I will always reblog this
still remember how revolutionary this ad felt 10 years ago
excuse me but it still feels revolutionary
Keep reblogging until it feels normal everywhere.
For context: this came out in 2011 in Australia. Same-sex marriage would not be legalized until December 2017.
It was only legalized in 8 US states (the 8th only a few months before), and wouldn’t be legalized nation-wide until 2015.
It was only legal in TEN COUNTRIES in 2011. We wouldn’t hit 20 countries until 2017. (Australia was 23rd)
As of today (April 14, 2026), I believe only 38 countries have fully legalized same-sex marriage. Out of somewhere around 200 countries in the world. That’s only ~19% of countries.
This is still revolutionary.
Imma be honest, I think when people say, "why hasn't the US had a revolution yet," they mostly have no idea how bad everyday life got for people before revolutions have actually happened.
Most of us are struggling, but alive. Most of us are housed and fed, most of the time. We're very focused on the "alive" part.
Once that becomes not possible for enough people, that's when violent revolution starts happening.
okay heres the thing about why being, as a general rule, kind, is politically expedient. people are not primed to be able to
reflect critically on a profound level about themselves and their actions and beliefs and the world they live in
be increasingly open to complexity, nuance, and ambiguity
be open to major change in general
when they feel a sense of hostility. these are things that are most easily and safely done in a supportive and safe environment. & these are also things that are pretty crucial for being able to productively change your worldview.
it suckkkkssss because people are annoying and hateful and hypocritical and infuriating. and yet pressure does not always make diamonds. if you want people to be more leftist than leftist spaces and communities and the relationships people have with these ideas needs to be one which does, foundationally, make people feel seen and heard and encourages them to buy in to the group emotionally and credally.
obligatory disclaimer this is not saying tolerate misogyny racism transphobia genocide denial conspiracy theories etc etc or even to water down leftism to appeal to whoever. its about presenting these ideas in a manner and an environment that is encouraging people to drop their walls and open their mind. you can lead a horse to water and it may choose to drink, but if you try to drag it there or beat it in that direction, it probably won't. or it will take a much longer time and be a lot more stressful for everyone.
so yeah sometimes being nice and compassionate and seeking understanding is in fact the most politically crucial thing to do. and some people are definitely more emotionally / mentally equipped to engage in that work than others! but idk i think if your model of spreading leftism involves a lot of telling people to kill themselves. it may suck ass i fear
Babies are socially accepted parasites.
When u read Ayn Rand 1 time
They’re not a parasite, they’re a potential investment
When you read Ayn Rand a dozen times

I’d like to point out that this kitten is trying to entice the dog into wrestling. As it would with other kittens/cats. That feinting and then leaping back sideways? That’s an invitation to tackle. Other kittens would understand this body language.
This dog does not understand which is probably for the best, because this kitten clearly does not understand the concept of ‘weight class’
celestia is such a funny character like she's constantly manipulating twilight and friends to do shit instead of just asking and you could arguably frame that as being bc she's a "god" and pushing fate to her design or whatever, except that she engages with the group like a normal and relatable person, which makes it more like villainous machinations, except 90% of this manipulation goes towards things like "I don't want my party to be boring shit again. put my little country girl blorbos in there with zero prep so they fuck it up bad"
you think you've fucked anything up around princess celestia and she's like heh. no worries. all according to keikaku
Celestia instantly makes more sense as a character when you ignore the princess stuff and remember that she's a 1000+ years old wizard. Of course she does manipulative trickster stuff to teach moral lessons and/or cause chaos to amuse herself, that's classic wizard behavior. Of course sometimes she's actually socially awkward and bad at personal relationships and has bad ideas that she thought were good that result in her eating shit embarrassing style, that's classic wizard behavior. Of course she lets the aristocrats and nobles run around being assholes she's still running on wizard advisor programming, she's basically trying to merlin the entire upper class of equestria instead of just a king and some knights. "Yeah uuhhh we'll release the incarnation of chaos himself from his ancient prison because we think this shy girl can be friends with him", terrible plan if you're thinking like a ruler, amazing plan if you're thinking like a wizard. Just look at Canterlot 'Castle' for five seconds and ask yourself if that's in any way a castle. No. Wizard tower, yes. Wizard.
You are so right actually
While I'm talking about Zenos and his relationship to the WoL, one other thing I'll say is that if you are going to point to specific optional questlines as evidence of things that are Universally True of the Warrior of Light, then all optional content is fair game for counterarguments. If Dark Knight gets to say something profound about what it is to be the Warrior of Light (and I don't deny that it does) then White Mage does too, and the very first Conjurer quest, for example, involves the mentor character addressing the WoL's potential reticence to take life. That's just as canon as anything in the Dark Knight quests, in that both are paths the Warrior of Light may take and experiences that may ring true to the character. Not every questline portrays the WoL as enjoying violence inherently and there is room to interpret their relationship to violence in different ways without, I think, diverging much if at all from the WoL as written. We are all to some extent cherry-picking the content that resonates with our character the most, and I think that's worth keeping in mind when discussing the fundamental nature of the Warrior of Light.
With regard to Zenos I think what sets the WoL apart is their engagement with the world and with other people, which leaves a lot of room for different motives and outlooks on the world.
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
Shakespeare is like this
Every time I see a Van Gogh that’s not one of his better known pieces it absolutely blows me away
Have you seen this shit my liege? smh unreal
hudson williams will forever be the first person in history to ever accept a major acting award by noting that the character he portrays loves getting fucked in the ass. nobody can take that from him
jonathan's speech
listen i love HR as much as the next gay and Hudson's speech was great but we can't be rewriting gay history like this on the very first day of pride month 💀
So many political posts I hate boil down to "I don't want to organize and work with people I hate and fight for small, incremental victories, I just want to start a revolution where everyone magically becomes an automaton who acts exactly the way I think they should act"
Like damn man, I want that too. Unfortunately I live in reality though so we're stuck with the first thing.
"Modern movements are too fractured, too aimless, with too much infighting and corruption among the leadership. What we need is a revolution, which famously never have any issues with those things" okay then. Good luck I guess
This whole line of thinking comes down to "the current systems and leadership are bad. What we need is a fresh start with only people who are good, and then all the systems will be good". Which is simply not how anything has ever worked!
"We don't have enough people, funding, and power to bring about changes through elections! We have to do an armed revolution instead which thankfully doesn't require people, funding, or power to pull off."
