“What if I write it and it’s bad-”
WHAT IF YOU WRITE IT AND ITS GOOD? WHAT IF YOU WRITE IT AND ITS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANTED? WHAT THEN????
How could I forget that teen Sonic basically adopted Tails- it’s his day too
Tail Tales!!!
Time and Twilight - Wolf tails
Matches each of their hair colors
The rest of the chain thinks its purely coincidence that they match (some are lwk jealous but won't say shit)
Hairy twilight
Twilight looking at it for the first time like "damn, it's already started" cause he's a broody lil guy
Wars - Peacock train
Only drew with the full train but most of the time he just has a little puff of feathers.
Takes preening to the max, whether it's full train or just the puff, he takes the best care of his feathers.
Trips over it all the time
Collects the big feathers to sell after they shed.
Wild - Lion Tail
Burnt tip, prob the thinnest/most at risk tail of the chain
Has sewn parts onto his clothes before to keep it pinned closer to his body to protect it.
Makes it easy to tell when he's lying, or any emotions really
Idle animations have him playing with the puff on the end (yay, built-in fidget!)
Sky - Loftwing tail
Is sick of explaining what it is just cause loftwings didn't seem to survive into others times
Def makes him feel closer to Crimson
Very soft, prob the softest tail in the chain
Isn't able to really move it much, mostly just small adjustments for balance.
Four - Minish tail
Single feather is very confusing to the chain
Adding the minish cheek marks cause who's gonna stop me?!
I have no thoughts on what his tail was like pre MC but he's not upset that it's changed
Most comfortable (cause it's flat and doesn't get in the way of clothes or sitting)
Hyrule - Snake/Serpent Tail
Based off of forest snakes
Sheds like a snake too. Wild takes the skin to see if it can make a good potion
"damn, rulie gets wings and a movable tail, how many more appendages can one guy get?"
Does not grow back like lizard tails.
Wind - Dragon Tail
Based off of the Dragon Valoo from WW.
One slap from that thing is probably a death sentence
The spikes are hard and brittle. They can break/fall off and a new one will grow.
When he's happy it thumps against the ground like a drum
🎵dragon tales, dragon tales🎶
Legend - ???
He doesn't have one
He insists
Nope, he refuses to change in front of the others
He will bite you

power signalling
Kneeling.
Ordered to kneel as punishment or as a show of deference.
Shoved physically to the ground by hands on their shoulders, maybe a kick to the back of the knee.
Picking themself up off the ground but only getting as far as hands and knees.
Crawling because they haven't got the strength to stand anymore.
Dropping to their knees from exhaustion or despair.
Personal space.
Casually invading it.
Uninvited touch - from the deeply creepy to something as simple as a firm hand on the shoulder.
Standing too close - especially if taller or otherwise physically stronger.
Conversely, hurrying to get out of someone's way.
Eye contact.
Staring someone down. Who is the first to look away?
Averting eyes for one's social superiors. Trying to de-escalate by avoiding eye contact.
Too frightened or ashamed to look someone in the eye.
Insisting that someone maintain eye contact while you're talking to them. Insisting that someone never look you in the eye.
Singling someone out just by looking at them.
More generally, Attention.
The room falls quiet when they walk in.
Who cuts in, and who gets talked over. Ignoring those who are beneath your attention.
The excited attention given to the object of respect and idolization.
The careful, wary focus given to a potential threat.
Deliberately attending to something else to appear less threatening. Deliberately burying oneself in something else to avoid attracting unwanted attention.
Codified status behaviours.
Bowing to one's superiors. Bonus points if there are differentiated kinds of bowing for different status differentials.
Soldiers coming to attention when a superior officer comes.
Saluting. Who greets whom first?
Serving food in a particular order.
Standing up when a respected person enters the room.
Non-verbal threats.
Just resting a hand on a weapon, or perhaps even just near a weapon.
Cracking knuckles or rolling shoulders. Clenched fists. The little come-get-some-then life of the chin.
Stepping from a conversational stance into one that's balance for fight or flight.
Pointing a weapon at someone. Casually brushing aside a weapon.
Conversely, de-escalation and surrender.
Open hands, spread in front of them. Hands above head.
(Raised slowly, transitioning from the simple whoa-calm-down gesture to full on surrender as the situation gets tenser.)
Going still. Slow, careful movements being sure to keep hands where they can be seen. Laying down weapons.
Hands on head. Getting down on the floor. Deliberately making oneself vulnerable to prove non-hostile (or non-resisting) intent.
Alternately, deliberately showing "vulnerability" to demonstrate how little of a threat you consider the other person.
The slouch of villainy. Open posture, casual, relaxed in the face of apparent danger.
Casually putting weapons away or turning one's back, confident that they won't do anything.
Signs of fear.
Flinching. Trembling. Closed defensive posture. Tension. Backing away. Fidgeting. Lip-biting.
Arms hugged close to chest. Or refusing to lower defences. Checking for escape routes. Trying to insist that they don't come any closer.
Offer of or requests for help.
Extending a hand to help someone up off the ground. Reaching out a hand in silent plea.
Do they have to ask for help? Are they willing to accept it? Do they get a choice? Who has plenty and who has to rely on the other's goodwill?
Picking someone up off the ground. Carrying them. (Dropping them?)
Adjusting someone's clothes. Withholding aid.

