You can replace [ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY] with [SCROLLING] but watch out. This sucks bad 👍
Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:
1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!
2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.
3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)
hmmm, this seems to be some kind of curse breaking spell… be free ye reader

Are you an aspiring math major, but don't know what your field of study should be?
@algebraic-dumbass had the idea to make a flow chart of math sub-fields, so perhaps this will help any future mathematicians decide what to study!
Solar punk action week!
Tomorrow we drive out to a farm that is replacing its raspberries with a different crop, and offered the raspberry bushes for free to anyone who would take the trouble of digging them up. We are planning to adopt twelve.
To prep, we got big cheap plastic from Lowe’s that were intended as laundry tubs. They are a third of the price and twice the capacity of the ‘official’ plant pots. Drilled big drainage holes in the bottom, lined the bottom with water-permeable agricultural plastic and a layer of burlap for strength, then filled partway with soil.
Once the raspberries are moved to their beds, these tubs will be re-used for growing potatoes.
Tomorrow we get up early and zoom over to the farm as fast as possible, because a lot of people are interested and it’s going to be first-come, first-serve.
I’m also planning to attempt to propagate one of the raspberry varieties we planted last year- the Lathams, which had by far the best flavor and hardiest growth. No promises that it will work, but since I have to prune this week anyway I’m going to try getting canes to strike with a dusting of rooting hormone powder.
must be awkward to live in the kingdom hearts universe and have a name with an X in it. introduce yourself like hey guys what's up my name's alexis :) and everyone kind of sucks their teeth and looks at each other uncomfortably whispering oh umm is she... you know... *mimes stabbing their own heart out*

The Louisiana Massacre of 1868 Full Video
Reconstruction or Redistruction. It is the year 1868, and the first Presidential election since Lincoln was underway. The former Confederate Rebels had a chip on their shoulders, as their former property picked up arms and fought to secure their Emancipation.
During reconstruction, The former Rebels created the KKK terrorist organization. Because the former Rebels had made no allegiance to never raise up arms to former slaves. A series of massacres began taking place all over America.
The largest one took place in Opelousas, Louisiana in September 1868. It is estimated that over 300 people were killed. All of them Unionists, and most of them former slaves.
November 7th marks the anniversary of the october revolution which resulted in the hardest painting ever made

“[They]Extinguish the human with work… why? Stealing the life itself from the human - I ask again, Why?! Our owner - I lost my life at Nefedov’s factory - our owner gifted one songstress a golden hygiene set, even a gold champer pot! In this chamber pot is my force, my life itself. This is for what it was needed - a person killed me with work to satiate his lover with my blood - he bought a golden chamber potty with my blood!”

