What do you mean “chat” is now referring to ChatGPT and not twitch chat? What? What? What the fuck? No?
When I address chat I am speaking to a presumed Greek chorus of real human people shitposting on their lunch break, not a machine that devours lakes to covert electricity into slop.
Presenting...QUEEN MATTRESS! From just a sketch to reality. I can't believe it's done.
As promised, a process reblog for the final result!
A quick recap: I had finished piecing the daytime side, sewn together my two backing pieces, added scrap fabric along the perimeter of the bodice for easier mounting on the longarm machine, and handed it off to be quilted!
After just a few short days, Laura handed it back to me, fully quilted and
OH. MY. GOD.
IT WAS GORGEOUS!!!!
The original pantograph I chose was called Echoed Swirls, but unfortunately it was too large. At the scale we wanted, it would have been 22 inches tall, which was longer than the working bed size of the longarm machine. So we had to do a quick pivot to a new design. I ended up choosing Breeze. It maintained the 'Vincent van Gogh, Starry Night' look I was going for, while also fitting into the quilting 'zone.' We chose a gold metallic for the upper thread, and a stronger grey for the bobbin. Apparently, metallic threads require a lot of supervision, as they are prone to breaking, but Laura assured me that she had it handled. And boy, did she have it handled. I cannot praise her enough! Even with all of my weird requirements, she did a remarkable job :)
I feel like the pictures don't do it justice, since it's hard to capture the beautiful sparkle of the gold threads, but here are a few close up shots I took:
I then did the work of trimming and cleaning up the edges. All along the top where I had sewn scrap fabric to help with mounting onto the longarm, I had to painstakingly cut around the fabric with applique scissors and then tease out the scraps from beneath the quilting. Could I have just trimmed about half an inch away all around? Technically yes, but I was a bit worried about losing more seam allowance just in case I ended up needing that extra wiggle room for adjustments. Especially since quilting already has a slight shrinking effect on the fabric. I also had to seam rip the pocket slits open and tie off all the loose quilting threads. I re-drew the quilting lines that I had to rip out with a heat-erasing pen and back-stitched over them by hand, using the same gold thread that Laura was kind enough to give to me!
Once all my edges were trimmed, I began working on the watteau pleats. I pretty much just followed the instructions in The American Duchess Guide to Eighteenth Century Dressmaking by Lauren Stowell and Abby Cox. My pleats measured about 4 inches in length down the back, and each center pleat was about 2.5 inches. While laid flat, I pinned them, and then prick-stitched in place.
I then worked on top-stitching the other pieces of my dress that I had assumed were too small to bother with the longarm for. I used the image of the pantograph and scaled it to the same size that was used on the rest of the dress. Using my projector, I traced the image onto the sleeves, shoulder straps, and bodice fronts. I then followed the chalk marks on my sewing machine. I assembled the sleeves, and prepared the dress for my final fitting.
I don't have any pictures of this process, but it involved trying on the dress, and having my wonderful partner help to pin the skirt and sleeves in a flattering way. I then went back, and sewed them permanently to the bodice lining. The shoulder strap edges were turned under and sewn on last to cover the raw edges of the sleeve heads. Strips of fabric were sewn to the front skirt openings to cover the raw edges, which were likewise folded under. A strip of gold velvet was used for the hem facing. A silver star patch was appliqued on to cover an old tear in the backing fabric.
And with that, the dress was complete! All I had left to do was gather my accessories (including a pocket bag I made to wear under my panniers), and don my battle armor (a.k.a heavy, quilted dress).
When Shane starts eating candy again ("ONE PIECE, ILYA. VERY OCCASIONALLY!") Ilya finds out that Shane's starburst order of preference is yellow, orange, pink. He literally won't eat the red ones because they're too sweet. That just happens to be the opposite of Ilya's starburst order (red, pink, orange, fuck the yellow ones). He starts off teasing Shane about it because that's what he does but after that he fully believes it's a soulmate thing. Shane tries to point out that there are only 24 possible orders of which starburst you like best but Ilya is having none of it. "We were made for each other, Shane," he says on a plane one day as he carefully sorts a pack of starbursts into yellow and orange for Shane and pink and red for himself. Half the centaurs mention that they also hate yellow starbursts and Ilya declares that if anyone else starts giving starbursts to Shane he will kill them in front of their family.
