Kyiv-based artist Alexey Kondakov uses surrealistic documentary photography to superimpose figures from classical artwork into everyday scenes of modern life. He is renowned for his Photoshopped collage series in which Kyiv, Ukraine served as the backdrop for characters from old world masterpieces. The artist merges the past and the present, showing with a deft eye how classical figures fit seamlessly into contemporary situations that, in themselves, are timeless.
I don't really see these being talked about remotely enough, at least proportionally to how funny they are to me, but my absolute favorite piece/type of Ancient Greek art has to be the drinking cups with eyes that stare at you.
Probably the most well-known, Dionysus Cup by Exekias, 540-530 BCE.
That's not pottery, that's a little guy.
A similar one from approximately 520 BCE.
Dated 525-500 BCE, from a Boston museum. This one just looks sad. I unironically want this in my house.
I would not be tricked by the kelpie. I would form a special bond with it. By feeding it oats and the occasional carrot. It would learn to trust that i am not a threat to it at all and will not kill it.
I will ride my noble steed into battle
hey did you know??? that if you stop stretching and maintaining mobility in your body then it goes away?? things get tight and you can't move the way that you used to??? and when you decide to try getting a stretch routine going that the first week fucking sucks because you keep going 'damn i used to be able to do this no problem' and then you have to switch gears and be kind to yourself and just focus on getting better from here instead of berating yourself for dropping the good habits in the first place??? and your body never stops aging so you gotta keep taking care of it and sometimes you gotta take care of it extra in certain areas because of things that happened when you were younger and it's boring and sometimes hurts but it's so necessary???
i am yelling this at myself right now i am going through An Experience (trying to get into a routine of body maintenance again for my physical and mental health)
oh, Sisyphus! i got you
I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth
In architecture, this is a concept of adding mystery to a space. People inherently want to discover the spaces in a building. When they explained it to my class, they said there’s a fine line between fun, interesting mystery and “women don’t feel safe walking through the space” mystery. But retweet. I want more mystery in modern buildings.
I live for a confusing and illogical floor plan. Give me stairs that go nowhere pretty please
you know how sometimes you see a shape from a distance and hope it's a cat or other small pettable animal. but it turns out to be just a plastic bag or something. well that's sort of what just happened to me, except for some reason i decided it must be a gargoyle statue someone had decided to abandon on the side of the road. so i think i may have just had a truly unique human experience.

i don't want a boyfriend i want someone with whom i get dragged to hell with and if asked 'was it worth it? would you do it again?" he must reply with "put me back in it, i would do it again; if i could hold you for a minute, i'd go through it again. i would still be surprised if i could find you, darling, in any life."
this whole ouroboros thing keeps coming back to bite me in the ass
That unearth was so unreal it’s been 5 months and I’m still not fucking over it
Hozier is so crazy like who writes the words:
“this life lived mostly underground
Unknowing either sight nor sound
‘Til reaching up for sunlight, just to be ripped out by the stem
Sensing only now it’s dying
Drying out, then drowning blindly, blooming forth its every color in the moments it has left
To share this space with simple living things, infinitely suffering, but fighting off, like all creation, the absence of itself.”
ONLY TO FOLLOW IT IMMEDIATELY WITH “but AnYwAYs-”
