concord is a western australian fantasy weekender larp set in the world of esterra. it features an alliance of various realms, heroes coming together for the betterment of those it protects. some are fighters, some politicians, some priests or mages, some merchants, and some surgeons and menders.

this blog currently follows doctor feyruz el'andash (they/them), an andashi surgeon working with the passage field hospital. feyruz has been a surgeon for over a decade, and had attended game hen and a medical seminar prior, but G10 was their first time at passage.

this is not an in-character blog, and it may feature aesthetic posts on occasion, as well as updates on events after they've been attended and commentary on the situation/winds/what's happening online. it may also delve into medical topics more generally, as they are relevant (though there won't be irl pictures of surgery), but such things will be tagged.

real medical lesson of the day: idiopathic (and its synonyms)!

the word "idiopathic" is derived from the greek ἴδιος/idios, meaning "of one's own," and πάθος/pathos, which refers to suffering and disease. combined, it can be interpreted as "a disease of one's own." other words formed of these roots include words like "idiosyncrasy" and "neuropathic."

in medicine, an idiopathic condition is one for which the cause is currently unknown or unidentified. in some instances, a large percentage of cases of a specific condition will have a known cause, such as medicine side effects or specific injuries, but a smaller percentage of cases present without a readily-apparent cause. these are partially idiopathic conditions. in other instances, the condition as a whole is poorly understood, and the cause for all cases is unknown. these are wholly idiopathic conditions.

synonyms include: essential, primary (to distinguish from secondary conditions, which are caused by other conditions), agnogenic, and cryptogenic.

examples of disorders that are considered partially or wholly idiopathic include: idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, idiopathic chronic fatigue, essential tremor, primary biliary cholangitis, and cryptogenic epilepsy.

is it relevant to PFH: I Hope Not. I hope we can figure out exactly where everyone's injuries and diseases originate. feyruz has not personally treated anyone yet who hasn't experienced a very obvious cause or potential cause.

had another concord dream. in it, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to training or not, but I stuck around and eventually got my kit on. I was made privy to a secret, and I had 16 "food" (dream resource) which was apparently huge for me. I was told that if I submitted that much, or even 2/3rds as much, to tithe this summit I'd be hailed as a hero, especially considering What Was Coming (the secret).
