more than anything i want a world where a trans girl realizing she is a trans girl faces zero fear from that realization and subsequent coming out. Where she can say "Oh sweet, I can just be a girl? can i ask if you’ve also observed a lot of men without strong reading comprehension skills? i notice a lot of women cautioning other women against sending long paragraphs explaining their feelings and frustrations to their romantic interests because a lot of men straight up can’t comprehend and internalize what they’re reading. if this is something you’ve also noticed, what do you think accounts for the disparity? is it about reading comprehension or is it about men in general having no interest in understanding women’s points of view, especially as it pertains to their shortcomings? i really do appreciate your sensitive thoughts in regards to the literacy crisis — i think it is difficult for me to watch men treat women so dismissively when they have to be coddled in everyday life because their communication and literacy skills are so below average. does this make sense

lol i was thinking about this ask when i realized that i have a couple friends who are men who i talk to like once a month. and other than that. i don't really interact with men all that much, especially on a deep personal level. waow #solucky

anyway i talked to a subject matter expert (my one straight friend with recent dating experience) and we basically concluded that this is not a reading comprehension issue and the effort to frame it as such (like i've seen on tiktok et al) is a way of letting men dodge accountability for treating the women in their lives like shit.

my friend was telling me about her ex who is basically allergic to talking about her feelings whether in person or over call or over text. and she had to go through that whole process of bringing up concerns super gradually as to not scare him off, especially not sending walls of text like you mentioned. but he had no problem reading 500+ page scifi books all the time. so at least in that case it was obviously not a literacy issue and i suspect that extends to men in general
