Something worth mentioning is that this isn't necessarily a case of Disney and Pixar taking a dive in quality so much as it is the other films finally getting a fair shot.

You know why those four films won? Because the Academy actually watched them.

Since the Best Animated Feature category has existed it's been a bit of an open secret that films were voted on based on name recognition, or more likely, the film they'd actually seen that year. Voters weren't required to see all the films voted on until Oscars 26, and so if there is one movie the 50-something voters are most likely to see it's the popular Disney movie they saw with their kids. Sorry Wolfwalkers, we only had time to stream Soul this year.

Though it also helps that the competition has been weaker and first two winners are from directors who are already esteemed and previous winners, the unheated of indie Flow is a pretty clear signal that they actually watch the movies now.
