Iruka sensed a familiar disturbance in the force long before the sound waves reached him and nearly shattered his eardrums.
“IRUKA- SENSEI!!”
The six and seven year olds in his classroom just gaped in confusion as an orange blur slammed straight into their resigned-looking teacher, propelling him into the chalkboard with a loud smack.
Iruka felt his eyes twitch violently as the back of his head impacted the board and chalk dust flew all around him. The dry cloud clung to his face and inserted itself in his nasal passages. Somehow, he had the presence of mind to keep his mouth shut to avoid tasting the foul stuff.
“Didja miss me?” Naruto beamed up at him, somehow having wrapped himself around Iruka’s torso.
Of course he had. Naruto had been gone two years; that was a ridiculous question. For just a moment, nostalgia made him smile.
The teenager smiled up at him. He hadn’t let go, still. His face was far too low for Iruka’s comfort, to be entirely honest. Naruto had probably just gotten too excited and dove right at where he’d last remembered being tall enough to reach. Or maybe he’d tripped and that was why he was on his knees.
Even though he’d reasoned it through, Iruka still couldn’t suffocate the burning rage that was threatening to take him whole.
Besides, if beating up a jinchuuriki wouldn’t cow his students into listening to their teacher, he doubted anything would. With that in mind, Iruka entirely let go of the calm façade.
“NARUTO!” He shouted, frothing at the mouth and kicking the genin out the classroom window like he was a rag doll. He vaguely registered the dumbstruck look on Naruto’s face amidst the tinkling of falling glass before he leapt out the window behind his former student.
Naruto landed as gracefully as he’d expected. That is to say that he belly-flopped onto the ground like a fish, still yelling in confusion.
1) do this even if you're under 40. seriously. I definitely should have been doing something like this for years and I only turned 40 a month and a half ago
2) if you're like me just now trying this going "oh god i've only done 15 and i think my hands are cramping" start lower than 30 and increase by 5 once whatever number you're doing no longer makes your hand cramp up. I can manage about 15 per exercise at the moment.
Y'all for real please do these. Even if you're certain your posture doesn't suck. One day you will wake up with impinged shoulder pain like I did and let me tell you it fucking HURTS. Do these exercises even just once a week and it will make such a difference. Especially my fellow creatives out there, stop shrimping over your work and go do these right now. RIGHT NOW.
Also, if you’re even a little concerned about getting a hump or having trouble standing fully upright in your old age, this is how you prevent that. If you want to be up and about when you’re old you have to start when you’re younger. And keep in mind there is no bad time to start and it’s never too late. Starting today is way better than never starting at all.
you can choose to break up with someone for any reason. and it’s your choice. you’re allowed. you don’t need to ask for permission. you don’t even need to do it in person. you won’t get in trouble. in fact, most of the time you’ll be in trouble for fucking staying.
they don’t even have to suck! you can just be tired! or bored! or want to be single! you don’t have to stay with a person you don’t want to be with because they “are such a good person and haven’t done anything wrong”!
WHY DO I KEEP TALKING TO WOMEN WHO ARE STUCK IN RELATIONSHIPS THEY DONT WANT TO BE IN
with no-fault divorces currently on the fucking chopping block, we really need to start telling young women that they have autonomy when it comes to their romantic relationships.
no, you don’t have to date that guy just cuz he wants to date you.
no, you don’t have to stay with her because she doesn’t want to break up.
no, you don’t have to keep dating them even though they haven’t cheated/abused you/whatever horrible thing is your only reference for ending a relationship.
this is basic info, but you’d be surprised at how many women don’t understand this, or feel like it’s not true.
and before ANYONE says that this goes for everyone, not just women, yes of course it does. anyone of any gender can suffer from this.
but let’s not deny that women are taught this shit from a young age. be virtuous, forgiving, kind, soft, turn the other cheek, it’s just cuz he’s a man and you’re a girl and you don’t understand. stay with him or you’re a bitch.
