Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour. 1 tablespoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon salt. 1 cup warm water. 1 lb ground beef or choice of protein. 1 packet taco seasoning mix. 1 cup shredded lettuce. 1 cup diced tomatoes. 1/2 cup diced onions. 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. 1/4 cup sour cream. 1/4 cup salsa. Vegetable oil for frying.
Instructions: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Slowly add the warm water and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it becomes smooth. Divide the dough into small balls and flatten each ball into a round disc about 1/4 inch thick. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place the flattened dough into the hot oil and fry until it puffs up and turns golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels. In a separate pan, cook the ground beef or protein of your choice over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat, then add the taco seasoning mix and water according to package instructions. Simmer until the mixture thickens. To assemble the fry bread tacos, place a piece of fried bread on a plate. Top with a spoonful of the seasoned ground beef, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced onions, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Fold the fry bread in half like a taco and serve hot.
