[Slamming fists on table] TIME STONES! TIME STONES!
This was pretty much my first thought when Amy showed up. I know it probably won't happen but wow it sure is convenient that the game Amy debuted in was the one with the magic rocks that control spacetime...
(I also just like the idea that Stone is significantly more effective than Robotnik and when sufficiently motivated to work against Sonic and gang, he just... wins. Good thing for them then that he wasn't particularly interested in those time powers beyond using them for a Resurreggtion)
My thought process here was that this was only possible because Stone had the exact time and position of Eggman's death down to the millisecond thanks to the livestream, and he wouldn't have been able to do this without that information. So no bringing back Maria, sorry Shadow 😔
Also sorry for putting you in a glue trap Sonic I sure hope that washes out
You know what I think would hurt really bad be really fun? If every time Immortal!Robert dies, he comes back in little bits and pieces. The time it takes for everything to kick back on after he regains consciousness varies—sometimes it’s so quick that he’s up and fighting again without blinking, and sometimes it’s ten minutes. Once, it was the longest half-hour of his life. But everything comes back on in more or less the same order. Picture it:
His hearing is always the first sense to come back. That never changes.
The first thing he hears is the weeping. Someone’s sobbing, another person’s whimpering softly, someone else is cursing bitterly. There’s a lot of sniffling.
“Chad.” Prism’s voice, hoarse and wet. The rest of the team must have arrived some time after he was already dead. “You gotta let them take him, baby. He’s gone.”
“Fuck off!” Flambae snarls right next to Robert’s ear. If his muscles were working, he would’ve jumped.
Flambae was holding Robert’s hand when he died. Robert remembers his eyes, wide and panicked, frantically scanning the distance for help before finally locking onto Robert’s. Robert hated having to watch it sink in—the knowledge that help wouldn’t come quick enough, that it was going to be too late.
“He told me to wait,” Flambae continues, his voice brittle and tight, “so that’s what I’m fucking doing.”
Ah, that’s right. Robert didn’t actually manage to get much out—talking was incredibly difficult at the time—but he remembers trying to beg Flambae to wait for him to wake up again. He didn’t want to come back in a morgue and have to track them all down to tell them he wasn’t really dead. It's much better to do it with all of them gathered in one place.
As much as his instincts revolt at the idea of anyone else knowing his oldest secret, it’s inevitable now. Robert can't just die and then show up for work in the morning alive. And besides, hearing them now—Waterboy crying, Visi cursing viciously, Prism’s voice shaking—he finds himself wishing he’d just bitten the bullet and told them before.
Next is his eyesight, although sometimes it’s hard to tell exactly when it comes back if he happened to die with his eyes closed.
He must have died with his eyes open this time. He thinks he can vaguely remember turning them to the sky at the last possible moment, so Flambae wouldn’t have to watch the light leave them. A last minute apology for making him witness Robert's death.
Though he can’t move or focus his eyes yet, Robert can see his team well enough. He can’t really look at any one of them, but he can tell where they are and roughly what they’re doing.
Sonar is in Mega Bat form, his giant body hunched over and sniffling beside Malevola, who’s staring at the ground. Robert can't see her face well enough to tell what her expression looks like.
He can’t see Visi at all, only the empty space Golem’s hands are closed around, probably keeping her from running away to do something stupid. After a moment, she flickers back into view, red-faced and breathing heavily. She picks back up cursing a blue streak, but this time her voice breaks on the word, 'asshole.'
Waterboy’s sitting on the ground, head down and crying heart wrenchingly. Punch Up is standing next to him, a hand on his shoulder. Coupé guards them, so incredibly still that Robert has a hard time picking her out from the dark canvas of the sky behind her. The sun had just begun to set when Robert drifted off.
They’re all gathered a good couple meters away, and Robert can’t figure out why until he sees the black scorch marks on the ground, arching out from Robert’s body in a still smoking semi-circle. He sees orange and black in the corner of his eye and realizes that the scorch marks must have been Flambae’s doing.
The reason for that becomes clear as he finally notices the paramedics standing beyond the team. There’s a toppled gurney laying abandoned in the scorch zone, a body bag smoldering slowly.
