After bouncing off vanilla morrowind many years ago because I'm an oblivion child and then bouncing of heavily modded morrowind years later because after going through 10 hour video on how to install all the "essential" mods it still didn't work perfectly, what mods would you recommend to make the game slightly more digestible for a weak gamer like myself?
not necessarily how I'd recommend everyone plays, but if you're having trouble getting into it...
install morrowind, then openmw (it's basically oneclick now)
follow this tutorial step by step up until they tell you what mods to install, because we're going straighter to the point. you'll be adding the paths the same way
install patch for purists, morrowind optimization patch, and expansion delay
install Move-Like-This (I honestly just recommend this to most people nowadays, since it makes combat more engaging)
install Hit Reactions Animated and Impact Effects
consider SME if the lack of enemy health is bothering you, but I'd advise against it
install AFFRESH to give yourself more earlygame quests that aren't trying to kill you
ideally you'd install S3MAPHORE and configure the silence between tracks option here, but for sake of brevity, you can start with silence.mp3 which just adds silent tracks to the bgm to give you breathing room
before starting the game, turn your hitboxes to cylinders instead of boxes in the openmw launcher and make sure custom animations are enabled
rebind your controls when you boot up the game because it predates the modern rpg standardisations
decide early on if you want to be a magic guy, a agility guy, or a strength guy. you can overlap into one of these, but you generally want to favour the style you actually intend on playing with most
if you want health, make sure you have a skill that trains endurance
take Steed as your star sign if you want to walk everywhere
and there you go, mostly oblivion-safe morrowind with minimal chaff
