YOUR SHAKY HANDS SMOOTHED over the fabric of your dress, the feeling of people wall to wall in the ballroom suffocating.
You only hoped that nobody would be looking at you, as you huddled in the corner with your expensive champagne.
You stood by the window, the cool October breeze brushing against your face.
Your family was of new money rather than old.
And as the eldest daughter of your families court, to allow your family to begin to rise in the Sacred 28’s ranks…
It was vital that you get married eventually.
Your mother could only hope that "eventually" meant sooner rather than later.
You on the other-hand; could definitely disagree.
Though seeing as men were vying for your courtship, it didn't seem you were getting your way.
You simply weren’t interested in settling down yet.
Unbeknownst to you— across the ballroom there was a boy completely and unashamedly staring you down.
The first time Sirius laid his eyes on you, he knew he needed to know who you were.
“Who is she?” Sirius questioned, turning to his brother.
“She?” Regulus repeated, following Sirius’ eye-line towards this ‘She’ his brother was so curious about.
“I— don’t know.” Regulus’ brow furrowed, even though he was reserved— he still knew nearly everyone who attended the infamous Black Family galas.
So, Sirius ended up asking all sorts of guests about your origins and where you came from.
THE NEXT SACRED 28 EVENT occurred during the winter time.
That meant 64 days of Sirius dreaming about this someone he didn’t know.
Sirius was stood by his baby brother as he spotted you once more, and his heartbeat certainly sped up.
Sirius shook Regulus’ shoulders lightly, much to his chagrin.
“What is your problem?” Regulus berated quietly, as Sirius pointed.
“She lives in daydreams with me.” Sirius explained.
“…She?” Regulus questioned once more.
“She’s the first one that I see.” Sirius stated.
“And you don’t know why?” Regulus guessed.
“I don’t know who she is.” Sirius exclaimed, his hands meeting his temples.
“Go find out, then.” Regulus mused, giving his brother a soft nudge in the right direction.
YOU OBSERVED THE CROWD OF GUESTS, until you noticed that a raven-haired boy was making his way towards you.
Towards you? or just in your general vicinity.
“Excuse me, Ma’am?” A voice asked, as you looked up to see that same boy.
“Y— Yes?” You choked, never had you ever been spoken too by such a high-profile heir.
“Care to join me for a walk in the courtyard? It’s beautiful at night.” He suggested, taking your arm once you carefully nodded.
He was right, the dim light from the lamps made the gardens look nearly ethereal at night.
You strolled together quietly, as he seemed to be building up the courage to speak.
“May I ask your name, M’lady?”
“Y/N, Y/N L/N.” You introduced yourself politely.
“Beautiful name.” Sirius kissed your hand gently, his eyes locked onto yours.
“Thank you, and yours?" Though it didn't take a genius to know who he was.
He was Sirius Black, everyone knew that.
Perhaps it was his raven-black hair, or his electric personality and mischievous smile.
All you could think about was the fact that he was speaking to you, the nobody.
"Don't take this the wrong way, my dear. But I have noticed you at these galas and events." He started, as you nearly tripped from his words.
"You were such a mystery to me, and I don't like mysteries." He added.
"Your immense beauty drew me in, though now, I seem to be drawn in by your sweet personality and disposition." His lithe hand caressed your shoulder faintly, anxiously awaiting your response.
“You don’t know me?” You stuttered out, face flushed pink.
“I like to get to know you.” He took your hands, the look in his ocean eyes nearly hypnotizing.
“If you would allow me too.” Say what you will about Sirius Black, but he was immensely cordial.
“Are you sure people would accept this? I’m not of high-respect like your family.” You countered, completely trying to sabotage yourself.
“Frankly, I don’t care what they think.” He shrugged, his hand coming up to cup your cheek.”
“And even if I did, I would still be absolutely captivated by you.” He noted, and your gaze felt impossible to tear away from his.
“I would like to get to know you too, Sirius.” You answered, his words utterly kind and flustering.
“I promise to treat you with immense care and appreciation, darling.”
