How do we strengthen the field of psychology? Gender transition "medicine" is the second time we have had a therapy that introduces long term harm under the guise of care. The first time this occurred was with the lobotomy. The lobotomy was held up as an exemplary treatment for a very long time. They even had studies showing it was effective. These studies, however, failed to take into account the horror of being unable to think on a basic level. Yes, it's true you will seem less upset if you can't think at all. That is not "psychological wellness." it was a medical horror. How do we protect the field from continuing lobotomy tier medical malpractice - both now with gender identity-related medical care and in the future going forward with new, emerging therapies and medications.

Fun fact: The lobotomy was awarded a Nobel prize in 1949.

honestly i completely understand why jk rowling has become such a huge troll when her original posts were so polite and respectful. i have definitely lost 99% of my remaining empathy for the trans community since creating this blog because of the things i've read and how horrendous the harrassment has been.

cause here's the thing: you start out on radblr with the purpose of sharing your views and being a voice of reason. you hold a position of empathy, and you prioritize civility and education while engaging in arguments. you bring in face-based evidence, scientific sources, and statistics to explain your viewpoints.

in response, anonymous users in your inbox tell you to kill yourself. blogs sharing fantasies about raping terfs leave violent descriptions on how they want to kill you under your posts. you discover the "terfbreaking" tag which leads you down a rabbithole of depravity targeting women.

you aren't exactly shocked, but you had no idea things were this bad. nobody told you that radfems were bombarded with such explicit rape and death threats, though you always had issues with how violent the trans community was toward women. this solidifies your choice to leave trans ideology for good.

still, you hold out hope that this reaction is from a small minority. maybe that's why there was never awareness made against it.

between two posts discussing afghanistan's legalization of male violence against their wives, there's a news article about a transwoman being arrested on charges of child rape. under your newest post about male-pattern violence, a user wants to remind you that transwomen are actually the most oppressed group of people on earth. female oppression does not exist. acknowledging male socialization is a terf dogwhistle.

in a few scrolls, you land on a post shared by your mutual that features multiple screenshots from a blog with "TMA" in the description about wanting to rape their little sister with their girlcock. each post has hundreds of notes.

when you refresh your notifications, you're bombarded with spambots calling you a pedophile and threatening to rape and murder you.

you close out your browser. you think you're going insane.

I keep seeing posts from people who claim they will be blocking anyone who posts any content from the new Harry Potter show that begins airing in December.

So I wanted to say you’re all being ridiculous. You consume media all the time by actual rapists. You watch movies with actors who have killed people. You read books written by racists and homophobes. All. The. Time. And it is so unimportant to you that half the time, you don’t even know.

This business with JK Rowling is a witch hunt. She follows a different kind of feminism than you do. And sometimes she’s a little rude about it. (But we don’t tone police here.) She has never put hands on anyone. She has started charities with her own money. And she is an outspoken advocate for women experiencing domestic violence.

She has expressed acceptance for LGBT people, yes including trans people. She just does not believe a person can genuinely change their sex, that some ‘inclusive’ terminology dehumanizes women and that sex segregated spaces are necessary to protect women.

There is a reason that JKR is being derided the way she is, and it’s not because she’s the worst person in the world. And if you step back, if you read her words, you’ll see why.

I once was one of the loudest supporters of trans women, the biggest thing that made me change, was realizing how little they actually cared about women. I respected them, just wasn't attracted to them? TERF. I believe there are spaces for women that they should not be allowed in? TERF. Trying to discuss the biological differences from people born xx and xy ? TERF.

I tried so hard to be open and accepting, to see you as women, but time and time again, anything we said that slightly misaligned with how you viewed women, our voices silenced, met with rape/death threats, and often times called misogynystic names. Wild to me how many trans reactions/retorts end up being "If I wasn't a woman would I look like THIS" and they will point to some look accociated with women, as if somehow dressing in any particular way makes you any more or less your sex.
