life update: have realized that my cat has figured how to herd me. he'll run up to me anywhere in the house and start meowing and meowing and meowing and racing around my ankles until I go back to my room and get on my bed so he can curl up into my side and immediately go to sleep. at which point I'm not allowed to leave for 1-4 hours.
