okay i fucking hate the idea of AI generated fics too, but we need to have a serious talk about the level of borderline hysterical paranoia i am seeing about AI gen fanfiction in the heated rivalry fandom. people are acting like 90% of the fic they're reading is AI and are starting daily witch hunts against fic writers with no proof.

i have read probs upwards of 400 HR fics in the past 3 months and i think i can count on one hand the number of fics i've suspected may have been created with the help of AI. and even then, it was just a suspicion. i had no proof. it's absolutely NOT the widespread thing that people are acting like it is.

some of you only think that it is because the overwhelming majority of the "proof" you are pointing to is a load of nonsense. posting a lot? maybe the author writes fast or pre-writes long fics. using flowery language? maybe that's their style, maybe it's just a normal way of writing and you should read more widely to familiarise yourself with that style. inconsistencies? it's fanfiction! it's a hobby! not everyone proofreads. uses em dashes? this is just punctuation! repeating similar words/phrases? this happens ALL THE TIME, even in trad pub'd work, and again, it's a fun lil hobby people are doing in their spare time usually without the support of multiple editors and proofreaders. it's not evidence of anything other than the author likes that word/phrase.

like truly it's giving baby's first fandom, or maybe even baby's first time reading a work of fiction.

the daily witch hunts, the constant call out posts, the accusatory comments, the picking a fic writer's work apart on reddit or twitter. today i saw someone has started an ao3 collection specifically stating they ~believe~ everything they've added is AI generated. this is just not okay. you literally do not have proof. you're being paranoid. you're making fic writers delete their accounts, take down their works, discouraging them from ever sharing anything with you again. and you're making fellow fans miserable too by telling them everything they like isn't real, when again, 99% of the time you have no evidence.

if your only contribution to this fandom is harassing fic writers for things they probably haven't done, without any actual proof, then i think you need to give your head a wobble.

Yah this is something I’ve wanted to low key talk about. The lack of any sort of fandom etiquette in the HR fandom is appalling. I know this is a lot of baby’s first fandom and like I’m so happy more people are joining this wonderful part of engaging with media. But we can not go back to the culture and fandom wars of the 2010s.

Ok. I love HR like so much but here’s my tiny rant on something that doesn’t matter. Shane having a speedo sponsorship is complete bs (also speedo being considered a luxury brand made me laugh). My credentials for this claim: I am a colligate diver on a team that is actively sponsored by Speedo. Speedo doesn’t sponsor or even have people ambassador who aren’t swimmers or divers. Like why would an NHL player be sponsored by Speedo. What market is there?!?!? And why is it in the same sentence as Rolex. I can tell you my team is no where close to being sponsored by Rolex. This little detail has been bothering me so bad.

On the other hand as my little diver brain is the way it is I love to imagine that fact that Shane does some marketing stuff for speedo and is forced to like learn to dive with another athlete like hahaha look at this NHL star learn to dive with Molly Carlson!!! (Ilya would rewatch it late at night)
