His body, amidst the pain, felt almost...ethereal. Everything was vast and far out, like the darkening trenches of the sea. His soul soared up while his body was weighed down by his crystallized heart.
He was warm. Faintly, he heard cries. Neteyam almost let himself go completely--he wanted to reach out because those pleas belonged to his dear mother.
Why ever was she crying? Neteyam tried, he did, but he couldn't. He was shutting down like a slaughtered, sacrosanct animal.
Another soft thing was his way, like an inevitable hug he'd been waiting his whole life to receive.
Another mother was ready for him. Perhaps he was ready, too.
