do not forget the patron saint of these weeks that we celebrate ourselves proudly and openly in the streets
her name was Marsha P Johnson, and we have her to thank for so much.
remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.
thank you, Marsha. we remember you.
history fucked me up
oxford was built and operational as a college before the rise of the mayans and cleopatra lived in a time nearer to pizza hutās invention than to the pyramids being built
I need a noncomprehensive history book that covers Known World History in time periods, likeĀ āin this century, all this shit was happening concurrentlyā and not just all spread out so I have to piece it together like some unpaid uneducated scholar
Mongols were fighting Samurai in Japan and Knights in Europe at the same time.Ā
Star Wars a New Hope came out the same year as the last execution in France by Guillotine.Ā
Abraham Lincoln and Edgar Allen Poe were friends in their early 20ā²s.Ā
When the Great Pyramids were being built there were areas that still had Woolly Mammoths roaming.Ā
Harvard University didnāt teach calculus in its first few years after being established because calculus wasnāt invented yet.
Powerful statements like these, that juxtapose the condemnation of such a simple and pure thing as love with the honour and worship of violence and death, always hit me hard and stay with me for days
This is the tombstone of Technical Sergeant Leonard Philip Matlovich, the first gay service member to intentionally out himself in order to fight the ban on gay people in the military. He hadnāt only served for Vietnam, he was a career Air Force member in good standing who would have liked to continue his career even though he knew coming out would most likely make that impossible. Heād also been an elder in the LDS church but was excommunicated
He was on the cover of Time magazine in 1975 which was the first time an openly gay person appeared on the cover of a U.S. magazine and had their name printed in that magazine
He was an advocate for AIDs/HIV patients from the start of the outbreak in the 70s. He contracted the virus in 1986 and died 2 years later
His name doesnāt appear on his tombstone because he wanted it to be a memorial for all gay veterans
hereās the King himself
and hereās his grave in its full glory, with the pink triangles and everything! the words over the dates of his birth and death are referencing the extermination of lgbt people during the holocaust and the HIV crisis, respectively.
tbh the rat balls article confirms a lot of what i worry about these days which is that no one is actually reading anything. people are just mashing "ok" on things and don't actually care. there's no actual quality control because to turn things down for their quality means turning down money for a submission
a couple years ago I found a guy who had constructed an elaborate alternate universe for his fetish in which American women had the largest breasts in the world and all other women on earth desperately hated American women for their huge boobs and wore padded bras to be more like them and all men on earth agreed American women were superior and more beautiful than any others. he had written at least one "scientific" PDF with carefully constructed fake graphs and photos and 3d models "proving" that American women had the largest breasts in the world (this isn't true IRL btw if that wasn't clear) and then made a fake website for the fake university that published the paper with fake profiles of the fake researchers who did the fake research. he retouched historical photographs of American celebrities to make their boobs bigger, as "evidence". there were a half dozen fraudulent websites involved and I think two or more papers. he also created fake user profiles on Reddit etc to spread around his "data", including of course blond American milfs wearing American flag clothing, who would post about how American women have the largest breasts in the world and then link to his website and papers as "citations".
well, in probing the socket on this one I found out his papers and websites had been cited not only by actual journalists but also other scientific papers, the authors of which apparently didn't actually read any of them but had inadvertantly hard coded him into the scientific literature by citing their own, legitimate research with fraudulent fetish worldbuilding by an insane divorced Finnish man who was at one time the Veterinary General of Finland.
I blew this up in a huge thread on Twitter and he must have checked his referral logs (because of course he would) because he tried to send me an international cease and desist and deleted a bunch of his websites in a panic.
my team emailed some of the people who "cited" his work and didn't hear back. so no, nobody is reading shit and no one cares about anything lmfao
real people being partially closeted or ambiguous about their own sexuality while making Gay Art is not queerbaiting
Real people figuring out theyāre queer through the process of making gay art is not queerbaiting either
#real people not telling you everything about themselves is allowed
"Aphrodite loves terfs" do you really think a goddess of love formed from a literal penis and the mother of Hermaphroditus, an intersex god who was associated with androgyny and feminine men, fucks around with transphobia?
she is a literal trans icon and to deny that will get you smited by all the gods

Oh if people need context for live slug reaction this is the original post. I'm not sure why it's blowing up today but it sure is hilarious
Disability rights should extend to people who did that to themselves. To the bloke who got paralysed because he was trying to do a dumb trick on his skateboard, to the person who has diabetes because they ate unhealthily, yes even to those people who got blinded at that NFT convention.
As an on again off again alcoholic who has tried and tried again at recovery, I find myself in a space now where I'm starting to lose my liver function, and I'm now therefore chronically ill. And it sucks, I've tried medication that just exacerbated my mental health issues and I'm signing up for my fourth AOD service. It will always be my fault that I'm chronically ill, but the idea that there are good disabled people and bad disabled people kicks people like me out in the cold.
I think everyone deserves equal opportunity to access disability services, get government pensions, use mobility aids, etc etc, without people going 'actually, you did this to yourself'.
Disability rights NEED to include people who are disabled due to their own actions.
You literally can't properly advocate for rights otherwise. People should not need to suffer needlessly due to mistakes they made.
Nobody should have the power to decide whether or not a disabled person deserves aid, if we allow that in any context we are forming the path for corruption and mistreatment.

Idk man itās so easy to get bogged down in all the bullshit online but when my then-6 year old cousin found out I was trans he said āokā then corrected my grandma when she misgendered me. I was once the third between a gay man and a lesbian. Two lesbians once invited me back to their place when I presented as a man. I met an AMAB nb butch who looked strikingly to outsiders like a cis man and it was one of the more sapphic experiences Iāve had. I nervously wore a boydyke shirt to pride and got 3 different cis-looking femme folks tell me they loved my shirt. I once told a trans group at a protest that any pronouns were fine for me and one person said āwow, Iām impressed and intimidated by people like that. I donāt know that I could be that chill with pronouns.ā I once told a GNC friend I wished I could wear a type of āoppositeā gender clothing after I had already transitioned and so it would be associated with my AGAB and he said āYou could just do it.ā Iāve had cishet men fight cops for me before. The first time I had a doctor ask me if my name was different than what was on my forms I had to try not to cry. Last week, a phone call with a doctorās office where I am generally cis passing asked unprompted if my name listed is what I want to be called. It touched me then too. I told a lesbian friend once I felt like my attraction to men AND women both felt gay. She said āmakes sense.ā And we moved on. I go by different pronouns in different circles. Iāve had gay women love my facial hair. Iāve had gay men like my tits. Itās all out there, I promise. It can be hard to find it but I promise there is community like you and community who likes you. And itās more messy and beautiful than tumblr discourse makes it out to be.
