a nursery set up and baby clothes bought. They are women who excitedly waited for their due date, took belly photos and updated the world on how their pregnancy was coming along. They are the women who woke up one day and felt that their baby wasn’t moving anymore. They are the women that felt in their gut that something was terribly wrong, just to have their worst fears confirmed.

They are the women who went to a regular checkup to find out that their baby is severely deformed and won’t live outside the womb, or will but only for a few days and suffer terribly the whole time. They are the women who have to make a decision to not let their baby suffer.

Women having abortions that late are not women who just decided to get an abortion 8 months into pregnancy. While that is there right to do so, know that isn’t what happens. Know that that isn’t the reality.

Times have changed with abortion, and as we rise up against those who would oppress us and take away the right to abortion, I ask you to not use the coat hanger as a rallying cry, because that is the symbol of my era, a time when a pregnancy could only be ended with a procedure. The symbol for this era is a pill. And while it may be hard to get, and we need to work on improving access, we don’t want to give people the idea that in desperation a coat hanger or injecting Lysol or throwing themselves down the stairs is the best option. Because they’re not. If people are going to access a self-managed abortion that may be clandestine as far as the State is considered, the best option for many may be misoprostol.

Mifepristone and misoprostol together is ideal, and while I think everyone should have that option, it may not be possible for everyone to access. So it is important that people know how effective misoprostol alone is and where they can get it. And as I have written here, there is no way any doctor or nurse or police lab can determine if you have taken it as long as you take it under your tongue or place the tablets against your cheek.

Misoprostol is available as a prescription in the United States for prevention of stomach ulcers, especially for people who are taking NSAIDS, like ibuprofen. A lot of people take a lot of ibuprofen for menstrual cramps.

I don’t know if I’m ready to give up the only abortion-rights symbol recognized by the US’s general public, but maybe it’s time to make some paper-plate pill props.

Your hang-up with penises is honestly ridiculous. As a lesbian, a woman who likes women, you will like and date and sleep with trans women just as you will with cis women. I stopped wearing makeup to work this year and everyone needs to realize we stop getting asked if we're sick or tired once people recognize our natural face. It doesn't happen anymore. I've had other women compliment my choice to go natural after they ask why I don't wear makeup. We can't keep making excuses. We have to make changes and challenge ourselves and the people around us to get used to it or get over it. At some point we have to practice what we preach and stop being afraid.

True. I never wear makeup and nobody has ever said anything to me about it, positive or negative.

The negative comments I got were primarily in my youth. No one says anything now that I’m an old maid.

I did have a male student once ask why I don’t dye my hair. I said I wanted him to see all the grey hairs I earned from dealing with mouthy and lazy students who asked rude questions to avoid doing their work. He got back on task pretty quickly after that.

Gonna get probably too deep for a second but I was reading an article way back when about motives for rape, i.e. whether it was about sex or power.

A lot of times, the answer is both. This logic that she explains in the video is one example that can also be applied to a more violent situation, rape as camaraderie.

She is not talking about something as serious as gang rape, or rapists bonding over their exploits, but I think that the train of thought, the blurring of sexual desire and power tripping, is very similar.
