Bilbo: Fight me!
Thorin, standing behind him with a giant sword, softly shaking his head and mouthing: Do not.
This wins the internet.
Thorin + majestic acrobatic moves
#I’m yelling bc those are hella acrobatic moves#but also no joke actively suicidal moves#I’ll never shut up about how awesome thorin was inside erebor#how he knew exactly what to do and came up with this batshit insane plan in a matter of minutes#and we laugh about ‘welcome to jackass’ thorin pouring molten gold on a dragon#but then again if you think about it it’s kind of heartbreaking#here he is sommersaulting with fire behind him and riding a wheelbarrow in molten lava#and facing off a dragon up close#he’s willing to do literally anything to drive smaug away#’I will not die like this - cowering; clawing for breath’#but I’m p sure he’s perfectly willing to die fighting#look at him he’s like rrrRRAAGHH I DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING ANYMORE COME AND GET ME#look at this stupid determined idiot#I love him so much
a thing got me thinking about bilbo and thorin the other day. you know there are people who act sweet and lovely when they are concerned about you and then there are people who don’t handle emotions well who get all annoyed despite themselves (you’re ill? why the fuck didn’t you say? you should’ve said earlier! do you want tea? what do you mean you don’t, you need something hot, shut up and drink your tea. do you need anything else? here take this fucking blanket, and another one, and if you aren’t feeling better tomorrow i swear to god…)
and i thought obviously, obviously, bilbo is the second type. the whole of botfa he spends making concerned noises and looking like he’s on the verge of a (you cannot go to war) tantrum. so that then lead me to the thought - is thorin the 1st type then (since they are so - not different but - complementary in a lot of ways)? then i remembered the way thorin snapped at bilbo after saving him in the misty mountains. nah, classic case of ‘you made me worry about you and i can’t admit it so you’ll pay for that’. clearly he’s also type 2…
but…
still that didn’t make sense. they have to be unlike each other in this, it’s one of those fields where their experiences have been so vastly different (bilbo being a loner and thorin having a whole nation under his wing), no way they’ve developed the same emotional reaction. plus thorin actually seems to handle his feelings quite well compared to bilbo (by at least acknowledging them). it really shows how much of a repressed mess bilbo’s emotions are.
so i started sifting through their moments of emotional distress - bilbo being polite af to dwarves in bag end, apologizing to bofur in the caves, then mirkwood and the not so polite “stay where you are”, and later the even more exasperated “you MUST trust me”, “he doesn’t sleep, he barely eats”, crescendo-ing in “you CANNOT go to war!” and thorin - from “he’s been lost ever since he left home” and “what were you doing? you nearly got yourself killed!” to “bilbo! where is the hobbit?!” and then the times he’s worried about others or with others around - balin in bag end, kili in laketown, dwalin pretty much constantly
and i saw that, like many things in life, the two types are not a binary but a scale, and bilbo and thorin start from different ends and go through it in opposite directions. i.e. the more thorin knows you the more he is concerned with not hurting your feelings, the more bilbo knows you the more your feelings can go fuck themselves. in other words, thorin gets more and more at ease with emotions as he grows to know a person, and bilbo - oh, bilbo… all his ingrained politeness starts flaking off the moment he actually grows to care
in short, this proves yet again: thorin is uncomfortable with strangers, but very comfortable in love. bilbo is comfortable with strangers because strangers are much safer, but once someone gets a big enough place in his heart he just loses it. it’s not so much that he’s comfortable enough to take off the polite mask but that he is scared and angry because he feels he is powerless where it really matters. he cares about everything and everyone, and yet, when it’s too deep he can barely hold himself together, he starts feeling ridiculous and wrung out, because caring is hard. caring hurts a lot.
dean’s face journey when cas saves them in tmwwbk and points out the obvious in the typical adorable cas way and dean doesn’t know he’s betrayed them yet... one more for the list of times he just has to look away and hide his smile because he’s too fond... i’m gonna be sick this is too much to look at.
A little calm 🙏
what is the point of this show if bucky doesn’t fall off of something really high and then sam swoops and catches him? symbolic mutual healing. anyway
LMAO @ Steve’s face when he realizes Bucky isn’t going to leave without him so he’s gotta do some dumb shit so they both survive
Happy New Year (x)
imagine if spn had continuity. the other day someone in the tags of one of my posts said that the winchester's should just. occasionally run into churches where the stained glass has been replaced with cas bc he did crimes there in meet the new boss. i think that would slap
also i think cas remembers all the churches he did crimes in and refuses to go near them partly for like oh god i did crimes reasons but mostly to avoid "hey aren't you the guy from the stained glass." how many people across the us know castiel's face. is this ever inconvenient. is he ever hunted by the government
did anyone like. believe him??? like he was actually doing 'miracles' for want of a better word are there godstiel converts. imagine this guy appears from nowhere & he’s claiming to be god & he’s actually Doing Shit so you believe him then he disappears entirely but you don’t lose faith and then like several years later you see him fucking. buying groceries. he’s holding hands with a guy you swear you recognise then when you’re telling the story to a friend later you suddenly place him as that fucking serial killer from that one 'no seriously the fuck is up with these ones' true crime doc
certain corners of the internet in spn!verse must be BATSHIT
dean winchester is the ethereal bisexual that barack obama tried and failed to pick up with foucault
this is canon now
Supernatural had the opportunity to do something great. To send a message of love and validation to a whole community. Not only to the part of the community that liked their show, but to all of us. But instead they decided to pander to the people, who never had to fight for their representation.
I support #TheySilencedYou, #TheySilencedThem and #TheyWillNeverSilenceUs and I'm in awe of all of you. Of your eloquence, passion, coordination and decisiveness. And I feel like your message goes beyond this particular TV show and the CW.
It's about protesting a pattern of disrespect towards otherness in Mainstream Media. It's about demanding meaningful, unmistakably queer representation, that enables discourse and furthers understanding in a heterogenic Audience. It's about asking Networks to not only hire diverse staff but to also give them the freedom to tell their stories the way they want to. It's about telling creators to own up to the inherent messages they leave us with in the end.
And that's inspiring and should be celebrated.
Stories matter.