i feel like another transmisogynistic element of discourse around femboy/trap/otokonoko/etc characters that goes under discussed. take the screenshotted tweet in this post.
the original tweet, the "which seat on the plane would you take" meme format and the characters are, some explicit trans women, characters who present as women and hate their maleness but are said to be boys in the text, transmisogynistic jokes, and venti genshin impact, who is like small and has braids. Mostly all depictions or abstractions of transfemininity . this obviously made to appeal to the transmisogynistic fetishization that makes most of these characters are popular as they are. this is the most discussed element of the transmisogyny present in common attitudes towards "femboys."
the quote tweet is a trans man saying these characters are the type of man he wants to be. this is the common transmasculine version of the above. transfemininity becomes a type of aspirational manhood to people who do this. its frustratingly less disussed (in part because its less common) but more pernicious as a result. they wrap their transmisogyny into their identity, so criticism of that transmisogyny is taken as "invalidation" of their identity.
But there are other qrts and replies, and in them you can find a third pattern. less often than the first, but more than the second, you will find people expressing a desire to enact violence on the depictions and abstractions of transfemininity. and not sexual violence, like some of the fantasies you might find the first crowd doing. its a lot of "i would kill all of them." some of that can be chalked up to regular perfmorative disgust of someone ashamed of their attraction to transfemininity, but you can even find people who style themselves as progressives doing it. the association of these characters with fetishization has allowed people who do not fetishize trans women but still hate trans women to disguise that hate as being against the fetishization.
so much talk about the transmisogyny with these types of characters is focused on the transmisogynistic way of liking them, but so much of the dislike is just as transmisogynistic.
"i want to fuck effeminate boys you can treat like women" and "i want to kill effeminate boys you can treat like women" arent really that different
this is why you cant discuss anything about these characters or the trends surrounding them with anyone other than trans women. even the people who dont fetishize them or deny their transfemininity still use them as receptacle for their brand of transmisogyny
as far as I can tell the "ultra-processed food" concept is basically vitalism. the idea is that food has a natural state which is good for you, and if it stops looking like it's natural, it loses its vital essence and becomes bad for you. processing is not a coherent nutritional concept. it covers a hundred things with noninterchangeable effects on the food. it isn't anything. if you want to talk about anti-caking agents you have to talk about anti-caking agents because emulsifiers are not the same substances.
also the rubric of "don't eat things with ingredients you don't recognise / can't pronounce" is just the old idea that ignorance is the state of grace. innocent children of nature unpolluted by knowledge or machinery will eat the innocent fruit of nature and they will be happy and good. we've been here before.
God thank you this shit drives me nuts and I don't understand how it's the one kind of woo my otherwise very skeptical mother has got sucked into.
Like, sure, there's maybe something to be said about junk food companies having an incentive to make their food taste good via liberal application of salt, fat and sugar without telling you about it (though for anyone who thinks that's a "processed food industry" thing I have bad news for you about restaurants) and possibly even for "the way our food is made, transported to us and expected to be used necessitates the addition of preservative and other anti-spoliage ingredients that would not otherwise be necessary and we should be aware of the dependency of our food supply chains on these additives" but none of that is even what this "Ultra-processed food" thing is, it really genuinely seems like the idea is "The act of transforming a food into a different kind of food removes a bit of its magic soul and if you do this more than about twice the result is essentially nutritionally worthless and full of moral badness substance" and it's like mate what the genuine fuck are you talking about. It frustrates me so much because it's so obviously bullshit but there are so many otherwise intelligent people who seem to have been sucked in by it because it's science-flavour bollocks instead of crystal healing flavour.
I'm an ignorant munchkin; reading this hasn't left me with a firmer grasp of how nutrition works and how I can make better choices. Where can people go for credible, reliable information?
Honestly, it's difficult because a lot of the institutions that are supposed to give us reliable information have bought into the bullshit idea that being thinner is healthier (it's not, there's no evidence for it) and that we can control our weight through what we eat (also no evidence for it).
There are a couple of things which do seem to be pretty consistently true. I'm going to list them below but first: Remember to be kind to yourself and to chill out and enjoy food. We are on this earth to enjoy being alive and food is one of the ways through which we do that. Joy is healthy. Stress is very unhealthy. See 'health advice' as things that can give you a little boost, not as a strict code to control your life.
So here are a couple of basics:
Alcohol and nicotine are bad for you. Reducing or quitting drinking and smoking are some of the biggest ways that most people can improve their health.
Fruits and vegetables are good for you. It doesn't matter if they've been processed, frozen, canned, massed or if they're on a pizza or covered in salad dressing. They're all still good for you.
Variety is good for you. Most foods have some of the nutrients that you need but no foods have all of them.
There are no bad foods or bad ingredients (except alcohol and nicotine). Our bodies need calories, fats, carbs, salt and sugar. We need all of it. It is possible to have too much of some ingredients. Most people would be healthier if they ate (and drank) less salt and sugar. But having some sweets and fries and ice cream occasionally is all perfectly fine.
Food safety is essential. Keep your kitchen clean, cook food thoroughly and avoid bullshit like 'raw milk'. Save leftovers in the fridge for a day or in the freezer for a month. Do not eat pasta, rice or potatoes that have been left unrefrigerated for multiple hours. Regularly clean your water bottle and food containers.
These basics are really enough for most people. If you have high cholesterol or if a lot of people in your family have problems with their heart, then here are two more things, they are a little bit more complicated but still quite easy once you get used to them:
Whole grains are healthier than refined grains because there's extra good nutrients in it. You can usually tell which is which by the color: darker breads, pastas and rice are more likely to have whole grains, while white bread, white rice and white pasta has refined grains. It is not unhealthy to have white bread, white rice and white pasta. It's just even better to frequently go for the whole grain option.
Unsaturated fats are healthier than saturated fats. Unsaturated fats are things like fish, vegetable oil, peanut butter, avocado. Saturated fats are meats, butter, crisps. Fried foods are also less healthy, even if they're fried in vegetable oil. It is not unhealthy to have some meat, butter, crisps or fried foods in moderation. It's just better to frequently go for the unsaturated fats.
Things you DON'T need to do:
Don't count calories. It's very stressful, often causes disordered eating and there's no evidence that it's good for your weight and there's no evidence that a low weight is healthy.
Don't go on diets. They don't work and they're often unhealthy.
Don't worry about protein. Almost everybody who isn't an athlete gets enough protein just by eating whatever they like.
Don't worry about hydration or '2 liters of water per day'. You don't need it. Drinking when you're thirsty works fine. Try not to drink a lot of stuff with a lot of sugar in it.
Don't worry about carbs. They're not bad for you at all.
Don't waste money on special 'health foods', they're almost all bullshit and you don't need them.
Don't worry about 'ultra-processed foods'. It's not a thing.
If you hate someone enough to start documenting everything they do online, then you need to log off. If you cannot open your social media without thinking about the person you hate, then you need to log off. If you feel compelled to insert yourself and your hatred in every mention of that person, no matter how brief, then you need to log off. If your entire online identity revolves around hating someone and sharing posts from other people about how much they hate them, then you need to log off.
"But it's totally justified! Look at what they're doing!" is the mindset of every single stalker. Your reasons don't matter. It's stalking, and it's wrong. This goes double for any marginalized person, especially trans people.
It is not impossible for the FBI to do what has been claimed. It is still irresponsible to spread panic among marginalized people through ru
