there are days where NO ❌️ video games are played and there are days where video games are played for 10 or maybe 14 hours straight
Story prompt:
You have a superpower that keeps you safe: whenever you are in danger, time freezes.
You could be asleep, or in the middle of a conversation, or watching a movie. Time would stop and give you a chance to leave the area, and as soon as you were out of danger, time would immediately start up again
You walk in front of a bus and time stops until you exit its path. Someone tries to mug you, but suddenly you're gone; down the street and around the corner, so even when he turns around he can't see you, and therefore can't come after you.
One day you're watching tv at home and everything freezes. You look around, but you're alone. You get up and walk out of your apartment - the unnatural quiet, and the immobile dust motes suspended in the shaft of light from the window at the end of the hall tells you the danger still has not passed. You leave the building and the city is motionless. You walk down the street, then you go a few blocks, and before you know it you've traversed several neighborhoods, but nothing changes
After what feels like hours of walking, time still hasn't resumed, which means the danger still hasn't passed
So what the hell is going on??
idea: a nuclear bomb is about to be dropped.
my first thought
After a very long time (you'd say multiple hours, but you can't estimate it well. There's nothing to estimate it by.) walking in random directions, it finally clicks. This isn't something that happened to you, it was going to destroy the whole city at least. You can't check your phone for news, because that requires a current to be transmitting information, so that's not an option. But you can open doors. And bars in the area are sure to have a tv. If any news about this came before time stopped, the screen is likely to still be stuck on that transmission. You know it's a low chance, but you have nothing else to try.
now some of you might be wondering why I, a very loudly transgender type of girl, might reblog transmasc joy posts. That is because I love seeing people happy and actualized :]
These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.
While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.
Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.
We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
Environmental problems CAN BE SOLVED.
Hey does anybody have any advice or know any tips? I've always wanted to know how to do something.
1. If you can avoid it, never call a business on the first day of the week it's open. Wait until at least 40 minutes after they're open on the second day. This waits out the first wave of frantic callers and gives whoever is on the phone time to grab a coffee and drink enough that they don't feel disturbed in their morning start-up ritual.
You'll spend less time on hold and reach more people with the time and patience to hear you out.
2. Take notes for phone calls. You can literally make a numbered check list of what you definitely want to bring up, and then during the call take down who you spoke to, at what date and what solutions/deadlines were promised.
This keeps you on topic without forgetting your priorities, and also gives you something to refer back to later.
The method of changing your duvet cover by rolling it onto the duvet was a huge help when I had low energy:
A rice cooker can also cook most frozen vegetables, as long as they're in small pieces, and can reheat precooked meats also in bite-sized bits. You can make a whole meal in around half an hour by dumping 1 cup rice, 2 cups liquid, and 1-2 servings of meat & vegetables in a rice cooker and hitting start. Use a flavored liquid, like broth, or mix in seasonings at the start, and you're good to go. Cubed carrots and sweet potato with canned chickpeas and yellow curry paste, for example. Frozen peas and pearl onions with shredded chicken and chicken broth.
Whatever you like.
Combining points 1 & 2 from the first reply:
If you get offered some kind of discount or exception or replacement from a person over the phone, get their email address and send them the notes from your call to "confirm" the information so you have a paper trail if someone later tries to tell you that you weren't offered that or you don't get an exception.
Similarly, if you offer to be the note-taker for meetings and your boss isn't particularly observant, you can use that to slowly push for change by making plausible adjustments to the notes and then sending them to all the attendees 1-2 days after the meeting. If your boss catches something, you can say it was a typo or you misheard or misunderstood. When they ask why people are doing things differently, you answer "oh don't you remember changing it back at that meeting a few weeks ago? You decided that it was better to do it this way because [reasoning you gave to try to convince them originally]. I think I can probably find it in the meeting notes if you want." and then send them your notes. This is how I got a job to change our lunch breaks from 30 mins to a full hour paid. "Don't you remember the meeting where you said you thought it would be better to extend the breaks so that people come back from work refreshed and work harder for the rest of the shift? Give me like 15 mins and I'll see if I can find which meeting it is for you"

My latest cartoon for New Scientist
To be clear, this isn't a bit. This is what they actually did. "Its too late" is the new "Climate change isn't real"... And its still a lie!
Every serious climate scientist agrees that there is no such as thing as too late, just as there is no such thing as too early. We should have done a lot more than we have to fight climate change, and the world will suffer for our inaction, but there is no point of no return. We can always work to reduce the amount of suffering that occurs, and eventually turn things around to the point where our planet is healing once again. Do not believe anyone who says it's "too late".
so metropolitan museum of art has a register of books they’ve published that are out of print and that you can download for free! they’re mostly books on art, archeology, architecture, fashion and history and i just think that’s super useful and interesting so i wanted to share! you can find all of the books available here!

I miss when social media platforms were actually different and unique. instagram was ad-free and for photo sharing only. youtube was for videos. tiktok was for short and quick videos. twitter was for venting. now everything looks exactly the same and soulless. there's no whimsy left
