Think about it this way: If someone claims to have a shattered leg bone but says they never broke their leg, they're either mixing up symptoms and are dealing with something that isn't a broken leg or don't remember the thing that broke their leg. Legs don't just spontaneously break, there has to be pressure, there has to be something to break it. you can't have a broken leg without breaking your leg, and you can't have alters without the trauma that causes them.

There's gotta be a better way to dunk on antivaxxers and argue against quack medicine than acting like all doctors are infallible sages who can't be questioned.

Like, medical & scientific consensus is a big deal, knowing which sources of information are trustworthy and which ones are bunk is a vital skill, but also doctors are often malicious and often wrong. As a disabled, I really don't like how much the reaction against idiots eating horse paste and drinking bleach has taken the form of "The medical-industrial complex is always trustworthy and should never be questioned"

I'm not being particularly articulate b/c my brain isn't being very cooperative at the moment (funny, that) but I feel like in general we hold a lot of well-earned and completely valid antipathy towards professions that most ppl consider to be implicitly above reproach.

It's like how I'm unable to talk about how traumatic and horrifying the US public school system is without some mook feeling the need to remind me that teachers work very hard.

It's because one person is talking about ideas like facts, feelings, and experiences (which is descriptive)... and the other person is making value statements (which are non-descriptive). Value statements are a REALLY CONSISTENT indicator that someone is full of bullshit and is trying to manipulate the other person (or be dismissive).

So yeah, if we say "I don't trust doctors due to x, y, z experience, so now I don't want to get the vaccine," then we would ideally respond with, "Okay, that's valid, and that was an individual doctor. Maybe since this is consensus based, peer reviewed, and not solely made by doctors (but also researchers who may or may not have an MD, may include chemical engineers etc), you can see how it's different than the dickbag doctor you had that one time." IF the response is "Doctors are saints, they work so hard, they have to be smart to get into med school!" Then that person is being reactionary and invalidating, and utterly unhelpful.

Can i just say that i really really love the new "trend" of analog horror youtube channels?? I love those creators! Coming up with concepts like that and being able to transform them inside a video is so cool. How it's obvious yet mysterious. It's an honor to watch these videos and make up my theories or read/watch other's theories. I have so much respect for these people creating somewhat a new horror genre. ya know. as someone who has, as far as i am aware, not split any new alters since becoming aware of having a dissociative disorder, and yet have gone from 2 to 9 known parts, i think perhaps understanding that existing parts can be discovered at any time would benefit a lot of people, and counter act a lot of the discourse ive seen around how much or little distress is required to split a new part as well as how distressing the actual process of splitting is. not only that, but a lot of people who get "called out for faking" and the people doing the calling out, may not be aware that discovering new parts is possible and could be misattributing the presence of new parts to splitting.

anyway i just think talking about things like this is important because it will help a lot to curb some of the misinformation ive seen being spread around
