The fact that the Cullens don't sleep is 10 times more fascinating than the fact that they won't die. I don't think about what they do with their extra 100s of years nearly as much as I think about what they're up to all night. When the world around them goes quiet and they're left behind, wide awake, a myriad of possibilities arises. I dont care about their super long life, I care about their double life. The immortality that comes from their constant conciousness is way more interesting than escaping death.

It takes a long time, and a lot of practice, but eventually Bella learns how to use her sheild to block out all the voices around Edward. She uses it mostly at home so their family can finally have private thoughts and Edward feels more normal. She can also tell when Edward is overwhelmed by the voices in public, and does it for him. At first she has to really concentrate on it so much so that Edward begs her not to strain herself because he’s used to it anyways. But as years stretch into decades it becomes second nature. She can pick and choose who to include and exclude (she only does this by his request), distance, have it so he can hear only her, etc. Edward cites it as further proof that they were made to be together, but Bella just does it because she knows how anxious Edward gets with all the voices in his head, and hates not being able to grant his family privacy from him, and does it as a little gift for him, since he gifted her with everything she ever wanted.

Like ur telling me my boy sits in a cafeteria of 350 teenagers mentally screaming and doesn't OFTEN break half way thru lunch and sit in his car until school is over, drowning out the low hum of thoughts with shitty rock music?

ur telling me that he is not one of the only vampires in the world whose ever experienced an immortal panic attack? Like there's too many voices, or he is listening too hard for one or digging too deep in a certain mind and suddenly they're all swirling around him and filling up his brain and he cant stop it so he just DARTS into the woods and runs to fuckin Quebec or smthn?

Ur telling me he doesn't have severe anxiety because he always has to be vigilant over every thought in a room, terrified that someone is going to get too suspicious and he'll have to break it to rosalie and esme that they need to leave again. They never shoot the messenger but it always feels a little like its his fault anyway.

Ur telling me that being alone in a car with bella swan isn't the most euphorically relaxing sensation on the planet because he can be with someone WITHOUT being overwhelmed, the world can be quiet with out being lonely? And that's when he realizes he loves her, alone in that car together, he realizes no one will ever be right for him the way she is?