A character can vastly expand their area of influence by laying a hand on a table, for example. If you're standing on opposite sides of a large table, and one of you puts your hand down, that can symbolically take you up into the other party's personal space in a much subtler and more deniable way than actually getting up in their face.
This can be used equally well to convey affection or threat.

i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! disect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!
A great piece of advice I've seen is "Don't fixate about what the character would never do. Think about the circumstances that would drive them to do this, even if they wouldn't normally."
Best advice ever!
Memo to everybody :
Never be afraid to recycle an idea you had for a WIP you abandoned. Sometimes the idea needs a different set of characters or a different setting.
An addition:
Never be afraid to recycle an idea you had for a project you already completed. Sometimes ideas really are just that good and deserve to be used more than once.
Don't be afraid to use the same recipe to make a new cake

Hi there, little ficlet for @butter-and-too-much-bread . Hope you enjoy the request!

Tags: non-sexual pet play, no linkshipping, animal traits, platonic cuddling,
Summary: Twilight gets pets
Reblog if you're okay with receiving asks for backstory info on any/all of your fics.
If not all, specify which ones in the tags.
Obviously?
I think a lot of people are forgetting that on tumblr fandom used to be practiced very differently. now everyone fucks off to their discords or tumblr groups to discuss everything with a select few, making tags be nearly only used for posting some finished fanworks or not at all
a decade ago people didn't have tumblr groups. people didn't even have dms. if you wanted to talk to anyone about anything you had to make a post, or send an ask (which more often than not would get published and thereby become a post in the end too)
so next time you think "I have a fandom thought but I have to find a small group of hyperspecifically like-minded people to share it with in private" remember all the freaks you could be missing out on meeting by keeping the tags dead. use tags, make friends. fuck discord.
You can't hide gold like this in the tags! That really is the perfect way to put it! ⬇️
Not "The Character did nothing wrong" or "The Character is irredeemably awful" but a secret third thing: The Character may display moments of deep love & compassion, may even have a strong sense of ethics, and may also be capable of brutal cruelty that is irreconcilable with those traits. The constant tension between the different sides of The Character's nature is exactly what makes them compelling, and attempting to reduce them down to simply "a terrible person" or "innocent & misunderstood" is missing the point of the questions a media with nuanced characters is asking you to consider
Hi o/ Just read thru ur ninjago AUs and was wondering, is there a crackfic-esque concept where fsm lives au! fsm tries to do what Son of Overlord Garmadon AU! fsm did to Garmadon? Like, fsm lives! fsm sees that Morro is now apart of his family and (accidentally or otherwise) influences things so Morro starts growing more dragoni features during what was supposed to be a normal, human transition into adulthood. Like teen morro just things he’s getting growing pains or something, and then wakes up with teeny, nubby horns or a Notable Better sense of smell.
Idk it’s just funny to think of Morro finally allowing himself to find and recognize his place in the family only for him to find weird chalk on his skin (oni marks) or feel more inspired to create music with his wind (dragon bias to create). Meanwhile, fsm is a realm away somewhat feeling a disturbance in the force.
You haven’t posted anything for the fsm lives au in a while I know but I absolutely love it so take this as a sign of appreciation (<- absolutely starved of fsm fam content). Great ideas! Loved writing thru the tag
I'm so happy you love my fsm lives au! I've been more focused on other projects (particularly my Mystake is the fsm fic) lately but I still absolutely adore this au!
But yeah there is now definitely a crack au where Morro ends up part Dragoni because the fsm saw their new grandson and was like 'hmm it's missing a few things' and straight up changed his biology.
A strong case can also be made for the changes being accidental as well. Though I think it could also be the fault of Wu in a similar notion. In that case yeah the fsm is chilling in the Grasslands one day and is suddenly like 'why is there another Dragoni child who made it?'