Only Prism is brave enough to have gotten closer; she gingerly steps into the scorch zone, body relaxed and unthreatening.
“Okay, that’s okay,” she says softly, like she’s talking to a cornered animal. “There’s no hurry.”
Robert hears Flambae’s breath shudder out of him.
Scent and taste always arrive together.
Robert suddenly becomes aware of the familiar taste of iron in his mouth, and he wishes his muscles were working so he could spit it out. The air around them is heavy with the overpowering smell of blood and sweat and smoke and melting plastic, and he can’t even twitch his nostrils.
Sensation comes soon after.
Usually when Robert comes back, the soreness overpowers any other sensations he’s feeling. Even the pain from unhealed injuries pales in comparison to the full body ache. It’s usually impossible to focus on any other feeling.
Then again, he’s never had someone holding him as he came back before.
Strong arms—Flambae’s—cling tightly to him, completely supporting his limp body.
“He told me to wait,” Flambae repeats hoarsely, and Robert can feel the vibrations of his voice; he realizes his head is nestled under the other man’s chin.
“Then we’ll wait,” Prism says firmly. “He probably knew what he was talking about.”
Flambae squeezes him tighter, but says nothing. Robert can feel him swallow.
Second-to-last is his heartbeat. He doesn’t know how it works, but it’s always the first muscle to start working again, and it’s unsettling every time.
His heart flutters uncomfortably in his chest, and Robert tries to steel himself against the sensation.
He hates this part.
There’s always this span of time where he gets completely used to the absence of a heartbeat, to the point where getting it back feels viscerally wrong. He can’t even wince—all he can do is lay there limply as the muscle tries to stutter back to life, like an old car engine turning over.
He sees Sonar’s giant head fly up at the first flutter, watches his wide, crimson eyes land on Robert, and then sees his face crumple as he looks at Robert’s unmoving body. The bat tucks his head back into Malevola’s stomach, and his hunched shoulders heave with a sob.
No, don’t, Robert wants to tell him. Don’t cry, I’m almost back…almost…
Finally, he regains control of his muscles. This is when his heartbeat stabilizes and his lungs begin to work again. Very soon after this step, he’s usually able to move around just fine.
Robert takes a shuddering breath, the rattling wheeze especially loud in the somber atmosphere.
And then all hell breaks loose.
bro why's my death robot got social anxiety
Flambert Thought about the idea of Robert having "Groundhogs Day" style powers that can only be triggered by his own death:
Flambae is of course still pissed off by being arrested, but he thinks it's a single moment. Robert knows better.
After Robert's power is revealed, Flambae looks at his hand and wonders. If Robert is nuts enough to do things over and over until he gets the "correct" result unless stopped, how many times did he fight Flambae before deciding the result was worth it? Mechaman isn't known for maiming his villains.
He asks, and doesn't like the answer. How many times Robert died either because Robert died or a civilian just happened to be there or because *Flambae* died. And it makes him sick. Part of him is still mad he lost. A lot more I think wants to wrap Robert up in bubble wrap.
It's not just Flambae doing it of course. The Z-team heard Robert describe his own death like an annoyance in a video game level, like the only ones that really mattered were the people around him, and they all decided he was Not Allowed Alone anymore.
But to Robert Flambae's is the most surprising, and certainly the most weirdly domestic since in between making sure Robert's power doesn't activate he's doing shit like making him meals.
Flambae is just trying to pretend that all the constant proximity is not make him suddenly appreciate Robert's looks.
OH SHIT I HADN'T THOUGHT OF THE FLAMBAE FIGHT FOR GROUNDHOG DAY POWER AU
Whats fun about a Groundhog's Day power over other immortal Robert's, is he suddenly feels responsible for every life he encounters. Cause if he times himself properly he should be able to help them.
He blames himself for his father's death more than Shroud. He'd saved Robbie before, but because Shroud was family, no one would let Robert be alone. Time passed, and the threshold for when he could "restart" came and went.
Chase just thought it was exhaustion winning out when Robert finally collapsed and began to sob at midnight. He didn't know that Robert felt like he failed.
