theyâre asking you to disclose if youâre transgender. legally, they canât ask or consider someoneâs gender in hiring someone, so they get around it by giving you the option of telling them yourself. if you âvolunteerâ the information, thatâs legal.
its like when they try to figure out if youâre poor by asking if you have âreliable transportation,â hoping that ppl will explain that they dont have a car without actually being asked. things like that.
its a scummy thing to do, especially in this case where theyre presenting it like a âdiversityâ thing.
It all started when Sergeant Eric Allen found posters on the walls of inmate Susie Chavezâs jail cell inside Metropolitan Detention Center in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. A disturbing video released Wednesday shows Allen, who is in charge of training other jailers on use-of-force, instructing another guard to put Chavez in a wrist-lock because she wouldnât [âŚ]
The video shows a female jailer pull Chavez, the tiny female inmate, up from the ground by her hair.
âWhatâs your name?â Chavez demanded.
It only takes a second for another male officer standing nearby to pull out a stun gun, tasering Chavez, apparently for asking for the female jailerâs name.
As Chavez falls to the ground from being tasered, Sgt. Allen says coldly, âstop resisting.â
âI wasnât.â
âYes ⌠you were,â added allen, slightly joyed.
âStay right there. Donât move,â Allen told Chavez, hovering over her.
Chavez begins crying, and sobbing out in pain, apparently from being tasered by the male jailer after asking for the female jailerâs name.
âI need you to be quiet. Quiet!â yells Allen. âI need you to stay there until weâre done.
Chavez continues to call out in pain, seemingly hoping for one of the other officers to stand up for her.
But that never happens.
Sgt. Allen then instructs, âPut her in a wrist lock, and twist her wrist until she shuts up and stops crying.â
Allen then walks inside of a room, although the video does not show him since itâs recorded from the perspective of his body cam.
Chavez begins asking the female officer her name, which she never responds to.
Obeying every command, the male jailer and the female jailer hold Chavez down and administer a wrist-lock.
âAh, fuck!â Chavez screams out.
âBe quiet,â the female jailer attempts to hush the woman.
âYouâre going to break my fucking wrist!â Chavez shouts. âThat fucking hurts!â
âBe quiet! Be quiet! Be quiet!â
Video then shows the female jailer holding Chavez in a wrist lock saying, âlift your head up.â
âThat fucking hurts!â
Chavez Screams out in pain, âyouâre going to break my fucking wrist, bitch!â
Sgt. Allen then tells Chavez to stop crying, so she can be taken to medical.
As sheâs being taken down the jailâs corridor, Chavez continues crying, protesting the officers who assaulted her.
âStop. Stop. Stop,â Allen repeats, attempting to quell the grieving motherâs crying.
âYouâre going to get maced,â he humors himself. âYouâre doing it now.â
âIf you donât stop crying, Iâm going to have to mace you.â
âIâm gonna mace her here in a second. Last warning.â
Chavez then pauses in the hallway with her head on the hand railing, and begins crying in grief.
âWe need you to be quiet,â the female jailer tells the grieving woman.
âShe wonât shut up. You wonât shut up, like aâŚâ
âWeâre not trying to hurt you,â the female jailer assured Chavez. âWeâre just here to escort you to medical.â
âYeah, you are, youâre using excessive force.â
âNow youâre getting into stuff where weâre going to hurt you over. You need to be quiet.â
A few seconds go by before the condescending jailer quips again.
âJust like you are right now.â
Chavez then bangs her head on the floor at which point she is maced.
After she begins drooling, reacting to the mace, a mask is placed over her head to prevent her from spitting.
If you treat another human being like this, YOUâRE the fucking criminal.
I donât know how they could face their friends and neighbors knowing this video is out there.
Any decent human being can not watch that and not have their stomach turn. Still wondering why after 8 months the DA hasnât charged the people involved with this yet. Iâm also surprised this hasnât been on any national news media yet.
There really needs to be harsher punishments for people that abuse their authority over people in their care.
I HONESTLY COULDNT EVEN WATCH THIS. THE SYSTEM IS TRASH AND THE PEOPLE WHO GO ALONG WITH FUCKSHIT LIKE THIS ALL DESERVE TO DIE I COULDNT EVEN WATCH THIS IT MAKES ME SICK
i get that tumblr is filled with unattributed images but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that this particular picture has been removed from its (very significant) original context. this is from an installation by aida sehoviÄ that commemorates the bosnian genocide. it was exhibited in sarajevo in 2004, with every cup corresponding to a victim of the genocide identified and buried that year. this context is important
Fun fact! The reason we donât see hot pink and turquoise in the modern flag is literally due to money and accessibility! Back when these were being hand dyed, the dyes for pink and teal were the most expensive. To make the flag easier for everyone to be able to afford (or make on their own), pink and teal were excluded, and their meaning is someoneâs associated with the color below it now. Red now meaning sexuality and life, blue meaning magic and harmony.
to break your worst patterns, take a breather to assess yourself â and how deliberate you are being in allocating your time and energy
identify the imbalances in your life
take five minutes every day to think about what you choose to do. Not just what you âhaveâ to do
keep a detailed, running âto-doâ list and a well-maintained calendar
define and rank your priorities
focus on whatâs been getting short shrift â and bump those priorities up a notch or three.
if you love travel, for example, but are constantly chained to your desk, donât ignore your yearnings
narrow down and write out your three to five very top priorities, in orderÂ
keep in mind that it is better to balance a few important responsibilities well than a bunch of more trivial ones poorly
by establishing concrete, realistic goals, youâll make it easier to commit to lasting change.
take control of your time
get ahead on life chores, like scheduling doctors appointments and picking up dry cleaning, by front-loading tasks to weekdays and weeknights
or try to knock out your most pressing duties early on Saturday, to clear the way for a stress-free Sunday
always stuck late at the office? every morning, set a specific time you plan to close up shop for the night, and stick to it
start winding down and finish last-minute tasks at least 20 minutes before your goal time.
consider overhauling any moments in your day that go wasted.
for example, instead of zoning (or stressing) out during your commute, make that time do double duty by using it to reply to long-neglected work emails.
use downtime on the bus or while you are stuck in traffic to think about what recipe youâll use to cook a nice dinner for someone you care about
or you might consider asking your manager about your companyâs policy on remote work
rest, and rest some more
breaks are necessary.Â
getting snippy with coworkers, feeling apathetic or losing sleep are all signs you may need to take a mental health day.
if itâs chores that are weighing on you, donât be afraid to communicate clearly with your partner or roommate, and lean on him or her for help.
and for those who truly canât spare time for a day off work, donât underestimate the power of a short mental break
one great way to center yourself during a crazy work day is to hit the pause button.Â
take a 10-minute walk⌠fresh air is good for the brain and the soul
carve out at least one activity â whether a relaxing massage or a quick but delicious meal â that youâre actually looking forward to every day
lastly, selectively satisfice