But from Morro's point of view it would be absolutely wild because at least in my Son of the Overlord au Garmadon know's he's a supernatural being (albeit he doesn't find out who his parent is until after Wu is born) whereas Morro was born human, raised human for a few years, and just happened to be adpoted by the son of god. And then just magically wakes up one day with wings??? And Wu is in denial about this being his fault and yet, Morro knows it is.
Both concepts are gold skaksksks
Concept 1
Morro, settling into his adoptive family and seeing them as his real family despite all the drama: Huh, I wonder why I had such intense growing pains last night.
Morro, looking in reflective water to see wings: …Wu if this is because I ran away-
Meanwhile, the fsm squinting in the grasslands: Did someone just pop a grandchild into existence?
Concept 2
Morro, getting the vague impression of someone looking at him: Hm, weird.
The fsm, ghosting around the house on a spontaneous, non-destiny-defying visit: Oh, a grandchild. Missing some parts tho. That’s fine, easy fix.
And Wu just looks at Morro the next day like, “Did I Do That? No, I would’ve noticed. Did father do that? When??? Not that im complaining but-“
Meanwhile Morro can’t even walk for a few mins cuz all the extra dragoni features have shattered his center of gravity and his balance is shit
Ugly
Obsessed with the idea that, in a world where Kai & Nya take in Tiny Wandering Lloyd, they just gaslight the other villagers all the time.
Like, the villagers start seeing a tiny blonde boy following the Smith kids around and they say he’s their baby brother. He doesn’t have the same hair or skin tone as them, but he could be an exact match for a grandparent. It happens. And hey, he’s so small, maybe he was just kept inside until he grew bigger. Babies can’t be outside often anyway.
And then, the weather gets warmer, and Lloyd shrugs off his cloak/coat and hat to reveal nubby horns and a chubby little tail. And it’s like, What Is That, Where Did You Get That.
All the while, Kai and Nya aren’t saying shit. Kai looks villagers in the eye and says he was there for Lloyd’s birth. Nya squints at questions like they’re particularly stupid and says they shared a crib for a bit until she got her own room. Since they were born so close together.
On that note, Kai does some mental math and decides Lloyd is like, 2-3 years younger than Nya. Literally tries to make it so Lloyd was juuuust born before their parents left. Lloyd is just short, that’s all (Lloyd is bribed into agreement with candy).
Meanwhile, Lloyd is just vibing. He’s getting taken care of, and fed, and now he has a whole yard to play in that belongs to his family. Which is a highlight, he has a family now. One that’s here with him and can hug him and play with him (sometimes they’re busy tho). His dad does his best, really, but a shadow of your father is only ever a shadow.
Anyways, I’d pay to see the look on Wu’s face when all three siblings keep lying while with the ninja. Garmadon? No garmadon here. That’s Lloyd Smith and he looks exactly like our grandfather, how dare you doubt us.
(Lloyd does look like a tiny, undeveloped, green version of Wu & Garmadon’s father. AKA Lloyd’s grandfather. Which is disturbing on its own without the Smith siblings saying it so clearly and at full volume.)
I have a crackfic of a thought that Nya, in all her teenage wisdom, decides to make a disturbingly realistic paper mache egg that’s like, 2ft tall and 1ft wide. It’s brown with red and green stripes, and textured to feel like gravel. Anyway, she presente it like a gift from god at a ninja dinner and says Lloyd hatched from there.
There’s a silent moment where Garmadon seriously contemplates asking which human parent of theirs laid that egg, but is too flabbergasted to make such an inappropriate remark.
Idk I just think it’d be so funny if Kai and Nya claimed Lloyd as their third sibling and committed so hard to the bit that they start forging/engineering false evidence.
Once again thinking about the ouroboros relationship of Garmadon and Wu. Like, Wu (creation) will always begin things, for ill or good. Meanwhile, Garmadon (destruction) will always bring about some kind of end (Death, Sacrifice). Wu will always accept Garmadon back and Garmadon will always leave eventually. The inherent destruction in violence will always make Garmadon stronger while Wu must guide others. Wu can never defeat Garmadon. Garmadon will always end the cycle so Wu can begin it anew. Garmadon and Wu as the snake always eating each others tail
if you ever find yourself writing fanfiction and thinking "this is too indulgent" that is the devil talking and he can go ahead and shut the fuck up
