Not liking rap is absolutely no reason to not listen to Black music.
We have folk of all kinds (Mon Rovîa and Allison Russell come to mind), we have country (you have heard Darius Rucker if you listen to the radio at all), we have alt rock (De'Wayne's music is a fantastic place to start), the list goes on.
Every kind of music you listen to has roots and inspiration somewhere in Black music. Look for it. Rock and roll as you know it wouldn't exist without Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Most of the music that made Elvis himself famous was taken from Black artists. Blues and everything that came after would be nothing like you know it without Robert Johnson and countless others. It's not that you don't like Black music, you do. You listen to our music every day, you just don't know it. Start listening to it on purpose. I swear to you, we've got something you like if you'll just look.
I hope it doesn't derail, but the other day I was listening to Edmond Dédé.
He was a 19th century composer born in New Orleans and working predominantly in France.
Dede is often credited as the author of the first African-American opera, Morgiane, or the Sultan of Isfahan. Sadly, it was lost for the longest time and was only revived this year. However, the recordings of his other works are easily available online. They are very beautiful, I highly recommend to check them out.

A cat is a small creature in the middle of the food chain that is fully aware that you are a very large thing that could stomp its head in at any moment and yet it chooses to rest its tiny little head on your leg for a nap and spreads out on the floor near you exposing its belly and its most sensitive organs. It brings dead mice and bugs to you to share food.
Don’t you get it? This tiny thing trusts you. It wants to help you too. It licks your leg thinking that it’s helping. It kneads on you to find comfort. It shares its body warmth with you in the cold and gives you your space in the heat. It hisses at other mammals it sees outside including other cats in an effort to protect its family.
Cats love you so so much. But they will keep trying to eat plastic.

okay people are still online but im gonna say this anyway. the queer community has gotten way too comfortable being awful to straight people and it needs to change and im not kidding
yeah okay whatever the straights are oppressing us we know. but being mean and always making jokes about “ewww i hate straight people” and excluding them from queer spaces when they have good intentions is doing nothing but damage. do you think spinning their narrative of ‘disgusting homosexuality’ back on them into ‘disgusting heterosexuality’ is going to change anything?
not to mention this hurts and excludes people who are queer. bisexuals and transhets and people with genders and orientations that present outwardly different than one would “normally” expect listen to your words that you hate straight people and they hear that you hate them. you are pushing marginalized people out of their community because a joke turned into actual hatred somewhere along the lines and no one wants to admit that. perpetuating this is not funny or cool. you are hurting people— not just your allies, but the people youre supposed to be fighting for.
Remember also that some people interact with queer spaces because they are trying to figure themselves out. Encountering a wall of hate will chase them right back into the closet before they are sure who they are, let alone ready to come out.
