If you’re happy about Michael “sounding gayer” please PLEASE explain to me why.

Putting your voice up five octaves and singing in a fake voice doesn’t make a character gay, it makes them a stereotype. How about instead of making Michael sound gay we can just let him… be gay? Talk about a boy he likes? And let that be that?

The stereotype of the “effeminate gay man” is the source of so much hate and discourse that spreads back centuries. Centuries of hating gay men because that take on the role of a woman. This are expected to act as such, in the “female role.” And it sucks that they essentially changed michaels character just to add it. And George Salazar, the man I would die for, is singing in a fake voice that holds nowhere near the amount of power he had when using his REAL voice.

I’m usually someone who is all for moving on when things change. Losing Will Conelly was sad but I was excited to see Will Rolands performance and interpretation. The changes in the songs? Some of them are really good! New Jenna? God strike me down before I kill the first person I see badmouthing her. She’s a goddess.

But the changes like Michael make me physically upset. It wasn’t nessecary, and it isn’t helpful. In only perpetrated a stereotype that gay people are ONLY there for comedic relief and to be “player two.” That’s a big part of Michaels character; it has nothing to do with his sexuality.

Michael. Is. Not. His. Sexuality.

He’s so much more than that. I hate seeing a character that got me through my first year of high school reduced to a gbf.
