R.I.P. to the more than 4,500,000 people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and Syria, who have lost their lives as a result of American occupation.
look, I’m not usamerican, and maybe I don’t get all the intricasies, but suring the summer 2020 protest movement, I know the Breonna Taylor case was one of the more animating cases of the movemt, and now the prosecutor’s office exonorated her killers and pinned the blame on her boyfriend, and the response has been pretty much non-existant. now maybe I am out if line, but I can only speculate, that if that verdict was handed down and Trump was the president, Liberals would be in the streets, in Louisville, and other cities, forming a critical mass in the streets, brands would be posting public statements about racial justice and liberal celebrities would be posting links to bail funds for arrested protestors all over social media. but it’s Biden in the white house, and former prosecutor Harris as the nominee, it’s crickets.
It's uncharitable but - there's a tendency for online liberals/progressives to act like everyone from a immigrant-heavy community (ethnicity or subculture or w/e) naturally and automatically supports universally liberalized and expanded immigration laws - and, like, I really can't help but feel like this isn't a opinion you can sustain if you actually interact with any number of the people you're talking about.

I feel like a lot of people don’t really fully grasp the idea that abusive parents exist and are both common and, to a degree, socially acceptable.
Like, they may be aware of the fact but have not yet actually integrated it into their worldview, personal beliefs, or policy proposals.
This becomes particularly obvious when people try to start a panic about trans charities or schools supporting trans minors “behind their parents’ backs” as if parents are just entitled to full control by default and would never do anything bad if they learned their child was trans.
If my own father had ever learned I was trans the most realistic range of his reactions would have been between “kicking me out of the house” and “literally just killing me”.
And I am far from the only one in this situation. LGBT people as a whole are disproportionately represented among homeless youth precisely because so many parents are unsupportive. Outright murder is more rare but has also happened before.
It is ridiculous to just assume parents are safe by default.
To my recollection, the only people other than my own mother whom have ever tried to kill me have been people my mother got to help her.
Nobody I’d ever met expressed any real problem with her behavior until after I’d escaped. Y’know, after it had stopped being a problem and was safe to acknowledge without being obligated to do anything.
Abusive parents are common. Its just that nobody cares.

even setting aside the fact that gendered bodytype averages aren't universals, and plenty of individual (cis) women and (cis) men could easily go to toe to toe. have we considered that the fact that all the most prominent and well-paid sports are ones that require things like Being Tall and Having Muscle Mass, as opposed to, ex, gymnastics...is itself an artifact of sexism

It’s wild how many mothers and friends I’ve talk to that said they stopped hitting their kids, particularly their boy kids, once they got bigger and stronger than them which proves it was never about discipline it was about being able to control someone who was smaller/weaker than them. They were afraid of someone hitting them back and doing onto them what they did to kids.

White Americans will show up on this app daily to talk about how supposedly scared they are of being killed for walking out in the streets under Donald Trump and how the Republicans and their voter base are all unhinged beasts who will attack them for no reason on sight for being queer, and will refuse to accept any violence be leveled at those same homophobic and transphobic white Americans because violence is bad or whatever. like i'm literally trying to put this as simply as humanly possible. the way that you are taught to view what it means to be a canadian or american or brit or whatever, the idea of Who you are, has built into it that by being From There you are fundamentally different or better or more Real than the rest of the world, and this is conveyed to you both overtly and subtly from an extremely young age, sometimes passively and sometimes directly, and you are taught these basic assumptions about the world, they become part of the way you navigate the world before you really have the words to explain or describe it. and i'm telling you that people born in the global south are typically not told these things, not conveyed this about ourselves from childhood, this is not something we are taught. the assumption, from an extremely young age, is that the world is full of "real people" and "real countries", whatever that means. there are more specific sectarian or communalist things taught to us depending on where we live and other aspects of the material conditions we are born into, but the basic assumption of "my country is the only real country in the world" and "only people born in my country are real people" is not universal, you did not enter this life thinking that way, it is something ingrained in you. and you can choose to unlearn that, or you can choose not to, but if you whine on the internet about people from the developing world being mean to you because you are insisting on your right to not view us as human beings i think you are too far gone

I hope the "I don't know anything about stuff that's not immediately relevant to my life as a white American citizen" crowd knows that the reason they're so ignorant of everyone else isn't because of you people's education system, bad as it objectively is.

Complete disinterest in anyone but yourselves? No matter how dependent your luxuries are on our suffering? That isn't neutral, it's legitimately evil and absolutely on you and further proof of your (lack of) ethics and humanity.
Americans are pretty much the only people I see blaming their cruel disinterest on others or near pathological lack of curiosity on their national education system. Not trauma associated with schooling, which would be more understandable, but just how bad your educational system is.

Education systems suck pretty much all around the world. They're state + capital tools for churning out useful and obedient workers who're already used to being forced to Do Tasks on command for about the time that most work shifts last.
They're not made to grow children into cultured adults with a thirst for knowledge. At best they're made to get as many students as possible into good universities (which is done for prestige and money, not out of actual interest for the wellbeing of the youth).
People who're intellectually curious about the world around them aren't so because of the schools they went to. They simply consider the world outside themselves to be worth their curiosity (much like you all consider your fandom stuff to be worth your curiosity), so they're interested by consequence.
You just don't consider our lives to be worthy of your interest or curiosity, since so many of you all consider your mundane annoyance at fundraiser asks to be of comparable or higher importance than whether or not someone else survives a genocide – if the one surviving that genocide happens to be a cultural and racial Other, a dehumanized Other, in contrast to your white American selves.
tbh i don't think people really understand how dire the water situation is in the west bank. the last time i was in palestine, i could only shower once a month. ONCE A MONTH. we simply did not have enough water to sustain my whole family, because israel controls palestinians' water supply and does not give us enough to sustain ourselves in the long run. plus the water isn't very clean so it was very easy to get sick all the time. when we say that "palestinians drink more olive oil than water", it's not genuinely such a silly hyperbole as you might think.
The last time I was in the West Bank, I got violently ill because of the water and was basically required to drink only bottled water and while we could afford it, I kept thinking how many people here can't and will get as ill as I got.
Like I nearly ended up in a hospital. Can you imagine making formula with that water? Can you think of the elderly person who gets a bacterial infection just because they can't get clean water? And reminder that the water restrictions get worse in the summer when we need it the most.
^^ this is very true. the last time i was in the west bank, i was sick constantly and threw my guts up violently almost every night, to the point where i was bedridden almost every day and could literally never leave the house. i lost a violent amount of weight as well. the water simply is NOT clean and it's really unsafe. this same water is being used to grow plants and food, wash our clothes and dishes, and bathe, amongst other things. along with rising temperatures and harsher restrictions on the water supply, palestinians are not only chronically dehydrated, but are very susceptible to getting severe illnesses. people NEED to be paying more attention to the situation in the west bank, while also caring for gaza and the other occupied territories that are suffering as well.

people are definitely interacting less with donation posts and i dont know what to do it really seems like these baseless accusations of scams just gave a lot of people an excuse to stop paying attention. many of the people ive been speaking to told me how hurt they were by the accusations and racism they faced on here, understandably. it drives me fucking crazy how many westerners refuse to see anyone else as human and would rather mock genocide victims as atrocities are being committed in real time. why even speculate on what the internet during world war 2 would be like, were literally watching it right now
