Men aren’t allowed to be attracted to fictional characters either though.

Men are called pedos, cringe, future rapists, future shooters, simps, pigs, etc for being attracted to fictional women all the time. Especially if they’re from Japanese media.

Except here, it’s believed a man attracted to fiction hurts others, a woman attracted to fiction hurts herself.

Either way there’s this sick belief that fiction turns people into creeps or victims of creeps when that’s simply not true.

There's this weird tendency among fandom types where they'll take a character, and insist that they are fans of them, before changing their design, age, pronouns, backstory, blood type, species, hometown, favorite color, zodiac sign, medical history, and every other facet of their being.

They will then violently insist that this version is superior to the canon one and act like they "fixed" them and it's like. Buddy that's not the same character anymore. That's just your own oc commiting identity fraud. Like. I get the desire to experiment with different interpretations of a story. But first of all it's okay to just make an original character if that's what you really want to do. And second of all, are you even really a fan of the character you "fixed" if they're a completely different person afterwards?

Like. Idk dude for somebody who claims to be a fan you sure don't seem to like them as they are :/

I'm sort of a mix of "people are gonna do what they want to do" with the character and make changes to them. But I do see a far amount(not many) where I can't tell who that character is suppose to be until i read the tags.

In a way, I think if you still somewhat attached to what the writers were going for, but felt like they fumbled somewhere then yeah you might eventually being changing something about the character to fit more closely to what the person thinks they should be.

Like if I love the character and their dynamic with other characters, but you feel like this aspect of their backstory doesn't line up with who they are at current. Or if the in-canon events don't line up the why you think they should.

I believe messing around with what a character is can be fun and interesting as a way to explore what a person likes and dislike about the thing they like, but I can agree that by a certain point if the character starts to become unrecognizable that might as well be a different character. It really depends from fan to fan.

it isn't law yet, however. so don't freak out, yet. or at all because the best thing you can do is be calm. it still has to pass senate and that's a fact.

keep calling your reps... especially the ones who have voted specifically for the kids act + kosa. reminder that these aren't the only bad bills they're passing. i forget all of them (since they total as 19, i believe) but the screen act and appstore accountability act are especially alarming.

call, email, fax, and write to your senators! resources are right down below as usual for easy access! (badinternetbills provides you an email script and the names of senators. it's super easy, anyone can do it with just a few clicks. if you don't feel like calling you can wait until after hours and leave a voicemail. you can always write a letter, but i'd advise you do that immediately so it's seen as soon as possible!

and if you can't do any of those, it's okay. just keep spreading the word and not only on tumblr. make videos to post online and persuade family into contacting local congress as well (but be careful with who you tell, because they might just be in favor of these bills)

Fictional characters are not real victims and anyone who uses fiction to prey on others is a predator. The line between fiction and reality is crossed when children get involved, including underaged voice actors, underaged live-action actors, and underaged fans who post in adult-only spaces.

This phrase has already entered my vocabulary re: media criticism where like. The viewer has a concrete view of what they expect a story to be based on the tropes and cliches they're used to seeing together, and when that doesn't happen, they judge it as a failed depiction of what they assumed it was going to be instead of judging it as what it actually is.

"This show is problematic because the hero didn't kill the villain at the end": When does he steal the bread?

"These two characters who were close friends throughout the series don't kiss at the end! What the fuck?": When does he steal the bread?

"This feels like it's missing a conclusion! Like, the protagonist does bad stuff and because of a critical decision he makes as a result of his major character flaws, meets tragedy in the end! Where's the part where he learns better and brings is love back from the dead and becomes a good guy and gets a happy ending?": When does he steal the fucking bread??
