What i only realized just now is that Grace chose starvation twice but in vastly different contexts.

The first time is because he cant deal with the responsibility of being one of the Humans on the Hail Mary who were chosen to save Humanity. He would rather be on Earth and die a coward than to sacrafice himself for it. And yet he gets rejected by Earth and gets send onzo the Hail Mary against his will.

The second time he chooses starvation is when he decides to send the Beatles to Earth, turn his ship around and go after Rocky. He rejects Earth and chooses Erid without even knowing if it will choose him back or if Rocky is even alive and waiting to be saved. And Erid opens its arms and chooses him back.
