It is the job of the police to oppress the working class on behalf of the bosses. Do not believe the sanitized rhetoric of the powers that be—all positive social change was fought for, tooth and nail. They will never make concessions without mass action.
Take care of each other out there. Never act alone. Don’t talk to cops.
people thinking they’re trans and then deciding they aren’t:
-happens sometimes
-means are in a comfortable enough space where they can question their identity and arrive at a conclusion that works for them
-often find our new things about themselves and how they express and relate to their gender
-doesn’t mean there’s some hidden force trying to make people trans
-is not an excuse to make hrt and surgeries harder to access
-is not a reason to deny trans people a safe, comfortable, supportive environment to be who they are
MY DUDES!
The print copy of World of Looming Gaia: Freelance Good Guys is finally available for purchase!
—> GET IT HERE <—
Extra special thanks to @saint-nevermore who provided the awesome illustrations for this thing!
And thanks to everyone who has supported the Looming Gaia project since its rocky beginnings almost ten years ago. I sure do appreciate it more than I can say.
My stories are free to read and always will be. Buying this print version is just a way to support the project and add a physical copy to your collection. It’s a heavy, nice quality book that feels good to hold and looks great on the shelf! I’m really impressed with the thickness and clarity of the paper.
Check it out!
OMG GUYS IT’S DONE
Some fun facts about “vegan leather.”
Yes, it is plastic. Which means it’s breaking down and releasing micro-particles into the environment.
That’s bad.
There’s also the whole “plastic comes from oil” issue and no, most vegan leather is not made from plant based plastic or recycled plastic.
It’s also not recyclable itself.
It wears out faster, and is less repairable, so you’ll have to buy new boots or whatever every couple of years instead of like. Once every decade and getting them occasionally fixed (for typically less than the cost of a new pair of vegan leather boots).
One of the attorneys I work with has a beat-up leather briefcase he was gifted when he passed the bar. In the 70s.
Another attorney bought a vegan leather one last year and he already has had to replace it.
It doesn’t “breath,” so your boots are more likely to smell than if they were made of leather.
It won’t form to your feet over time, so it’s less comfortable.
It also isn’t anywhere near as warm in the winter.
It doesn’t protect against various dangers and, in some cases, could make things much worse for the wearer. Ever had plastic melted to your skin? It’s not fun.
I know someone that professionally butchers local livestock and game. A few years ago, she would sell hides to various manufacturers. Now, she can’t even pay people to take hides. Her shop had to buy a bigger dumpster to hold the hides because they can’t get rid of them.
Because no one wants leather anymore.
(I could go on and on about the ethics of the meat industry in america, but to stay on topic, I won’t. Send me an ask if you want to talk about it. Same goes for initial cost issues for low income people, because I know that’s also a major thing)
Basically, as long as there is a market for beef in America, there will be hides that can be turned into leather. Yes, I know, there are a lot more complex issues in this, what with capitalism and all. See previous paragraph.
But the bottom line is that vegan leather SUCKS and people should avoid buying it whenever possible.
trans men who get whiny about gnc women who go on testosterone / get top surgery / whatever bc they think they're "invalidating trans men" are literally so annoyingggg, like, perhaps if you werent tying your "true trans" identity exclusively to dysphoria and medical transition (both things that anyone can experience) to the point where you feel threatened by like..... relating to people, i guess? you'd realize that gender means different things to different people
like the truth is.... as a man, trans or not, you may have things in common with women, sorry if you think thats gross or scary whatever but theres nothing wrong with relating to women
the most succinct explanation of why some lesbians use they/them or he/him pronouns is that pronouns are very much like names, in that they are culturally established signifiers we use to refer to someone else, and almost always those signifiers are gendered.
You’ll see a lot of lesbians start to go by androgynous or masculine names (or nicknames) to feel more comfortable. Sam, Pat, Chris, Jay, Moe, etc. are all really common chosen names among lesbians for that reason.
I also knew an older butch– my parents’ age– who went by Otter (& her femme partner went by Kitty) because they decided to just depart from standard names entirely– and I see younger lesbians using neo-pronouns in very similar ways for very similar reasons.
A lesbian who was raised with the name Christina and the pronouns she/her/hers deciding he’s more comfortable with the name Chris and he/him/his pronouns to reflect his complex relationship to womanhood is not a huge confusing leap, it’s pretty normal depending on what circles you’re in.
Gender is complex, and gender nonconforming lesbians, butches, and femmes have often navigated gender on their own terms to find ways of being comfortable in their bodies, relationships, and lives.
hey with tr*mp abruptly announcing that they’re ending the census count on september 30, much earlier than originally planned (source, dated August 4, 2020), it’s vitally important that you get your census response in immediately. the census is used to determine how many seats your state gets in the house of representatives and also helps allocate federal funding for schools, roads, hospitals, and fire departments (source 1) (source 2).
it’s just a brief questionnaire, but it’s one of the most important things you can do to help your community right now. hundreds of millions of dollars are on the line, and some states are already poised to lose multiple seats in the house because of low response rates (source). it only takes a couple minutes, so please, consider taking a break and filling it out now!
