hi, i'm miel (mee-ELLE)! Follows and likes from @whereisthatfrogomine. my messages and comments are broken on this blog :( aroace, all pronouns. my ao3 :) #miel writes #miel.118dailydrabble
I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
ngl I'm a little scared about that Rowling transphobia post I made recently getting notes because the last time I had a semi-popular post about her a bunch of TERFs falsely reported me and I got a message from staff saying I was breaking rules by making death threats* and if I continued I would be terminated. And honestly I feel like if that were to happen today they would skip right to the termination so... if I suddenly disappear just know that's probably why.
*to be clear: the post in question could not have been more obviously an exaggerated joke if I tried. It was along the lines of "I hope JKR gets run over by a giant bowling ball" or something like that, I forget exactly
i really thought the point of "being lgbt+ doesn't absolve you of racism as a white person" was that white people arent absolved of racism by being marginalized but it really seems like people think other marginalizations make it okay. no being disabled doesn't do it. no being poor doesnt do it. we need to fight against racism actively no matter what.
something i actually just realized on call w some friends recently is how crazey it is that your online friends are as many as thousands of feet above or below u right now. like if you teleported to their location without changing your height above sea level, well your fucked in some way basically
Below the cut is a floor plan I put together based on what we've seen so far of Buck's new house. Some of it is guesswork since we haven't seen the whole thing yet. Please bear with me.
EDIT 11/18/25
Y'ALL I found the house!! @spacetimeconundrum added tags that said this:
Which inspired me open google maps to try to find the place and there it was, right by the Disney Studio lots!
So now that I know what the house looks like from the outside, I can more confidently say that this is the floor plan. Perhaps there is a second bedroom and we just havenāt seen it yet. Until we do, Iām keeping things as is. Don't look at the proportions too hard. I didn't go to school for architecture!
Now I have to start with the worst part of this whole house, the dining room. I realized way too late that both walls were angled, which really inconvenienced me let me tell you. If things at the bottom look weird NO THEY DON'T. What's going on with that alcove's angles? Who knows!
UPDATE The room off the dining room that I previously thought was enclosed looks like it actually connects through to the front hallway (thanks @buckbuckg0ose). Look at the lighting off the chair and the picture on the wall, there's light coming from the direction of the front door. On the opposite side there's a door that leads to a garage.
His entryway is another headache, so don't look too hard at it. There's a doorway behind the door, which I once again realized late into this process. His house is so weird okay!
The little foyer/entryway area opens to the living room. He has a new couch!
Kitchen is around around the corner from the living room. You pass by a nook with some shelves where Buck keeps books, pictures and knick knacks. Next to it is a laundry room and a closet/pantry.
His bedroom is at the end of the hallway in the front of the house. It has double doors that lead to the patio and possibly a door that leads to the front yard? I'm not too sure about whatever is happening there. He has a window on each side of his bed. I'm assuming the room with the window next door is the bathroom. Oh and he has a HOT TUB.
His patio runs along the entirety of the back of the house. We all now know that those buildings across the street are the Disney lots, but for the sake of 911 canon, let's just say it's a factory or warehouse.
Well that's it for now! I'll update as we see more. :)
In case this helps, this is a working plan of Buck's house I posted on my twt:
I think the exterior is mostly to scale based on maps and street view. The interior is getting there, the only things that are still really unclear are the bathroom and adjecent room cause we haven't fully seen them yet. A few people suggested switching them but based on what we can see in the episodes I don't think that's possible?
The small louvre door off the dining room towards the bathroom is probably a closet as op showed above, but until we see the bathroom I haven't added it yet.
Also, as far as I can tell, the house is only one bedroom as the Zillow listing suggests unless Disney have converted the garage since they bought it in 1995 (personally though I am headcanoning that Buck has a sofa bed in the room next to his).
iām going to be really honest with you guys i think the tendency to read the absolute worst possible intentions into every action you donāt agree with is getting too automatic and itās eating you from the inside out
Listen I get it but you CANNOT use "sensory nightmare" as an excuse to avoid essential things. You HAVE to find a way to make it work, such as finding effective alternatives. But you can't just avoid it.
You need to eat some vegetables in your diet or you will become a lich.