Free service with ads: Well, if I'm not paying for it they have to foot the bill somehow.
Paid service with no ads: Well, if they're not funding it with ad revenue, they need to charge us something.
Paid service with ads: Well that's bullshit.
"We used to be a paid service without ads, but now we're putting ads in it! If you want the ad-free version you have to pay more for preeeeemium": Fuck you fuck you fuck you
Not to sound like a decrepit, rambling corpse about it, but back in my day Word used to be a pre installed program that came with your computer, if you were running Windows.
No subscription. Just program.
On your computer. You got to use it forever and ever and never had to worry about it going away.
Because it was physically on your computer. As a program. That you actually owned. Not because you got it separately, but because it was a standard inclusion with your computer.
I'm sorry but I'll just never get over it. I remember when companies cared about their products being usable out of the box. I remember when our things belonged to us.
Old man shaking fist at cloud, wherein the cloud is the background of the Windows 98 logo.
okay if this breaks containment I think my asian grandparents would be proud of this post being my legacy. but for their sake i must clarify my personal stance. NO SHOES IN THE HOUSE AT ALL
fantastic. i love it. i posted this after my wife said it yesterday and as i was doing it i was like "this can't be an original thought. as soon as i hit post someone's going to say 'you stole this from a tweet from 2014' and i'll say 'no, i stole it from my beautiful wife.'"
Cass, who sees a video online of a dad letting his daughter give him a makeover, gets instantly intrigued. She quickly goes down a rabbit hole and quietly takes notes. Bruce, who discovers what caught her attention, gently offers to sit down and do makeovers with her. While Cass didn't grow up having normal childhood experiences, that doesn't mean they can't make up for lost time now. It doesn't even matter that she's already an adult. He's more than happy to indulge her.
Hours later, photos of Bruce Wayne and his daughter Cassandra Cain-Wayne are uploaded to his official account. Each picture shows off his full face of makeup, his hair styled with clips, and his newly painted nails. They practically break the internet, and #girldadbrucewayne immediately takes off.
I think the most hilarious place to put Post-Canon Sokka would have been the university at Ba Sing Se. I think he would have made a great unhinged professor. Also, in true Sokka fashion, he should have completely dodged fame. Momo is more famous than he is.
He wants to demonstrate to the class how this thing called electricity works, so he's going to be bringing in a Firebender, so everybody be cool, we're all friends here... and in walks Princess Azula of the Fire Nation. One-time conqueror of the city. One of the students is currently writing an essay on how her brief rule of the city affected fruit trade. She says she considers the class to still be her subjects as she doesn't acknowledge any pretenders to any of her thrones, but for now you're exempted from bowing and "Your Highness" will do. It's a really interesting lecture.
"Okay, guys - hey, listen up, everyone - I won't be here next week, me and Aang are going to-" yeah right, sure, Professor Sokka knows the Avatar. Except, of course, the Avatar walks in sheepishly and says that Appa might have gotten into Sokka's hybrid crops, and then you all have to sit there and watch your professor chase the Avatar around with a sword.
One postgrad student is specializing in Water Tribe Cultures. She's currently studying the massive cultural shift that happened in the Northern Water Tribe at the end of the war - oh, and Professor, I absolutely know that you're from the Southern Water Tribe, but it's just that the shift started with Master Katara, and of course I don't think that every person from the South knows one another haha it's just that I need to ask her some questions and I thought maybe you could help me write a letter or write a letter of introduction or...
Sokka looks at her blankly and goes "yeah, she's my sister. KATARA!" which is followed by a faint answering "fuck you!" from Somewhere and to the horror/elation of our postgrad, Master Katara bursts in and is promptly beaned in the head with a rock by Professor Sokka. Her brother. her hero and her professor are siblings and currently brawling on the floor.
