today I found out my mother doesn’t know what dandelions are and now I’m wondering what other strange secrets she’s been quietly harboring
Where do you live that you don’t have dandelions?
we have dandelions EVERYWHERE, they are basically our State Weed, it is absolutely impossible that my mom has never interacted with a dandelion before, this requires further investigation
So after extensive interrogation I have an update:
my mom is in fact aware that dandelions exist. she temporarily forgot the name and there was some miscommunication.
the truth is actually weirder
she’s aware dandelions look like this
she is familiar with this flower. she knows the name of this flower. she declines to believe, however, that these are also dandelions
she does not believe these are the same plant. I tried to explain, and she thought I was either misinformed or lying. so I asked her what exactly did she think the yellow ones were called?
she answered, with complete confidence: Daffodils.
gosh I enjoy this website
For comparison, this is a daffodil
See, folks in the southern US will tell you up and down those are buttercups, actually.
i don’t think so? i’m southern and buttercups are what we call these things (much tinier)
Wait I thought those bigger cup ones were Easter Lillies???
This is an Easter Lily. It is an actual lily and therefore deadly to cats.
They’re marigolds and I know a bitch when I see one!
This is a marigold:
….we need to start taking the phrase “go touch grass” more literally. go outside and examine a flower i beg u
But. But these are daffodils…….?
I AM GOING TO SHOVE DAISIES DOWN YOUR THROAT UNTIL THEY SPROUT OUT YOUR TOENAILS
The power is out & it’s uncomfortably warm, but the frogs & bugs are singing so loud that it doesn’t even matter
I hear them everywhere, and in the sincere pitch darkness of the small town south- there is peace
Soup
Hot hot soup
fuck if it’s this easy why do they close the goddamn road for like five months shit
all outta soub :(
I work for the road crew in the summer. Crack sealing (the process you see above) is fairly quick and simple. (Though holding a hose that pumps literal tons of 350F tar into the road in the middle of the summer is NOT easy)
I think what a lot of people underestimate is just how much road there is in your city. And just how many directions the crew gets pulled.
For our city of around 50k people there are 8 of us.
Also, crack sealing is a wholly temporary measure, meant to slow the break-up of the roads, it’s not a permanent fix.
Roads tend to get closed for months on end because we have to tear the whole thing up, then, depending on the class of road, we either have to hammer-drill into concrete to lay rebar and the pour concrete, or we can get straight to paving. If it’s a road requiring concrete we’re required to wait at least 24 hours for it to set.
So after 2 days we’re finally able to pave. But the city allocates one (two if we’re lucky) 5 ton truck to transport material.
A relatively short paving job requires at a minimum of 60 tons. So that’s 12 trips to the asphalt factory and back. Each ton is around $80.
TL;DR
There’s a lot of road, not many of us, and soup is expensive.
Leave the soup men alone.
Leave the soup men alone, and go vote for people who will pay for more soup and more soup people
also be careful in workzones and obey speed signs and other directions. Soup men deserve respect and deserve to go home safe ;o;
i love my fans 💚
(for context anon (blank account) is trying to figure out how to misgender me)
she's been trying to guess my gender for 3+ hours so now we're talking about eels 💚
the town routinely sends a messenger up the mountain to beg the mighty dragoness not to eat them all and raze their town, and ask her what she wants for this month’s holy sacrifice in exchange for her allowing them to live in her territory. they have done this for centuries
the mighty dragoness did pass away recently. she was very old even for a dragon, so it was bound to happen. her niece inherited the cave, and she seems very sweet but she doesn’t really understand the traditional point of the sacrifices and has no interest in accruing further wealth so she just sort of asks for anything on her mind at the moment
a basket of onion rings is definitely not an ordinary sacrifice. but if the dragon wants onion rings, onion rings the dragon will get
the townspeople are banging ritual drums and singing the dragon's praises and a priest is delivering the standard litany to the dragon asking for her protection and her forgiveness that they should dare to build their settlement in her territory
a nervous girl wearing a flowy robe walks slowly along the aisle the service has made for her, a basket of golden brown beer-battered onion rings and a cup of honey dijon mustard in her outstretched arms. she sets them on the sacrificial altar and steps back as the dragon emerges from her cave and bends her nose down to sniff at them
everyone watches with bated breath as she gently picks one up and eats it. as she roars her approval, the mountain ledge explodes into cheering and applause
as everyone is leaving, she holds up a claw, and everyone falls silent again. she says it might be silly but she was going to watch a movie and if anyone wanted to come they're welcome to watch the movie and maybe play some board games with her? about half the congregation volunteers immediately
it's definitely an unorthodox request but the dragon gets what the dragon wants

that post that's like "if Hamlet and Othello swapped plays, their tragedies would've been avoided" except it's for Andy Weir protagonists
Mark Watney would've been banging on Stratt's door demanding he be tested for the Hail Mary mission, resume in hand before she had time to finish her first speech on the matter
Rocky and Ryland Grace working together would get off of Mars before NASA even realized Grace was alive, Grace would just roll up like "oh hey guys! look! I made a friend, he gave me a ride home!"
the Martian vs project Hail Mary is so funny because you’ve got one where they’re very slowly making a spaceship to bring a guy home and another one where they make a spaceship really fast to send a guy into space forever
*Exasperated sigh*
Yes, I'm here.
I'm queer.
Now be quiet, I'm counting stitches
Forgot to reblog this for Pride Month because I was too busy counting stitches
Oh, is it that time of year again?
like to charge, reblog to cast.