I started thinking about Hollanov+starbursts because of this fic which is very fun and good and everyone should read it

when the off season starts ilya gives luca haas a ten dollar bill to "have fun this summer" to be a little shit and imply that he is a child that still gets pocket money but first of all luca is just so happy that he has an inside joke with the legend ilya rozanov but also a bunch of years later, when ilya has retired, luca is kinda sad bc this is his first ever end of the season without his captain making this dumb joke but then theres a postcard in his mailbox
on the front is ilya lounging on a sunbed, fruity drink in one hand, a cigarette in the other (luca notices that its unlit), with a rediculously big hat, dark sunglasses and a hawaiian shirt on and a grey-around-her-snout anya cuddled right beside him
he opens it and a crumpled ten dollar bill falls out and inside it just says "have fun this summer"
When the season starts luca sends a cheesy "enjoy retirement" card with a ten dollar bill in it, and a pamphlet reminding the public to check in with elderly family members, because pensioners are at higher risk in the winter. He signs it "let me know if you need help with bills this winter, I know the cost of living crisis is hitting the retired hard"
Luca Haas: I’ve never been on a Guy’s Night Out before. Was that last bit supposed to happen?
Shane Hollander: What bit was that?
Luca Haas: The bit where the bar was set on fire.
Ilya Rozanov: Not usually.
during his first year in ottawa, ilya casually mentions he’s going to get coffee with david after practice and the team is like “who tf is david?????” meanwhile luca haas, hollanov shipper supreme, starts losing his fucking mind
*Gasps in excitement.* "David Mark Hollander?? Seriously?" Luca asks in excitement.
"Is that his middle name? I didn't-... I didn't know that. How did you know that?" Ilya asks, confused, setting his waterbottle down with suspicion.
"Because!! He was McGill's best goalkeeper 4 years running." Luca says excitedly. "What's he like??"
"Uhm... he does lots of puzzles?"
I reblogged this last month, tagged it, and said “might as well see if it works.” I used this video as a reference to find all the forms that i needed (which is A LOT, especially if you’re a dependent) and sent them through the mail, not really allowing myself to hope.
dude.
$2,714 of medical debt from my top surgery - gone. im shaking this was such a weight on me for 2 years and it fucking worked. what the fuck.
This is huge. Sharing for my US friendos.
Hospitals like to hide these policies under a lot of successive links in obscure places, so if you don't see anything right away, keep looking! Get friends to help! Make it a scavenger hunt. A game where you're assassins sent to slit capitalism's throat
Damn.
I'm reblogging this.
Lapointe: You know that voice in your head that tells you the way you're playing is wrong?
Holmberg: You mean the one that sounds like Hollie?
Lapointe:
Holmberg:
Luca Haas: Yeah, that one.
Holmberg: Then yes.
tumblr users love reading. you literally stopped for this post just because it has words in it
this is one of my favorite bits about tumblr
the users seem to actually prefer text posts to anything else, and treat it as a chore to play a video especially with sound
Doesn't look like they need much help to get in each other's faces [insp.]

--Jacob Tierney THIS IS AN AUTISTIC SUB SHANE HOLLANDER HOUSEHOLD AND WE THANK JACOB FOR GIVING US OUR SWORDS TO FIGHT AND DIE ON THIS HILL.
Ilya coming home to Shane being overstimulated and agitated and he thinks it's best to leave him alone mostly so he goes off and does his own thing and eventually ends up on the couch playing a video game and Shane comes out of nowhere, noise canceling headphones on and hobby of the day in hand (book, knitting, switch, coloring, could be basically anything) and sits next to him which Ilya thinks is really sweet and then Shane very softly asks "are you avoiding me because I'm being weird and quiet again" and Ilya sees his whole life flash before his eyes, every mistake he's ever made, mostly this specific one, and rapidly starts explaining himself and Shane ultimately finds it sweet just nods and stays were he is, doing his thing now with a little smile on his face
the SECOND Ilya learns the term parallel play its over for everyone. I will die. from happiness but i'll still be dead
Ilya starts intentionally just being around Shane while he's doing things (cooking, yoga, anything really) and Shane is confused but also likes spending time with Ilya no matter what they're doing so he doesn't mention it. Shane doesn't notice at first but he gets more done and quicker when Ilya is there. But then he does notice and brings it up one night like:
Shane: "You know, whenever you're around while I'm [insert activity here] I always get it done quicker.
Ilya: "Ah, so my strategy is working."
Shane: "What?"
Ilya: [explains the concept of body-doubling/parallel play and how he'd been doing it on purpose to see if it'd help Shane]
Shane: "... I need you to fuck me right now."
And they have hot and sweaty gay sex :D
(i think in canon Shane would just be anxious that there was something wrong with Ilya that he just Wasn't Talking About but this is my little fantasy world where nothing is wrong ever so don't talk to me about it.)
