Not too many bands can lay credible claim to releasing their best album after some 17 years at the musical coalface, but Brisbane-bred indie rockers Dollar Bar now find themselves in that enviable position…
Wayne & Shuster by Dollar Bar. Ode to 6pm television on ABC TV in Australia in the 1980s. Obviously a nod to the great Canadian comedy duo Wayne & Shuster in there as well.

Photo by Brad MarsellosBrisbane's Dollar Bar are about to dish up their third album of heartfelt indie-rock. Titled 'Hot Ones', and bursting at the seams with 16 flashes of lo-fi pop in the vein of Guided By Voices and Pavement, the latter of whom Dollar Bar shares a special relationship with, as guitarist and vocalist Chris Yates touches on in this week's Centre Sound.

7 track album The first Dollar Bar EP, released in the year 2000. We did a bunch of stuff on 4 track and then did some overdubs with our mate Bryce Moorhead. A deadset legend. Brendan Rosen took the cover photo on a trip to Japan, and did the colour treatment himself with the actual negative as I recall. It was definitely the days before digital cameras were widespread or any good.

If you're not excited for Dollar Bar's upcoming album, then I will personally make my way over to your abode, and slap some sense into you. Dollar Bar are a shining, and criminally underrated light...

It’s a magnificent spring day outside and a solid crowd has turned out at Brisbane Powerhouse’s Turbine Platform for some free family entertainment, and they get that in spades from the outset when a sartorially-elegant…