Sokka does not teach or study history, but he does sometimes sit in on lectures about recent history. Whenever he does, several doctoral students flock in to sit near him (even if it's an intro course) so that they can eavesdrop on his grumbling. (No matter how they try, an "overheard utterance" is not a valid source according to their professors. No, we have no sources on the Avatar's bison taking part in combat - sky bison are not war animals and...)
He gets regular deliveries with the Beifong family crest on them, and he goes "sweet, Toph must have found some new minerals" and at this point nobody needs to ask which Toph. He seems to have friends everywhere, literally everywhere. Wang was headed out to this massive swamp to study if it's one big organism, and Sokka told him to find some guy named Hue and "don't mind the loincloth." One time the university gets shut down because the Earth King wants to visit. Oh, visit the University? What an honor- Of fucking course not, he wants to visit Professor Sokka, who yells at him and his royal guards for interrupting his day. The Earth King and his many, many royal guards then sheepishly say sorry and file out.
The last straw is when - not a week after he yelled at the Earth King - the assistant head of the Political Science dept walks in to the faculty lounge to find Sokka having tea with a nice normal man dressed in Earth greens for once, and can't resist a little joke. "Let me guess, you're having tea with the Fire Lord." And then she can instantly tell that she fucked up, because both of them go stock still.
So when the two men awkwardly stand up and proceed to introduce the Fire Lord whose portrait she has in her office because she is the assistant head of Political Science as Li, a server at the Jasmine Dragon, she just says "hello Li" and leaves to find a bottle of something strong.
Honestly, if you ever see a manga character and think "Damn, their style is dope as fuck" 9 times out of 10 their fit comes directly out of a fashion magazine. Sailor Moon was wearing Dior. JoJo was wearing Missoni.
Not to downplay the skill of the artists adapting those styles to their characters, but that is why the drip is so clean.
Like, this is a piece of trivia I love to share and I think it's important for a few reasons. One is because it emphasizes how much great art is about study and reference. Artists learn from artists and it elevates their work.
Two, because fashion *is* art (which is maybe a less controversial take now than it was a decade ago) and it's important that we recognize when great fashion inspires us.
Three, because acknowledging how much time great mangaka spent studying fashion *is* recognizing just how much hard work and effort goes into their creations.
From Sailor Moon at least these are probably the most relatively famous examples.
For instance! ☝️🤓
- Sailor Pluto wears the Karl Lagerfeld-designed Chanel gold chain dress from their Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1992 collection. Even the jewelry takes cues from the runway styling as worn by Christy Turlington
- Neo-Queen Serenity's dress is inspired by the Il Palladio gown from Dior's Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1992 collection. It's not a full lift— the manga's version plunges in the back whereas the neckline of the original is fully straight, among other stylizing on the details of the gown
- Black Lady's outfit was inspired by the styling done for Kate Moss for YSL's 1994 print advertisement campaign for their Opium perfume
- Koan's whole look was based off the sheer jumpsuit with the feathered tutu worn in Mugler's debut collection from Haute Couture Fall/Winter 1992 (for the life of me I cannot find this model's name 😭)
Here’s an example from JJBA. Araki references fashion media a LOT in his art, especially with the signature JoJo poses people know and love. Here’s some more:
A lot of people ask where I get my character fashion designs from and it's pretty much exactly this. I look at a lot of runway art shows for inspiration and either directly draw outfits or learn from how fashion designers use silhouettes, texture and color.
When you meet Edward Elric he gives off the impression that he's the short-tempered hot-headed "violence is the answer to all life's questions" kind of protagonist, and it's in fact incredible character craft that he's actually the character who ends the series with a negative-3 kill count.
God's worst soldier Edward Elric. Showed up as the youngest member of the Amestrian army, took millions of dollars from them, never followed a single order, helped dismantle their fascist regime, left with a lower kill count than he arrived with, then fucked off to go be a house-husband. Character of all time.
You know, when you said "negative-3 kill count," I, who haven't seen the anime, thought, "He resurrected 3 people?????" But I'm seeing here on the wiki that apparently resurrection in this anime is a terrible idea.