You have to wear a life jacket or you will literally drown and die.
You need to be able to exist in public spaces with children.
i do think we should normalise being like. platonically enamoured with someone. perhaps i love and admire you dearly and there's nothing romantic about it
This is a long read, but worth it. Some takeaways:
-Donāt use ābuy now pay later.ā The fine print isnāt what it seems.
-The fine print on medical financing, store credit cards, and contactless payment is also not what it seems.
-Payday loans are still predatory, even when offered by your employer
-Rewards programs are an income stream for the companies that run them. The points systems are manipulated so that the house always wins. They depend on people leaving money in rewards accounts and not in interest-bearing traditional bank accounts.
-Electronic payment apps like VenMo are not banks. You donāt earn interest. Your money is not protected.
-Your financial information is not private if your money is not kept in a regulated bank.
-None of this is regulated by the FDIC. Your money is not protected if it is held by a non-bank doing banking business. Our economy is not protected from the collapse of financial institutions that are not banks.
-The Biden administration was making progress in increasing accountability for non-banks operating as predatory financial services providers. The current administration is reversing those protections to favor corporations.
Ā AĀ third ofĀ younger AmericansĀ hold theirĀ savingsĀ on nonbank tech platforms like Venmo
PEOPLE! DO NOT LEAVE YOUR MONEY IN VENMO OR APPLE PAY OR ANY OF THIS SHIT. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GO FIND A REAL BANK OR A CREDIT UNION.
If Venmo were to close tomorrow all your money would vanish. There's no insurance or guarantee on any of these things. I know banks aren't great but legit banks will have the "FDIC insured" logo on their doors and websites, which means if my bank goes under tomorrow I still get my money back. Also I guarantee you there is a credit union somewhere in your town, go find it.
You can leave some money in Venmo or Apple pay or whatever, but NOT ALL OF IT for the love of God.
No, it's misleading. Go to Green Dot's T&Cs, search for "FDIC," and you'll come across this:
your funds are insured up to $250,000 by the FDIC in the event Green Dot Bank fails
In the event Green Dot Bank fails. Meaning the only time your money is protected is if Green Dot goes under. Not if Apple goes under (unlikely, granted). Or if Apple changes its terms (entirely possible). Or if you got scammed. Or if Apple freezes your account because they think you're the one scamming. Or any of the other countless mishaps your money could suffer. Green Dot is insured, but Apple Cash is not.
This is the disclaimer (highlighted) you see before you set up Apple Cash:
As someone who's worked in the industry for a decade now, here's a quick rundown (US specific,) of what your schools and parents didn't teach you:
For the love of god get an account at a federally insured institution. Look for FDIC (banks) or NCUA (credit unions) insured and regulated financial institution. They are legally required to have this status publicly available and accessible so it's not hard to find.
The FDIC and/or NCUA will insure your accounts up to $250,000 PER AUTHORIZED SIGNER and per account type. These are factors to max your coverage to even higher than $250k but the key point is that if something happens to your bank or accounts there, that first $250k of your money is secured anyway.
Banks are for profit. Credit Unions are exactly what it sounds like: unions. They are not for profit and member owned.
Bigger institutions have more money and resources at their disposal; they have the fancier apps, 24/7 phone banking and more locations. But watch out! They are no different than any other large corporation you've heard of when it comes to ethics. Smaller institutions have more limitations, and lesser size is not an indicator of morality, but it's something to consider when choosing where to keep your money.
These institutions, regardless of what kind you choose, will offer interest bearing accounts. Money Market Savings and Time Accounts (also called Certificates of Deposit,) are popular choices to put the money you already have to work for you. You can earn money just for having your money in an interest bearing account type.
All financial institutions charge fees of one sort or another. They are offering products and services, after all. Nothing is free! They will also disclose options to avoid paying those fees, usually based around meeting specific criteria such as minimum balances or direct deposits.
Take this information and do your own research so that you can make an informed decision. Now you know what to look for! Don't be taken advantage of!
That ācomment on your a03 workā email hits like a line of cocaine every time. unmatched dopamine increase. shoutout to everyone who leaves a comment on fics. you deserve the world
I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.