And Robbie? He thought he knew Robert's powers. Thought he had some sort of Prediction power. (Maybe a world where Shroud is his other parent, and shroud's augment just improves something he has)
Sometimes his son would come in looking distressed and warn him about something. Robbie found himself always listening, something about his son looked so haunted that he couldn't dismiss it. It saved his life or other members of the Brave Brigade multiple times.
He would have stopped him, had he known. But he was never around long enough to realize.
Ooohhhh my god a groundhog day superpower would be EVIL to give Robert. No wonder the man isolates himself after his father's death in this au; his loved ones actively prevented him from saving his father by trying to support him. So he would have a knee-jerk response to people showing concern/caring about him because the last time they did, his dad stayed dead.
Yes absolutely!
It's not just that he might want to protect them or feels like he needs to do it on his own. It's also that he's angry at them, and angry at himself. Feels like everyone is almost just as much to blame as Elliot for the death because they wouldn't let Robert *save* him.
It's hard for him when he meets Chase because he's missed him so so much but he also remembers Chase not letting him alone as the clock ran out on his dad.
And it's still a power that hurts him, but it's much harder to convince him not to use it. Because it's not just immortality where his life "doesn't matter" to him. It's a chance to save lost people and it feels selfish not to hurt himself!
This version just with. So so many issues.
Looking at prev tags and I'm going insane. Because omg Chase is definitely gonna be emotionally conflicted as fuck. No way he's going to be okay with the idea of Robert dying to save Robbie, but a small part of him tries to argue that Robert would be okay, and he wouldn't have lost either.
Like, when he and the ZTeam find out about Robert's power, he and them are all gonna argue about how the trauma of dying isn't worth it. And he is the biggest "stop using this ability and go to therapy" supporter. But then he finds out about when Robert learned of his power, he will definitely and immediately put together that it was before his dad died, and how come he didn't reset to save his dad.....it hits him. And there will be a part of himself that he hates that actually would consider letting Child Robert use his ability to save Robbie. And he feels so guilty for even considering the idea, even if it isnt possible, because then who else is he gonna be okay with Robert sacrificing himself for? How often?
Outside of his dads death, maybe Robert isn't only saving his resets for worst-case scenarios. Like sure, at first, it was scary and only with the worst outcome on the line. But where that line is blurs over time. Maybe he only did it as a kid when it was his loved ones on the line. Then it's any civilian he tries to save. Then it's when he fucks up a fight and has lasting physical damage. Then to reduce property damage. Maybe he eventually gets to the point where he uses it as a tactic, just throws himself into each fight recklessly and allows himself to get killed a few times on purpose, just to get as much data from the as possible before he resets and has each fight done "correctly".
Or maybe, Robert saves his ability for worst-case scenarios (ie mass casualty events, or a child dies or something) until Shroud breaks out of prison. Then he ends up throwing himself into using it regardless of trauma and pain, pushing his limits to the max and getting all the ptsd that comes with repeated traumatic experiences in quick succession.
I'd bet that the limits would either be something to do with a set amount of resets in a specific time span, or like. His body needs more sleep to manage a reset since his consciousness would have been up for multiple days in a row. Cause there has to be a serious drawback or limit to the ability for such an OP power; plus without drawbacks or limits it would be super easy to just reset every single day and maximize every single decision ever/become apathetic cause life turns into a video game basically and theres so few consequences to any action he takes.
I will say that I think ZTeam would end up with some nuanced opinions for the ability if he's using it to save his loved ones or just saving lives, or like. Some are against him using it entirely while others see the tactical use if used sparingly, maybe someone doesn't really think through the ramifications at first and think it's cool, while the rest understand using it in specific situations but still hate it. But all of them agree he's using it too much and/or needs to take time between reset events to take care of himself properly (depends on the drawbacks)

Wedding bells (threat)
Pt two!!!
kids of color, you’re allowed to get a bitey when a white friend does something racist. literally 0 percent of people of color are obligated to be nice and palatable for white people. holding your tongue in the name of kindness doesn’t really do much in regards to stuff like this because white people are going to see you calling out their own racism as unkind anyways. white people, if a person of color comes off as aggressive while calling you out for racism, just fucking listen to them. they’re not coming from nowhere, and believe it or not: they know more about racism than you do! shocker, i know. just thickskin it, because it’s really not about you.
white ppl can rb but keep your damn mouths shut
